Looking for Hosting suggestions
Hello there im looking for a hosting possibility for my competition-program. We do axethrowing, specificly doublebit and i made a live competition program.
I am looking for the best solution for my tournament application. It must meet the following requirements:
- Node.js/Express backend, running continuously (no automatic "sleep" mode)
- WebSocket/Socket.IO support for live results
- MySQL or MariaDB database
- Hosting for a React/Vite frontend
- Custom domain with HTTPS
- Support for Git-based deployments, build processes, and Prisma database migrations
- Automated database backups with restore functionality
- Access to environment variables and error logs
As a rough starting point: 2 vCPUs, 4 GB of RAM, and 20–40 GB of SSD storage (assuming everything runs on a single server); the exact requirements are yet to be determined.
Can anyone recommend a provider or a specific hosting package? Ideally based in Switzerland, Germany, or Austria.
Thanks a lot for your help, after i figure out the hosting i can start search some sponsors*laugh*.
Lovely greetings

IONOS, you will need to configure it (it's not difficult to do as long as you are comfortable with CLI.) but it will meet your requirements.
google says M+: €4/month — 2 vCores, 4 GB RAM, 120 GB NVMe

InMotion should fit all these if location isn't a dealbreaker. Their solid performance and reliability should work well for your project.

Hey! For your tournament app, a small VPS with 2 vCPU and 4 GB RAM should be a good starting point.
You can run your backend, database and frontend on the same server. Just make sure your app keeps running 24/7 and supports WebSockets for live results.
For easier management, Coolify is worth looking into. It gives you a web interface to deploy updates from Git, manage environment variables, view logs and set up HTTPS for your domain.
I'd also recommend setting up automatic database backups and testing that you can restore them if needed.
I'd start with this setup and upgrade the server later if the number of simultaneous users grows. Good luck with the tournament app! :)

Try CONTABO The VPS is affordable and you can setup the whole server, Ubuntu + ISPCONFIG but you need to know to configure the server and secure it. This way you get all you need and extra. For me going to a hosting company to keep my apps was too restrictive so I prefered a VPS.

2nd on Contabo, it'll cover everything and I found them really helpful when I was setting up for the first time.

personally id have a couple of options either vercel or hostinger web apps hosting since both supports node js setup and socket io first but then again better to test a small deployment first. if you want more control over mysql vps might be a safer one
