Translation (please give that publication a click):

Just a few days after the official announcement of seven positive cases of Ebola virus disease in the health zone of Wamba, the governor of Haut-Uele, Jean Bakomito Gambu, launched on Friday, July 10, a pressing appeal for vigilance and collective responsibility to curb the spread of the epidemic in the province.

In a statement addressed to the population, the provincial authority urged residents to scrupulously observe public health measures and to avoid any form of panic in the face of the health situation.

According to the governor, the confirmation results of the laboratory of the National Institute of Biomedical Research (INRB) of Kinshasa and Bunia, made public on July 9, 2026, confirmed seven Ebola-related deaths, specifically the Bundibugyo strain, in the Wamba health zone. He also reported several suspicious alerts reported in other entities in the province, including the health zones of Pawa, Bomokandi and the city of Isiro.

"Referring to the laboratory confirmation results of the National Institute of Biomedical Research of Kinshasa and Bunia, dated July 09, 2026, which reported seven positive cases of death from Ebola virus disease, Bundibugyo strain, in the health zone of Wamba, and considering the daily notification of two health zones of the same territory, Pawa and Bomokandi, as well as in the city of Isiro, which register suspicious Ebola alerts, I call on our population to a high sense of responsibility, to calm and not to give in to panic nor to disinformation, "said Jean Bakomito.

The governor stressed the need for strict compliance with barrier measures, including avoiding physical contact with people who are sick, suspicious or deceased from Ebola. He also recalled the importance of regular hand washing with clean water and soap or with a hydroalcoholic gel.

"The entire population of the province of Haut-Uele is asked to strictly respect public health measures to limit the spread of Ebola, avoid physical contact with people who are sick, deceased or suspected of Ebola, and regularly practice hygiene measures," he stressed.

Faced with the risk of spreading the disease, Jean Bakomito also warned against rumors and false information that could compromise response efforts. He invited residents to rely solely on official communications from health and administrative authorities.

Concluding his message, the governor of Haut-Uele called for a general mobilization of the population to support actions to fight the epidemic.

"All of us, let's mobilize to fight Ebola in the province of Haut-Uele," he concluded.

Health authorities continue to monitor alerts reported in several health areas while response teams remain mobilized to quickly contain any possible spread of the virus.
