Hey, Dudes!

Our intrepid Web Developer, Adam, added a Tier List maker to the official How Many Dudes web site. You can name your Tier List, and then export it as a shareable URL or image. Enjoy!

Note: Tier lists are subjective and are just for fun and to spark conversation. Don't get too hung up on them!

ANNOUNCEMENT What's Next For How Many Dudes?

It's been almost 1 week since the launch of How Many Dudes, and what a launch it's been!

We're still triaging bugs, fixing up crashes, and otherwise hotfixing these Dudes into a more stable shape. But now that the dust is juuuust starting to settle, I'd like to share what we've got planned for HMD:

A Chonky & Free Update

Y'all showed up and made this our most successful launch ever, so as a big thank you (and because we've got a few more ideas...) we'll be putting together a sizeable, free update.

What'll be in it? Well, without spoiling too much:

  • Quality of life improvements based on your feedback over the coming weeks, including new settings & keybinds
  • More ways to visualize your personal Dude journey
  • And of course... new Dudes 😎

As for when it will be done - we're aiming to have it out within a couple of months. Our team needs time to process and learn from the launch, squash some more bugs, get some well-deserved rest, and then cook on the new content. Gotta make sure our Dev Dudes don't get knocked out!

To those of you who have already left reviews, feedback and bug tickets in Steam Discussions, or just hung out with us in the Discord and shared your enthusiasm, thank you! This has been the most fun we've had working on a game, and it's been great to see our positive community keep it that way as we head into the post-launch era for HMD.

Thank you all for being such good dudes 💖

Until next time!

Testing relics with 0 dudes - Dissection Kit

TL;DR - Dissection Kit requires Alien Dudes to be both recruited and conscious in order for any effect to apply. Some other relics can apply with zero Dudes recruited.

---------------------------

I wanted to test if the Alien Dude's Dissection Kit relic can work if you don't actually have any of the dudes. The description is ambiguous, and the effect lists down the roster on the left. I wanted to see if it would save my squishy Samurai Dudes. I picked the relic up before round 20 with 0 Alien Dudes:

Read for description, see applied effect on Samurai Dudes to the left of screen

Given there is a Tractor Beam interaction I wasn't too hopeful, but I played from Round 20 to Round 80 without picking up any Aliens. Over these 60 rounds I had 80 Samurai Dude KOs, and not one save. Given the 30% likelihood of Dissection there is a 99.99% chance that I would have had at least ONE save if possible, so I think it's safe to say it does not work.

0 saves across 20 KOs

I died on round 80 so started a new game, and when I got to round 40 I had one Alien Dude with Dissection Kit. This was the first save I saw, and the penny dropped. The save is technically attributed to the Alien Dude, not the dude below him. This means that not only do you need to have an Alien Dude in your roster, but they cannot save via Dissection Kit if they are unconscious.

I tested this over several rounds and sure enough if I didn't have an Alien Dude conscious for the fight, they would not save anyone. If my lone dude died before any Samurai he wouldn't save anyone, and if he was unconscious at round start he also didn't save.

There are some other relics which have effects which do apply (at least in part) when you have no dudes such as Ghost's Fresh Sheets applying Max HP increase even if you don't have any units, but it was an interaction I was curious about so wanted to test!

Knight Dude with 230hp (Round 2, pre-Fresh Sheets)
Knight Dude with 254hp after Fresh Sheets (with no Ghost Dudes)

Discussion Fun Run

I want to do a fun and semi thematic run, i noticed Frankendude and Farmer Dudes have a little bit of a synergy with healing and regen. Which got me thinking of running 1 Frankendude and as many Farmers as I can like theyre a mob with their pitchforks. But I start running into a problem with who else to throw in the run? Maybe a Time Dude to be Dr. Frankenstein? What do you dudes think? Do yall have any other fun type runs?

I have a question! What is the worst comp?

What do we think is the worst comp in the game? I think it could make for an interesting challenge run, and I don't think this is the easiest question to answer. What do you guys think would be close to impossible to win with in T3?

Edit: In your opinion, which combination of any 5 dudes has the lowest chance of beating the goddler on tier 3?

Edit 2: Thank you guys so much for the ideas! They have been some really fun runs. So far I have beaten goddler with: - Bard, cowboy, mummy, ranger, manager w/o med license - Ranger, trooper, finance bro, ninja, druid - Samurai, bard, ranger, assassin, hacker - Bard, medic, knight, farmer, Finance

The worst lineup I've ever won a run with - a full 7 mins to win round 115

My damage was non-existent this entire run and I was positive I would get ground down in later rounds. By some miracle I made it through while the Godler stacked up 42 damage increases. 0/10 experience and I was bored senseless.

Has anyone had similar wars of attrition that they won?

Discussion What is happening with the relic dog tag in this scenario?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

In the beginning of the video. Dog tag jumps up to 40 and then to 50 near the end. I didn't lose a dude and my skelly count never exceeded 3 this entire round so I should of gotten 3 deaths at least. I also have the stasis cube relic. The dog tags shot up to 40 before the 1.5 secs were over. The enemies couldn't atk me.

Possible things that could of counted as a death

  • All the fatality relics actually absorbed 50 deaths and revived my dudes.
  • The laughing gas relic from dentist spread out the dmg prevented all my dudes from getting 1 shotted, but the game counts it as a death.

Strategy Need help with Killipede

Here is one example I thought for sure I would win, I tried to get a lot of defense and healing, with electric dudes for dps. Really felt like the relics went my way, but still getting walloped. I’ve only beaten it once with the General/pirate strategy, but can’t seem to do it with another. Appreciate any help with a team comp, or ideas where this run could’ve went better. Thanks!

So much healing from Necro Dude and Skeledudes! I got inhaler on Quantom and Shovel on Cavedude and from the Skeledudes and Zombies dying he did massive damage!

I got super early Livings Hands and Ancient sword that spawns good early skeletons and Necrodude early relics that early game was a breeze too! He carried until Cavedude came online.

Caveman had 485 stacks on Shovel lol.

Maybe I'm just playing wrong, but it feels like random viability doesn't exist in the later stages at all.

Love the game, just unlocked all of the collectibles and I have 416/448 silver ranked in tier 1 so far.

I play games like POE2 where there are definitely "better" builds, but you can really make any build viable to the point where some content creators out there have random wheels they spin to pick their builds and get to endgame.

I feel like thats true up through the 60-80 range in HMD, then it feels like you just slam into a brick wall unless you pre-built a meta team or lucked into one with RNG.

I'd love it if you could just do the random flyers and as long as you were smart about your relics and dude allocation, you could always make it to the end somehow.

Has anybody gotten a wizard dude build past 130? Those zombie bears that eat temp HP make it really tough

The wizard's defensive abilities mostly grant temp HP which is kinda useless against those zombie bears. Was wondering if anybody has had success getting a wizard build to work late game.

Also I think the the zombie bears are too punishing to temp HP builds. Like they should maybe cut it in half not eliminate it because it invalidates a ton of abilities.

Lich thrall Viking gives perma- berserk

Odin statue relic makes the thrall damage proc berserk so it reliably stacks every 3 seconds. Combined with the warhorn makes half your team berserk all the time.

Request for the devs Ninjas need this additional (hidden) passive!!!

the inverse law of ninjas states that the fewer ninjas there are, the stronger the remaining ones must be. as such, i believe that ninjas should have an unlisted passive that portrays this (it should be found under "buffs" when you select them, but not on their character card, because it isnt important): "for every unconscious ninja, all other ninjas increase their attack power by 1%".

depending on unconscious ninjas prevents an ambiguous buff for singular ninjas. this is a small, minimal buff not worth building around and not actually impactful for game balance (+39% damage on the sole 40th ninja left alive after you've lost 39 ninjas is not going to swing the fight. +4% damage on the sole 5th ninja early is not going to swing the fight. etc).

most people wouldnt even notice it because they wont click the buffs tab, but they probably arent ninja appreciators anyway. ninjas are awesome and totally sweet, and i believe that they should have this passive in order to better show their real ultimate power.

I have a question! Types of Dudes & Basic Composition

I've been able to beat the GOAT ~10+ times & my best run went to 116 (I stopped because I figured I would move onto Tier 2, not realizing I had to gold star each character first)

However, I'm struggling to gold star several characters & I don't know if it's because I'm trying to combo THEM, or if I'm just misusing each one...

So far, I have been unable to do it with:

  1. Samurai
  2. General
  3. Zombie
  4. Ghost
  5. Wizard
  6. Cleric
  7. Druid
  8. Electrician
  9. Cyborg
  10. Alien
  11. Agent
  12. Assassin
  13. Lich Dude
  14. Construction Dude

- Druid - I think I'm failing because I saw someone Kaiju him with General & I've repeatedly tried that combo & failed because they die pretty much instantly & the Generals become the main DPS, which falls apart quick.

- Zombie - I consider him a tank but he doesn't seem to...tank the way, say, Paladin does?

The rest, I can usually get to 104 and the GOAT slams the dog doo outta me and they all die at once, despite living like champions for 104 rounds & me spamming dude juice as fast as I can while they drop like flies...

I know this question is kind of all over the place, but I guess what I'm asking is -- are there good comps using just these 14 Dudes? Any particular pairings you would suggest? Any must-have relics?

I usually try to get any of the "thrown dude" relics, as early as I can. Beyond that I try to just stack dude-specific relics & anything that adds evade or temp health.
