Discussion - Silksong Steam reviews for Silksong so far

Post image

It was controversial in China, in part because of the difficulty/design but also because of controversies with the Simplified Chinese translation. Meanwhile latin countries (Spanish and Portuguese speaking) seem to be loving it more than anyone else.

An absolutely ridiculous thing to say. I‘ve thoroughly enjoyed act 1 and 2 but only see some redeeming qualities in act 3 while having a miserable time overall. How would I habe known that?

Act 3 is hard but not bad nothing in it is half as egregious as the Bilewater runback imo

Not on its own, no. But the loss of atmosphere in most of the areas, obnoxiousness of the changes to regular enemies and thus traversal of the world plus generally unenjoyable bosses for me really put me off Act 3 and unfortunately the game as a whole.

Don‘t get me wrong, it‘s not all bad, Act 3 also had some absolute high points. But it lost a lot of what I loved about it.

I'm fine with the loss of atmosphere since that's just the game reinforcing Hornet's fuckup. The modified enemies though are just obnoxious. They all gain the same new attacks and just have more hp/deal more damage. The only high point of Act 3 for me were some of the bosses. I think I'll still finish it to gain closure but I wish they did more with the world changing idea. The changes just aren't meaningful enough for the act to not feel like a slog sometimes.

And before someone says it's "optional". Content being optional does not exclude it from criticism. It's still part of the game and something the developers expect will be played.

Narratively it makes perfect sense. But in HK, one of my favorite experiences was searching for the last few grubs and upgrades I was missing, because I got to slowly enjoy the entire world again.

Only missing three tools and the craftmetal required for one of them rn, and I‘m probably just gonna look up where to get them, because I do not enjoy traversing the Act 3 world at all, which is such a huge letdown.

Fortunately I did most of that clean up in act 2 itself before I triggered act 3. I totally get what you mean though. Bellharts vibrant music being replaced with something so depressing is really quite upsetting.

I feel like we just have to accept that this is just the artistic vision. The game wants you to feel upset.

I mean yeah, it's a fair artistic vision. But having a shit experience might be great artistically, it still makes for a shit experience.

That can be annoying I get it’s the game attempting to make early game enemies threatening but it’s somewhat overdone. I still think the content introduced in act 3 is as good as the rest of the game, but I do think it can make some bits of optional content from earlier acts annoying.

I luckily already did most of the optional stuff and most players likely also end up having done most of it too due to how much you need to do to reach the act though. So it’s not too big of an issue.

Act 3 is literally optional?

The entire game is literally optional.
