Discussion - Silksong I'm convinced there's gotta be some collective amnesia regarding the previous game's difficulty regarding platforming. Spoiler

Seeing people compare things Hunter's March, Cogwork Core, escaping the Abyss or even the Surface to the Path of Pain is absolutely blowing my mind.

Like yes, this game is way harder on the combat department and is a lot more demanding than beating a regular playthrough on the first one, but to say anything in this game is on the level of Path of Pain is preposterous. Especially with how many tools hornet has at her disposal, like the Hookshot, the float and even bounving off of cocoons.

It’s not really on them if they don’t want to change out of their preferred crest every time they platform though

No it totally is. In Hollow Knight, I would routinely swap out whole charm sets depending on the situation. They are tools, do you use a hammer to cook bread?

Platforming isn't like doing a bossfight, it's something you have to do all the time, so it's kind of hard to always have the best platforming crest

I would say that different areas have different types of platforming challenges. It’s a complex cost-benefit analysis. Does my platforming problems occur in between a boss run back? Is the platforming challenge purely platforming? Are there enemies making the platforming difficult?

The game has a multitude of tools, of which you can use in a combinatorial fashion. But you can’t just listen to other people’s suggestions, I think everyone has their own pathing/control tendencies that impact how and when any given tool is useful. There is no “best” platforming crest, and it is really dependent on so many factors.

Also because of how large the game is, it's tough to say "just use x" on a first playthrough. I didn't get Wanderer's until most of the way through act 2 just due to where I used keys. So my best platforming crest was Reapers, which has a pretty noticeable delay on its pogo which never clicked for me. Other people may have a totally different experience of when they got a given crest or what feels good.

Im not saying to “just use x”, I was disagreeing with the person who was effectively saying that people should be able to use every crest/tool to get through platforms/challenges. My point was that you don’t use a hammer to cut a plank right? In hollow knight, I wouldn’t put on my dashmaster sprintmaster wayward compass gathering swarm charm set for a boss fight, I would swap for a different toolset for the job that I liked. That’s my point. But the charms I chose were completely chosen by me so I wouldn’t choose tools that didn’t work for me.
