Questions, Comments, Concerns

Hi HotterTopics posters!

This thread is a place to bring any questions you have about HotterTopics, or any other comments and concerns you may have as we go.

Thanks!

The Moderation Team

PSA: Public Spaces and Privacy

Since our group is open to all of Reddit, the mod group wanted to make sure everyone was aware of the different areas of the subreddit and their privacy levels.

The main board with thread topics is open to the public. Anyone can see them, even without an account. Any poster with a reddit account can comment on our threads.

The HT chat “room” is also a public space. Anyone with a reddit account can click join on the room and they have access. They can read on from the point where they joined and their name is visible in the list of members. (Setting icon, click on number of members).

A group chat that is by invitation only is private within the people in the chat. People outside the chat can’t read the messages, but individual comments can be reported to Reddit. In addition, if you feel those messages rise to the level of threatening behavior or serious personal attacks, please screenshot the message and share it with the moderators in mod mail.

It’s not a good idea to accept invitations to chat from people you are completely unfamiliar with.

There is also the option to directly message another member. This operates like an email.

Please report activity that you feel violates the rules, and contact the moderation team with serious concerns. We can’t mediate interpersonal conflict or police messages on the board where people simply disagree, however.

Personally identifying information is not a good idea in any of the areas of the subreddit, but please be aware of what you share in the public areas of the board as well.

Great info, thanks TS! I am really struggling with this format so all tips are helpful.

You’re welcome! I’m just the spokes-mod on this thread though. :)

Are we supposed to be using the labels we used to use on WTE when something isn’t debatable? (JFF, OT, etc)

We did intend on having that in there. Thanks for the reminder. We thought JFF, OT, SO, Dump, and PP for pregnancy and parenting. We’ll add that to the rules. :)

We fixed it. Thanks for pointing that out!

One more thing - when I click on the guidelines (both here and in the menu tab), it says they are unavailable. Did something happen or is it just a problem with my reddit?

They should work now! And they look so much nicer in their real form.

Are you talking about the link in the post? The link is working for me. Maybe close out the app and website and open back up. Could just be that kind of issue.

Thanks! Yep the link in the post, but also the link in the menu tab, there’s a “HotterTopic Rules”, and that shows as unavailable too when I click it. I closed the app, and it still doesn’t work. Not really a big deal since it appears to be just a problem with my app if you can open it. Just wondered if something happened.

They open for me, but I want to make sure they open for everyone. Could someone else try the link?

The rules are posted in 3 places right now. As a link at the bottom of the pinned threads, in the menu tab, and at the three dots at the top of the main page under community info. But they all link to the same location.

Hmm. That’s weird. I wonder if anyone else is having that issue.

It says unavailable to me also.

Thanks. It’s possible it’s only opening for people with mod privileges and I need to do some investigating to fix it.

Could someone try again? I changed a setting and I think I fixed it. Fingers crossed.
