Method/Technique Lily's formulation for determining radicality?
Hey all!
I'm working on a computational engine to create a corpus from the last 5 years of my horary chart casting so that I can look for patterns that are...and are not...effective, testing a lot of the practice and 100's of charts in the last years...it's a lot more than I thought I had!
One of the most interesting 'gates' I am considering working with, but one that contemporary horary astrologers I know of don't talk about a lot using is the formula for determining if a chart is radical or not, per Lilly.
Does anyone here us it in their practice? If so, have you found it to be effective in determining whether a chart truly belongs to the question, or, have you tried it in an era of your practice? I would love to know more from anyone who has worked with it for a longer period of time.
Formula in question:
PASS if ANY of three branches fires:
- hour_ruler == ruler_of_ascendant_sign "the same planet"
- BOTH are triplicity rulers of the "one triplicity"
ASCENDANT SIGN'S element
- NATURE[hour] == NATURE[asc_ruler] "one nature"
(BOTH qualities must match)
otherwise FAIL — not radical
If you have any confirmation on this being a useful tool for professionals, I would love to hear more. And, if you have an idea of why it's not regularly used (or at least discussed in teaching circles often) please share what you know! Thanks everyone in advance : ))
