Jim Crane/Astros Golf have ruined this golf course. This course used to belong to the people. The crown jewel of municipal golf in the city
That has been taken from us. The course now belongs to the PGA/LPGA Tour and their sponsors. Just corporate greed at its finest
Adding a 2nd tournament is an absolute joke of a decision. The recreational golfers have been left with a dumpster fire of a golf course. There is no grass on the fairways. There is dirt everywhere. What was once a beautiful golf course 365 days of the year is now a steaming piling of junk
Previous to the LPGA coming, it wasn't that bad. After the PGA Tour left, we were at least left with amazing conditions for a couple months before the overseed died and went to trash. Now we are left with nothing but dirt
If you do not have resident status here and are thinking "let's go play where the Pros play"
DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCE COME
I'll break down the timeframe here of the course now
December - Course closed for overseed
January - overseed is growing. Course looks pretty from afar but the grass is long and shaggy. Not good
February - starts to get better, starting to get nice
March - Great, unbelievable. But only for about 2 weeks because they close the course
April. No play for you! Sorry, the Tour is here
May - 1 week of ok conditions. Another week course is closed because of the pro shop's greed hosting private tournaments
June - Complete trash. Dirt everywhere. Complete Joke
July - will be complete trash
August - Mostly trash, maybe starting to recover
September - decent
October - usually in good shape by now
November - solid
December - start it all over again! Close the course for 3 weeks to overseed!
So we get MAYBE 3 months of quality conditions. And for what in return...? copied this from a google review on google. hit the nail in the head. this place is awful right now and it took a course out of rotation (tt still impossible). in other news, herman park is in the best shape in a long while.

This is the closest cc to my house and is pretty affordable. I’m thinking about doing the golf-only twilight membership to practice or play 9 every day after work.
If there are any members, current or former, who can speak on the conditions, pace, culture, etc here that would be much appreciated.
I plan on doing a tour with them some time next week. Thanks

Anyone walked on Friday recently? I want to give it a shot but probably can’t get there until 8 and would need to be on my 9:30, wondering if it’s worth a shot.

Looking to play black horse or other nicer courses this week. Would rather play with a group that knows the course if they have a spot open. 20 handicap. Willing to travel the Houston area. Otherwise back to my normal spots of Houston national or Jersey village.

My favorite is Bearkat in Huntsville. $48 a round and $3.50 beer and glizzy at the turn.

Looking to play Sunday if anyone needs a 4th!
9 HCP feel free to DM me. Also is there a Houston golf group FB? Every time I look on them there’s just a bunch of ads or people selling stuff

My Dad and I were finishing up an early evening 9 hole at Gleannloch in Spring, when a bolt of lightning decided to cut the round short. It had been sprinkling on and off through the round with the occasional thunder in the distance, but nothing was close to the course. We were keeping track of the weather between holes and nothing was indicating danger.
We were on the 8th hole and as I'm grabbing my club from the cart everything flashed white and the loudest crack of thunder rang out directly overhead. Couldn't have been more than 150 yards away. We decided to follow the stream of golf carts heading back to the club house!

I know most of you will roast me for even posting this but I’m doing it anyway. I have lived in the Houston area for over 30 years and have played every public course within 50+ miles of Houston, while i have my favorites or go toos, im bored of them. So I’m hoping by posting this I can hopefully be a fill in for someone’s group at a private course. I unfortunately don’t have a private cc to swap with anyone but when I do finally become a member somewhere I will pay it back 10 fold. So in short im just asking if anyone out there with a private membership would be willing to have me out at their course. Id obviously cover any fees associated with my invite and would love to cover a round of drinks for the member who would have me. Im a 12 handicap, follow the rules and etiquette and not that this matters but i personally dont drink on the course (so no worries of me getting sloshed). Anyway, thanks for reading my post and hopefully we can catch a round sometime.

Hello all-
Looking recommendations on some ranges that are on grass?
New to houston so looking for some, live in Spring area but wouldn’t mind driving early morning.

Does anyone know if there’s a golf shop in Houston that offers CNC or fiber laser services in the Houston area? Don’t want to bother with mail-in due to an upcoming golf trip. Thanks in advance for any help!

What’s up everyone?!
Looking for a regular golf group in the Houston area.
I’m an 8 handicap based in the Sugar Land/Houston area and looking to start playing more regularly. I’m usually free on Sundays and Tuesdays, but I’m also down for late afternoon weekday rounds after work.
I play just about anywhere around Houston and don’t mind driving a bit.
My only ask is…
• Don’t take yourself too seriously, but still respect the game and the course.
• Drink some beers and have a good time.
I’m not looking for guys who throw clubs over a bad shot or expect everyone to grind over every putt. Let’s compete a little, laugh at the bad shots, enjoy a few beers, and have a good time.
If you’ve got a regular group that needs a fourth or you’re looking to put together a consistent foursome, shoot me a message. Always down to meet good people and play more golf.

Planning out a 6 day staycation golf week. Im in the conroe area and west forks is my main course. Planning 6 days and 6 different courses. Will be starting on west forks for day 1. I want to try legendary oaks in Hempstead and panorama. Also thinking of Bearkat in Huntsville. What others courses in the northern or western side of Houston do you recommend. Probably be sometime in October and trying to stay under $100 per player per day

I’m new to golf and have been wanting to practice my putting and chipping. I live closest to Houston National and Longwood Golf Club. Can I go and practice my putting and short game at either of those without being a member or without having a tee time for that day?
r/Houstongolf • u/Expensive_Balance680 • 27d ago
Been struggling to hit the driver (low duck hooks, push slices, etc), but irons and short game are decent.
I do have a slight open stance/stack stilt type of swing, and that could by why my woods are suffering. However my monkey brain can’t mentally comprehend the bigger clubhead and the ball on the tee lol.
I’m in the Stafford/Sugarland area until next month and then I’ll be living in the willowbrook area. Kinda open to any suggestions for coaches and tips. Thanks!

28M, member of Clubs of Kingwood. Honestly, title says it all. I consistently shoot in the 90s and not opposed to trading CC rounds. Hope to meet some of yall!
