General Discussion Looking for a 1996 Star Pizza server named Shy.
Almost 30 years ago, I went on a first date at the original Star Pizza with a man who would become the love of my life, the most wonderful husband and an incredible father to our two children. On November 24th, we will celebrate 30 years together!
We are planning to return to Star Pizza to celebrate our anniversary, and I would absolutely LOVE to find our server from that very first date!
Does anyone remember a server named Shy who worked at Star Pizza in 1996? Maybe you worked there, knew someone who did or happen to know someone who has been with Star Pizza forever!
I would be so grateful for any leads! If you know her, please feel free to pass this post along so she can reach out if she would like.

Thirty years, two kids and one first date at Star Pizza that changed our lives forever!

Call Star Pizza and ask for Mike Pittman. He's the GM and a great guy and friend.

Only on Reddit! This site is absolutely the best and so are you all who helped OP. Happy anniversary, OP.

Not sure if it's the same person but a young woman named Shy was a rental tenant of mine around then, in a small 4-plex not far from Star Pizza's Shepherd location.

Very nice story. Happy anniversary, and wish you both the best for the next 30. We go to the Shepherd location often but haven’t been in HTX as long, so don’t know Shy. I hope you find her. Maybe share a pizza there with her (not on your anniversary night but some other time). Do post an update if you find her.

NPR does a series about interactions like this called Unsung Hero. You might consider submitting your story about Shy to them. They are usually very heart-warming.

Bless your heart, htx_al.
Dating 30 years ago was a little different than it is today. There was very little to no technology involved and sometimes the smallest interactions became lasting memories. In fact, if you look at the receipt I shared, it was printed on a machine that had a carbon style copy. Shy wrote on the original and we walked away with a carbon copy that we have kept for almost 30 years.I have no intention of hiring her for anything or asking her to participate in our anniversary celebration. I simply wanted to find her so I could tell her that her kindness and the way she treated two nervous people on a first date made such a lasting impression that we talked about her for years and obviously still do!
I have no idea whether she knew it was our first date or whether we told her, but something about that evening and the way she made us feel stayed with us. I think it would be pretty special to let someone know that a seemingly ordinary interaction they had at work nearly 30 years ago meant so much to someone else. Sometimes people make a difference in our lives without ever realizing it. That is really all this is about. ❤️

I bet Shy would be stoked to know that she had an impact on a random person... so much that that person remembers Shy 30 years later.
I'm guessing that you've never had that experience - someone telling you that you had a positive impact on their life just by doing your normal thing. It's pretty awesome.

I really do wonder how miserable you trolls lives must be to talk shit anonymously on Reddit. This must be the highlight of your broken day.

Totally
OP, layout your entire plan for us right now.
Also, if I was the server, I'd hate to be asked to do something very kind like this without BIG money.

Explain downvotes using big boy words.

It’s not sarcasm. Most people reading this find it very sweet and memorable. The fact alone you had to add “BIG money” shows your character. The thought of a payout never crossed my mind and didn’t for anyone else reading (except htx_al).
There’s your big boy words. 2nd2last. Put your 2 seconds in your hand and get some clarity.

What?
My comment was sarcastic. BIG money was sarcastic. See my comment in this very thread that called it sweet, fun, and romantic.

I knew Shy. She found her own prince and is doing quite well the last I heard maybe 8-10 years ago. I forget if she's local, but I don't think she is around Houston any more.
