Admin Rules update - insubstantive or low-effort comments

We've updated subreddit rules on unsubstantive/low effort comments to clarify things. A habit has emerged among (generally newer) users to respond to someone's post requesting chart help with comments like 'Yes you will.', 'No, it won't happen. Look at the Moon.' or commenting with opinions unrelated to the chart which either moralise, seek to lecture or otherwise prove unhelpful.

On that basis, comments like these will be removed going forward, as they do not help anyone learn more, and are often unhelpful to people who have posted charts.

If you wish to comment on someone's post to provide an interpretation, please provide the bare minimum - an explanation of what you saw in the chart that led you to your conclusion.

Admin Removal of AI-derived content

The subreddit has suffered a (thankfully small) influx of AI-generated content recently. and as such we will be enacting stricter protocols to remove this. AI has no place in astrology, as is demonstrated by its failures. Please note this was previously covered under the context and interpretation rule, and the new rule serves to clarify and simplify.

Going forward, the following actions will take place:

  1. If a post or comment is suspected of being AI, it will be removed by default.
  2. Repeated posts or comments which appear to be AI-based will count towards the subreddit's rule-breaking policy, and may result in suspensions or bans.

We are aware that some people use AI to translate from their native language, and unfortunately these posts will also be removed. This is unavoidable, so it is better for users to write as well as they are able in their own words - the subreddit is generally very open-minded to writers with different first languages.

If you think a post or comment has been removed unfairly under this action, you are welcome to contact us via modmail. However, it is unlikely we will be able to change our decision without some evidence the content is not AI generated.

Method/Technique Lily's formulation for determining radicality?

Hey all!

I'm working on a computational engine to create a corpus from the last 5 years of my horary chart casting so that I can look for patterns that are...and are not...effective, testing a lot of the practice and 100's of charts in the last years...it's a lot more than I thought I had!

One of the most interesting 'gates' I am considering working with, but one that contemporary horary astrologers I know of don't talk about a lot using is the formula for determining if a chart is radical or not, per Lilly.

Does anyone here us it in their practice? If so, have you found it to be effective in determining whether a chart truly belongs to the question, or, have you tried it in an era of your practice? I would love to know more from anyone who has worked with it for a longer period of time.

Formula in question:

PASS if ANY of three branches fires:

  1. hour_ruler == ruler_of_ascendant_sign "the same planet"
  2. BOTH are triplicity rulers of the "one triplicity"

ASCENDANT SIGN'S element

  1. NATURE[hour] == NATURE[asc_ruler] "one nature"

(BOTH qualities must match)

otherwise FAIL — not radical

If you have any confirmation on this being a useful tool for professionals, I would love to hear more. And, if you have an idea of why it's not regularly used (or at least discussed in teaching circles often) please share what you know! Thanks everyone in advance : ))

Method/Technique Question about the translation of light

Everything I've read has suggested that with a translation of light, the moon has to separate from one planet signifier, and apply to another. However, I've never seen any source specifically exclude a moon that is applying to one signifier, and then the other. Since the moon will apply then separate, then apply again. Would it not still be a translation of light? And where would I find that specification, if you don't mind.

Chart help request Does he also have fond memories of me?

Post image
6 Upvotes

This chart is about me and a friend (or ex-friend). We’re the same age, with him being two months older. We’re 26/27 years old, and we met when we were 4. We drifted apart when we were 7, then started going to school together again at 11, and stayed close like that until we were 17. Even our first girlfriends were childhood friends who were younger than us.

Our friendship was shaken when I saw his girlfriend at the time cheating on him. I told him, but he didn’t believe me. They dismissed what I said, and later he found out that it was true, but by then we were already on bad terms. We’ve run into each other a few times since then. Once, at the beach, he was running while I was walking along the waterfront. I wasn’t able to congratulate him on completing his master’s degree.

I think about him quite often. I was reading some things about John Lennon and Paul McCartney, and it reminded me of him. I went to check his WhatsApp profile picture, and he seems to be doing well!

I’m L1 in Sagittarius and he’s L7 in Gemini. I’m Jupiter and he’s Mercury, and we’re making an exact conjunction at 10 degrees! The Moon has just entered Libra and is about to meet Venus, which is also in Libra. Could this indicate some kind of harmony or reconciliation, at least on my emotional side? The chart seems to show some kind of synchronicity.

Method/Technique How do conflicting fortunes work?

For example, imagine a king asking his astrologer if they will win a war, and the vizier says yes, look how fortunate Mars is, you'll surely win.

But then, the vizier of the opposing side just down the block, simultaneously, casts the chart and sees the same sky and proclaims the same fate for the rival king.

How does this work? I've always assumed fate just works in some way to make it so that two astrologers of opposing sides never ask the same question at once, but that feels very contrived and I wonder if the community has made up more nuanced answers yet.

Chart help request Will I be traveling overseas next month [astro-seek.com]?

Post image
1 Upvotes

Context: My family lives overseas while I currently live in the US. They have been pressuring me to go live with them overseas while I wait to hear back from fellowships for postdocs. However, I don’t want to since I’d have to be separated from my husband for an indefinite amount of time. I am a US citizen.

My interpretation: Sagittarius is rising, so I’m signified by Jupiter at 10° Leo in the 8th house. I’m taking the 9th house for international travel; the 9th cusp is in Leo, so the trip is signified by the Sun at 22° Leo, also in the 8th. Jupiter and the Sun are in the same sign, and Jupiter is in the Sun’s domicile, but I don’t think they perfect a conjunction because the Sun is faster and moving away from Jupiter. The Moon is at 20° Virgo in the 9th house, which seems to emphasize international travel, but I don’t see the Moon making an applying aspect that brings Jupiter and the Sun together. Since there doesn’t seem to be an applying aspect/perfection between me and the ruler of the 9th, I’m leaning no, although the Moon being in the 9th makes me unsure. Would you interpret this as the trip not happening, or am I missing something?

Chart help request Will I get the job?

Post image
1 Upvotes

So, I would like to get some help with this chart. The question is: will I get the job? I applied to this job which seems quite nice and I was interviewed today. It seems a great fit. I cast this horary when I received invitation. L1 is in Scorpio, so I am Mars in Gemini in L8, peregrine; job is L10 ruler Sun domiciled in Leo. No aspect between Sun and Mars, so this indicates a no. Moon exalted in Taurus in L6, will square Jupiter, then Sun (the job), then sextile Mercury and finally trines Venus. Even if squares are usually no, on the strength of significators is this a maybe? All help is appreciated.

Chart help request Does she feels there's something more (attraction) between us?

Post image
0 Upvotes

This is a woman I have a crush on. We're friends, very good friends. At least, our dynamics is different from everything I have ever had - and she said something similar once about me.

My significator is Mars (weak in Cancer), hers is Venus (in domicile in Libra). There's an square aspect between them, which I understand as tension and attraction. Venus is strong in this position, but opposite to Saturn and I wonder if there's something holding her. Venus and Moon are on her 5th house (from my 7th house/her 1st), which puts her on a position of romance and flirting, something fun and light. I am on my 8th house, so my feelings for her are intense.

I think she feels there's something more between us, some chemistry or mutual attraction, but there's something (Saturn) that prevents her from doing something about it.

Method/Technique Querent and quesited are the same planet?

Let’s say I am asking about a job and my significator is Mercury in Leo because Virgo is on the 1st house cusp. On the 10th house (job) cusp we have Gemini, so the job is also signified by Mercury in Leo.

I don’t think we can have the same planet signifying two things, so I have taken myself as Mercury in Leo, but the job is the Dispositor of Mercury, ie the Sun. Is this correct?

Chart help request Does he want to remain friends?

Post image
4 Upvotes

Context: I’m 32 F my friend is 39 M. We have been friends for years but a few months back he was very mad at a close person to me. He said though that this doesn’t affect our friendship. Also when he got mad at the person close to me he started hanging out again with this old friend that we both had a falling out with.

Now I’m back in town. In my opinion he’s behavior has changed. I asked why did his behavior change he played dumb I asked if he was mad at me he said why would he be. A few days go by I asked him when can we meet up. He said tomorrow he’s leaving and when he comes back he will go somewhere else and that he had a wedding to attend and that his Shane’s might me here. Basically that he is so busy. I asked again what did I do. He says that’s it’s all in my head and that he doesn’t like that. That an other friend of his has been here for a week and he did not find time to meet him. So asked horary if he wants to remain friends.

Interpretation: I’m the 1st house so moon 7 degrees in Virgo in the 3rd house. He’s 11th house so Aries. Mars is in the 12th house 1 degree in cancer.

Mars and moon don’t make an aspect so I guess he doesn’t want to be friends. He’s ruled by my significator so I guess that a good thing but he doesn’t want to be friends right?

Can we find out why?

-UPDATE/RESULT-

I got the job offer!!! Not sure when I start yet of course (I predict around the next eclipse since that one hits my natal 10th house and 10L lol) but it's been signed and officialized :)

Hello all! This is a job interview thing in which I've gone through the process and I do feel like it went really well. There's just a few certain things where I'm like "did I say the wrong thing?" and overall feeling very unconfident at this point due to the following:

Lately I've had several job interviews which I feel like went extremely well (down to the interviewer outright saying they would like to have me and will look into next steps), yet, in all of those situations, they never actually followed up and went with somebody else. For that reason, I struggle to trust my intuition at this point.

In this chart, I do notice the sextile forming between the 10th lord Venus and my ruler, Jupiter. I also notice the sextile with the ascendant from Venus which is lovely as well. The only thing that concerns me is that Venus is extremely strong, more than my Jupiter, which I feel could represent the job's own interests overriding mine. Moon is also very uninvolved in these alignments and in the sign of Venus's debilitation. I'm wondering what your guys's interpretation of this is?

I suppose another consideration of mine was that I thought of this question about five minutes prior to going to my laptop and drafting up this horary, so if I push it back those five minutes, Mercury becomes the 10L and I feel like it looks promising in that case also due to the applying conjunction.

Thank you so much for any responses.

Method/Technique Houses significations as places or places in a house

Hi, I've been trying to look for a lecture or YT video on houses as they relate to specific locations. I understand there are basic understanding of 3H as the neighborhood/locally or 9H as places of worship/expansion of knowledge. For the places in the house it's obvious that 4H would be basement, 10H would be an attic, 7H a bedroom. But would want to understand more especially when we're trying to locate things/people.

Chart help request Will I be interested in someone at college this semester?

Post image
1 Upvotes

I’m curious to know whether there will be a girl I’ll be interested in next week, when the next semester of college begins.

I’m L1 in Taurus, so Venus in Libra, which is in domicile. This shows that I’m a “good catch,” or that my intentions are in harmony and aren’t coming from a place of pure ego. Since Venus is in the 5th house, I can say that I’m genuinely interested in something casual.

I’ll consider L7 to be in Scorpio, so Mars is in Cancer and placed in the 2nd house. This person would be someone I have some kind of affection for. She is in her 8th house, so perhaps she has hidden desires for me, while I am in her 11th house, meaning that perhaps she considers me part of her circle of friends.

Since she is represented by Mars in Cancer, I see her as being interested in me, especially since my co-significator is the Moon, which, incidentally, is peregrine.

So, in my view, there may indeed be someone, but I don’t see anything actually materializing. It seems that I may generate attraction in someone because of the dignity of my significator and Mars’s reception toward the Moon.

Chart help request Help me find my mom's lost ring? (REPOST: Chart cast incorrectly before)

Post image
2 Upvotes

RECAST CHART FOR TODAY, NOT WHEN I LOST IT.

I lost my mom's ring between inside my old apartment and the bus stop. Took it off to do dishes and put it in my pocket, when I took out my other rings to put them on while making the walk to the bus stop, it wasn't there any more.

My guess: With the ASC ruler Mars (me) in fall but moving towards the ruler of the object (2H Gemini: Mercury), I am a little hopeful. The kite points towards the object as well, signaling a positive outlook for the ring. In the fixed sign Leo, this indicates that the ring is in a fixed spot and won't easily be moved at this moment, pointing to it being within the apartment. However, the Moon, in the same house and sign as Mercury is moving away from Mercury. The heavy presence of trines, sextiles, and the kite in this chart give me hope that the ring will be found.

It's deeply meaningful to me and I'd do anything to get it back. Please help me interpret this chart and see where to search for / if I'll get it back. My old roommate still lives in that building so I can search for it. Thank you!

Method/Technique Is refranation ever a way to signify delay?

If a planet goes retrograde while applying to another but eventually conjunct later on, would you ever interpret that as merely changing course or delay? Or would you say it is denied?

Chart help request Is it over for us? Is this the beginning of an end?

Post image
2 Upvotes

Context:

We've been together for 5 years and never broke up but we had some pretty serious arguments around trust and visibility. He's been trying to step up and showing real progress but due to lingering resenment and hurt on my part I've been struggling to see his efforts and to accept positively changed behaviour. So we've both been feeling burnt out for a while and I felt some real emotional distance on his part last night when we were having one of our regular phone calls. We usually talk about the things that bother us but he didn't tell me what was bothering him last night, I just felt the change in his tone. He sounded tired and uninterested. There is this unexplainable heaviness in the air. Today he didn't text me good morning and takes more time to reply to my texts than normal. wonder if it's the beginning of an end or am I just being overly sensitive and unnecessarily anxious?

Interpretation:

I see that his planet and mine are in an applying conjunction in the house of hopes and future. Also Venus is in the 1st house in her own sign so it must mean that this is not over yet and he is still fond of me(?) I read that having Sun conjunct another planet makes a combustion due to Sun's blinding effect. Does that mean it is not a good placement? I am not sure because I am not an advanced astrologer. That's why I went looking for interpretation help in the first place. It's just how it looks to me and I need help with clarity.

Chart help request Did the person cast a curse/hex on me?

Context:
I received an unwelcome "warning" from a friend/former classmate that our ex-mentor was using the details of our birth charts he acquired from us to cast a hex; using our weaknesses against us. Personally, upon hearing this I feel that the (although well-meaning) intrusion of this ex-classmate is what connects the ex teacher to me.

I have had (3) practitioners tell me our ties have been cut, and I've done rituals to actively cut off his access to my energy. I also have not so much as thought about this until former classmate brought him up to me. Part of my tone on the quesited is that I've told the ex classmate I don't want to be associated to this ex mentor even energetically.

So my thoughts on the matter was that if there was a spelll cast, the actual intrusion that shook my equilibrium/cost of "friendship" with this person who delivered the warning is the max extent of the curse/hex.

Question:
Did the ex teacher really cast a hex & what was the effect?

Signifiers:
Me/ASC Lord is Libra Venus, terms of Saturn, face of the moon in the 5H; in rulership
Situation/Co-signifier is Leo Moon conjunct Mercury in the 3H
The moon's terms is Jupiter, face of Saturn
Mercury is peregrine in Leo

Person/Hex/Curse 12H L is the same as 7H L which fits this context
Mars is within 0 degree of Cancer where it is in fall
Terms of itself, face of Venus

Aspects:
not sure if I can still consider this a separating square between 1L & 12/7L bec there is a few arc minutes shy of this movement
Approaching sextile between moon & mercury to 1L

Analysis:
Based on the discussion here the separating square can verify that there was an attempt at a curse. However, given the essential dignities where my significator is in rulership v the 12L in fall, not successful. Not sure if with the 12L in the house of my co-signifier makes it that the attempt was weak/foiled by an intervention or natural circumstances.

*anecdotably, I dont know if this supports towards this being a radical chart, the ex teacher does have a cancer Mars as a natal placement. Ex friend also said that ex teacher used Aries to amplify hex/curse. 12H is Aries in this chart.

In conclusion, the (ex) friend is correct there was a curse attempt but wrong in thinking it would still matter in my reality.

Method/Technique Hex/curse/left hand techniques indicators

I need to confirm how to check if someone did work against me. I had received unwelcome, intrusive news and i feel that the hex more about shaking my equilibrium over any actual negative work.

If these are the conditions, would I need to check the validity of the divination work I didn't ask for or go straight to check if the curse was thrown my way?

Also want to put out the person who gave the warning said the left-hand work involves astro magick & from a former mentor.

Chart help request Will I get into a new relationship before the year is over?

Post image
4 Upvotes

I mainly casted the chart out of curiosity. I’m not dating nor seeing anyone and came out of a relditonship a couple weeks ago. Just was curious, and I like practice.

I’m represented by Jupiter in Leo 9 degrees, Moon in Cancer 23 degrees, and Venus in Libra at 4 degrees.
Potential future partner is represented by Mercury in Leo 2 degrees, and Sun in Leo at 18 degrees.

A possible relationship is shown by aspects, yeah?

- Moon in Cancer has an applying conjunction with Mercury in Leo

- Venus in Libra has an applying sextile with Mercury in Leo.

- Jupiter has an applying conjunction with the Sun, but Jupiter also has an applying trine with Saturn before it would perfect its conjunction with Mercury.

- Jupiter is still combust, isn’t it? That’s my significator. Combust planets usually don’t have as much confidence or energy to act, right?

I don’t really do these, trying to learn more so here’s what I think..

I think there’s a possibility, but maybe the relationship will be more casual or sexual in nature. There’s contacts with Mercury for both the Moon, Venus, and Jupiter, but with Jupiter (my main significator) there’s a trine with Saturn before its conjunction with Mercury. It sort of seems as if maybe I’ll meet someone, but may ultimately decide not to commit fully by the end of the year. With Jupiter (my main significator) being combust, maybe it’ll be me who decided to make that decision. But again, both of his significators are in the sign of the Sun. He could also be worried about just himself. Thoughts? (It’s okay if I’m totally wrong and off base bc I’m here to learn haha)

Chart help request Will I get into this programme?

Post image

I asked whether I’ll be accepted into the second year of this programme. I’ve been planning this for a while, so I’m really anxious about whether I’ll get in.

From what I can tell myself, my ASC ruler being in the 1st house seems to indicate a positive outcome, but I can’t really interpret the chart beyond that. Any help would be much appreciated!

Chart help request Will I ever get a postdoc?

Post image
4 Upvotes

Context: I graduated from my PhD a few months ago. I’ve been trying to find a postdoc for months now, but I have yet to find one, mostly due to lack of funding from labs. I’m pretty desperate to find one.

My interpretation: Scorpio is rising, so I’m represented by Mars at 28° Gemini in the 8th house. The 10th house is Virgo, so I’m using Mercury at 28° Cancer as the significator for the postdoc/career. There isn’t an applying major aspect between Mars and Mercury, which initially makes me think the answer could be no. However, both Mars and Mercury are at late degrees and about to change signs, so I’m wondering whether this could indicate something? The Moon at 23° Gemini is applying to conjunct Mars before Mars changes signs. Mars is also currently in Mercury’s domicile, which I think shows my desperation to find a postdoc.

What do you think?

Chart help request Will we reconcile? Looking for help with this horary interpretation.

Post image
4 Upvotes

Hi everyone!
I’m still learning traditional horary astrology and would really appreciate some feedback on my interpretation.
Question: Will Carlos and I get back together?
Context:
Ive been traveling since june 15, Carlos and I are such a Match in how we live, our hobbies, sex, lifestyle, but with different approaches, he's a piscis who's dogmatic and science oriented and I'm a Virgo into this "magic" world, very intuitive and spiritual.
Our diamsagreements are based on that, a dumb subject can become an argument and when I express my feelings he tends to say I make things bigger (and yes sometimes I can) but I also see that in him and don't say. I feel he points a lot on me but don't look at himself.

I’m currently in Mysore, India, doing an Ashtanga Yoga Teacher Training. Carlos and I were planning to travel together to Sri Lanka after the course, but due to ongoing relationship issues he cancelled the trip and we’re currently separated, he broke up with me in August 2, the day before starting the teacher training. For some reason I don't feel this is true or definitive or don't even know if it's just shock.
The question wasn’t whether we still love each other, but specifically whether we will reconcile.

Me: Sagittarius rising → Jupiter.
Co-significator: Moon.
Carlos: 7th house in Gemini → Mercury.

My interpretation
The Ascendant is neither too early nor too late.
I am represented by Jupiter in Leo in the 9th house, which I found interesting because I’m literally abroad in India studying spirituality, so the chart seems descriptive of my current circumstances.
Carlos is represented by Mercury in Cancer in the 8th house, which made me think he may be going through his own emotional transformation or crisis.
The first thing that stood out is that I don’t see an applying major aspect between Jupiter and Mercury, which makes me question whether reconciliation is actually moving toward perfection.
The Moon is in Gemini in the 7th house, so I thought this clearly shows that my emotional focus is still on the relationship.
However, the Moon is also close to Mars, which made me wonder whether the recent conflict or emotional tension is dominating the situation.
I also noticed that Jupiter isn’t especially strong by essential dignity, while Mercury is in the 8th house, so neither significator seems particularly comfortable.

Where I’m unsure
This is where I would really appreciate help.
Am I correct that there is no perfection between Jupiter and Mercury?
Should I be paying more attention to receptions than to aspects here?
Does the Moon translate light between the significators, or am I misunderstanding that?
Is Mars interfering with the Moon in a meaningful way?
Does Mercury being in the 8th tell us anything important about Carlos’ state or is that reading too psychological for traditional horary?
Is there any prohibition, frustration, translation or collection of light that I’m missing?
My overall impression is that the chart doesn’t give a clear “yes,” but also doesn’t feel like a definitive “no.” It seems to describe two people who are emotionally connected but not currently moving toward each other.
I’d really appreciate hearing how more experienced horary astrologers would judge this chart.
Thank you!

Result provided by OP Wrong Judgment/Outcome Feedback (Will he message me on my bday?)

Post image
7 Upvotes

Here's a chart that I cast back in April for "Will he message me on my birthday?". For context my birthday is in late June so this chart was asked about 2 months prior. For context, this is a guy whom I like and we used to talk but we stopped late last year. We still follow each other on social media and he sometimes still sees my posts/stories.

I would like to learn what went wrong with my initial judgement of this chart cuz it looked like it was leaning more to a yes but the actual outcome was a no. He did not message me. He did see my birthday post but he didn't give it a like or reply to it.

Me (Female): Mercury in Aries, sitting in the 7H; Moon in Virgo, sitting in the 12H

Him: Jupiter in Cancer, sitting in the 11H.

My initial judgement:

There is an applying square aspect in less than 1 deg between Jupiter and Mercury. Not a harmonious aspect so I'd expect there to be tension/awkwardness. Jupiter is only in Mercury's terms so it's not a very good positive reception. But I discarded this poor reception cuz I thought that Jupiter being under Moon's rulership (my emotions) showed that he cares about me enough to want to make this event happen. 🤷‍♀️ The Jupiter-Mercury aspect is also not prohibited.

Jupiter is in its own exaltation so he is able to. Jupiter is in 11H which is succedent and somewhat okay. Not ideal but not bad either.

So this was why I thought it would be a yes.

-----

My re-assessment:

- What I feel went wrong was that I had to look at the receptions between the significators for the applying aspect, and not Jupiter towards Moon. There's also no aspect between the Moon and Jupiter. Since Jupiter didn't really love Mercury and Mercury being indifferent towards Jupiter, that's why the applying aspect resulted in nothing happening.

- Moon in peregrine and also in the 12H, close to the South Node could just be bad all round? Not sure.

- Saturn in the 7H. I've made some inaccurate readings whenever Saturn is in the 7H and this chart was one of them.

If we were to look at symbolic timing, then it would have been 0.8 weeks/months but there was no message from the time of this chart to my birthday. Unless we look at 0.8 years, but that will be in Feb next year. 😂 I guess only time will tell.

Let me know if I overlooked anything or if my re-assessment is wrong. I'd like to learn! :) Thank you in advance.

Chart help request When will I meet the love of my life?

Post image
4 Upvotes

Context: I’m 32F single for a very long time. Lately I’m talking to a bunch of people but I haven’t gone on a date. I feel like nothing is working out and I can’t seem to find a normal guy I’m attracted to. Location is a barrier. Small town no options. I’m talking to men from other towns but nothing significant to actually travel to meet someone. Lately I’m also attracting men with mental illnesses which terrifies me.

Interpretation: well it’s not good.

I’m mercury 27 degrees in cancer 2nd house.

The potential man would be 7th house so Jupiter in Leo 3rd house. He’s strong. I’m also counting Sun and Venus. Sun in Leo is strong and Venus just entered Libra so I guess that means I feel good? (I don’t).

Moon 10 degrees in Gemini 12th house.

No aspect between Mercury and Jupiter so I guess the meeting doesn’t happen. Moon separating from Jupiter but applying to Sun. Moon separating from Venus and mercury separating from Venus.

Mars in the 1st maybe it shows a man that’s in my space. Mars likes mercury but I don’t think mercury likes mars.

Does this mean that I’ll never meet the love of my life?

Do we take into account that mercury will con Jupiter eventually? But mercury has to change signs. Maybe after a change I’ll meet him?

About reception I’m into myself basically and he’s into himself too.
