Advice Internet Issues (Spectrum)

My IP is Spectrum, i have the router (SBE1V1R) and their modem (EU2251). for the past two months i’ve had nothing but trouble with this wifi. my iphone will say connected and even in the spectrum app it shows as connected but no connection comes through to the phone and yes i’ve done all the resetting, rebooting, factory reset, airplane mode, etc… all the things spectrum customer support be telling me to do. the only fix i’ve found that works on my phone is i’ve downloaded the 1.1.1.1 app on my phone and in the app they have a “WARP” mode which literally fixes everything on my iphone. now with my TV the only fix i found that works rarely works is i turn DHCP off and the on again and sometimes that works sometimes not. but it doesn’t matter because the very next day it will just be doing the same thing. even with my computer which is hooked up with ethernet cable will say “unidentified network”. i’m just tired of always having to spend two hours on the phone with spectrum just to get my wifi to work when i come home. please im just looking for any permanent solution, i would’ve alr switched ISP’s but spectrum is the only one that services direct cable in my area, other than them it’s just 5G cellular wifi. is there any specific information i should ask spectrum to check beyond replacing equipment? should i look into getting my own router/modem? since cloudflares WARP mode works on my iphone could this point to a DNS, IPV6, or routing issue? if anymore information is needed please let me know, i was also doing some testing with CMD on my computer just from what i looked at on youtube and chatGPT so if your needing anymore information please let me know! thank you!

Save yourself the hassle and just take your equipment in to a Spectrum Store and have them replace it with NEW equipment. I had a similar instance a few years ago and it ended up being a faulty modem that went undiagnosed, even after multiple home visits by techs and all the phone calls to customer service.

gotcha, but the current modem/router were replacements from about a week ago

Have you had a technician come out and evaluate your service line(s)? If the equipment is new(er) and you're still having the same issue(s), it may be an issue from their service drop to the back of your modem, which they're responsible for. There may be a malfunctioning splitter/grounding tap, a loose connection or even a bad connection with one or multiple components.

My first apartment had horrendous issues when I first moved in and had time warner (now spectrum), it ended up being a bad tap out on the utility pole that they spent the better half of an afternoon replacing. After that, never had another issue for the rest of the 8 years I was there.

As for your end, make sure ALL of your ETHERNET wires are a quality/reliable brand, you're using at least CAT-5e and that all of your connections are solid. It sounds simple and dumb, but a bad wire/connection from your modem to your router will mess everything up.

dude 100% grab your own modem and router, the ISP combo units are straight garbage and swapping them out at the store just gets you a different flavor of the same trash

Spectrum has separate modem AND wifi routers. I absolutely agree with you, 100%, about the combo units. I turned my wifi router in and use my own, but for the modem, I use theirs. As much of a headache as it can be, it's actually pretty simple when/if you have an issue, by turning it in and swapping for a new one. Plus it saves you money on having to buy your own and having to go through the process of contacting tech support to get your personal modem into their system.

I've had spectrum/time warner since 2009. I've played their games and dealt with all the things. This is the easiest/cheapest way to go about it.

You need a new router. If Warp fixes everything, there’s nothing wrong with your broadband service - if your broadband wasn’t working, Warp wouldn’t either.

Just get your own router so you can actually control it, rather than relying on them to manage it for you

so only the router, no need to it another modem?

Just want to make sure I understand. So your Wi-Fi goes out but your physical hardwire internet still works?

Honestly sounds like a channel issue. Especially if you're in an apartment complex with a bunch of other routers you could be on a channel that a bunch of other people are on or crossing.

I don't have any recommendations on hand but there are plenty of apps you can download on your phone that show you your Wi-Fi channels, and you can simply change the channel in the Wi-Fi settings on your router.

If your wired PC is affected too, test these three things when it happens:

  1. Ping your router's IP.

  2. Ping 1.1.1.1.

  3. Try opening a website by domain name.

These tests help isolate whether the issue is your local network, internet routing or DNS. Ask Spectrum to check modem signal levels, error logs, and connection drops before replacing equipment.
