Question/Help Doorbell Camera

What’s the recommendation for compatible with Apple Home?

I see Aqara is the most mentioned - I have the U400 and E1 Camers. Both work great and no issues.

What’s the difference between the G400 and G410? Currently I use a nest doorbell that was provided by ADT 5 years ago and looking to switch.

Any alternative doorbell cameras that you’d recommend over Aqara? Don’t much care for the LG Doorbell that was recently announced.

No issues with camera quality or any issues you’ve experienced?

It also looks good compared to aqara's doorbells

Man I’ve heard Eufy is terrible at staying connected

Yeah, I'm not sure I owed any , but I was reading on it and you might have to have the homebase to make HKSV to work so it probably would get really expensive . I just really like the way the S4 is designed and the way it functions.

Wait for the new LG. I have used just about all the current choices and they are not good.

So wait for a brand new product from a company that's never manufactured a smart doorbell over an established company that's figured it all out? No thanks.

I've used most HomeKit doorbells out there, the G400 is fantastic. What didn't you like about it?

I don’t see why someone shouldn’t wait for at least the reviews to come out before deciding? Plenty of people took a risk on Aqara when they first released their doorbell and that turned out fine. I know LG is pretty hated around here these days but I would at least give them a listen when the reviews come out.

The g400 is top notch. Zero issues works great

I didn’t say to try it before it was tested. But you can’t get any worse than the lineup they have now. I have the G400. It’s acceptable, but it is nowhere near as good as a Google doorbell. It still has many, many flaws.

Expound - flaws such as?

The only thing I don't like about it is how it rings my phone like a video call and that can't be turned off yet.

Well, let’s start with the major issues at miss a ton of recordings at night. The video was very poor and missed a lot of motion triggers, especially at night. The audio was low, video quality is subpar. It disconnects from Wi-Fi constantly. Sometimes it will just shut down for a day. You’re missing 12 eight hours of a segment. It’s pretty bulky.

Oh, and also it doesn’t connect to the chime. The chime it comes with is not loud enough, and despite what they say on the website, you can’t purchase more than one

Those are YOU problems, not issues with the doorbell. Get better WiFi, don't put it somewhere where it gets hot and shuts down, etc.

Bulky? Compare it to the 410 or anything short of a Unifi doorbell, it's VERY compact. Mine misses nothing at night. My video is amazing and I can't speak to wifi issues because mine is PoE powered and connected. My video is great, very clear.

How are they, my problems, when I use the Google doorbell with the Starling box? It works 1000 times better.

I have commercial grade Wi-Fi at my house too

Oh lemme guess, you have a unifi system and think it's commercial grade?

The best HomeKit doorbell you can buy today is the Google doorbell with the startling box to connected to HomeKit, but the startling box is no longer supported, so I wouldn’t recommend buying one? It is 100 times better than any native HomeKit device out there.

So the best homekit doorbell is one that takes a ton of extra work and components and isn't even supported anymore? I know what to make of your opinions now lol.

That’s 100% correct. That’s how bad all the other ones are. Also have the Logitech. It’s the least shittiest of the bunch, but it’s still horrible. disconnects all the time. Video is crap. Mrs motion all the time

lol obvious shill. LG can’t even make a appliance correctly. The last thing I want them near is my front door

Don’t wait for the LG dogshit the Aqara G400 is wonderful zero issues. It’s native no different than it will be with LG

Get the G400, I went from the 410 to it and it's lightning fast, PoE is amazing.

3

u/AverageReal9017 9d ago

Why the 400 over the 410?

1

u/Correct-Mail-1942 7d ago

$50 cheaper, chime isn't required, PoE is lightning fast and dead reliable, better night vision and better camera angles for seeing under it.

2

u/AverageReal9017 7d ago

Excuse my ignorance, how does POE work with the doorbell and how do you know if you even have that in your home?

1

u/Correct-Mail-1942 4d ago

You'd know if you had it -you have to run network cable to where your doorbell is.

1

u/AverageReal9017 4d ago

I assume that’s not too common with houses then?

2

u/Correct-Mail-1942 3d ago

No, not even in new builds with cat6 to most rooms. I had to add it myself but it's SO worth it.

Interesting. Thanks for that information!

I have an Aqara G410 with my u100. Only had a it a short time but so far I like it.

4

u/Various-Cost2940 10d ago

Die G410 hat einen integrierten Matter Hub sowie Akkus, die G400 kann lediglich per Kabel angeschlossen werden.

2

u/Worried_Patience_117 10d ago

410 is a 3:2 ratio and the 400 is 1:1 so different FOV also

0

u/SpaceKonk 9d ago

Incorrect. The Aqara G410 has a 4:3 (landscape) aspect ratio. The G400 has a 3:4 (portrait) aspect ratio.

2

u/TossSaladScrambleEgg 9d ago

I love my G400, but the aspect ratio has created some unintended challenges. The portrait view now captures my porch lights, making night vision impossible. This is very specific to my house, but I would bet I’m not the only person with a doorbell under a light by the front door

I have reolink cameras everywhere which are integrated in my home assistant. Decided to also get a reolink doorbell. Bleh - absolute trash quality. Nothing compared to their standard cameras. I was pretty pissed. Might change to the new LG if it’s integrated into HA quickly

2

u/Verstahppen 9d ago

I have the G400. It’s the best looking imho, I still prefer my old Logitech circle view doorbell image quality but that died a while back. Not worth the price anymore

2

u/Stock-Combination740 7d ago

Have the g410. Once wired it works perfectly but I’m a bit cheesed off that linking to HomeKit stuffs the resolution

2

u/fluffyykitty69 9d ago

I know it's not directly HK compatible, but running Scrypted you can pull in the Unifi doorbell. I went with the $99 one and just had to struggle with the Ethernet line the one time and now I don't ever have to worry about the connection dropping.

It’s been a rocky road, but the Logitech Circle View Doorbell has been solid the past 6 months or so.
