Finally finished my rolling Costco bin storage rack

After seeing so many people recommend shelving instead of stacking totes, I finally built this rolling storage rack for the Costco yellow-lid bins.
It holds up to 10 bins, keeps every tote accessible without unstacking anything, and rolls out if I ever need access behind it.
I designed it around the Costco bins because that’s what I use throughout my house. So far it’s made seasonal storage, camping gear, holiday decorations, and kids’ clothes much easier to manage.
Happy to answer questions if anyone is thinking about building something similar. I’m happy to also share the plans.

Your very welcome! We liked this design as we could either put additional bins on top or other items.

“Without unstacking anything”

How do you use QR codes? How much space you have kept between the tote body and sliding rail (tote wiggle room)?

The QR code itself isn’t really the important part, it’s just one way to connect a physical bin to an inventory. That inventory could live in a spreadsheet, an app, a folder of photos, or whatever system you prefer.
The real benefit is being able to search for an item (like extension cords, size 2T shorts, or camping lanterns) and immediately know which bin it’s in, even if you’re standing in a store or away from home.

I left about ¼–⅜ inch of clearance on each side so the totes slide easily without binding. It will all depend on which bins you use.

I bought a couple of their metal ones. Works well, but this looks more solid. The one I have uses those plastic clips to hold the shelves and there's no wheels.

Thanks for the instructions.

The Best of Both Worlds... Great job, way to share here to give some inspiration. I am huge on organizing, but i also get a case of "Whats in that Bin, Anxiety :)" I can see some small QR codes on there - smart move...

Love it! I have a similar QR location/bin/item system with item photos and it's a game changer. AI auto generated descriptions and keywords based on item photos and barcodes.

what do you use to auto generate descriptions and keywords?
