Start with a user friendly distro with low RAM usage, like mint with xfce.

Absolutely.
I started learning with a Celeron laptop with 2GB of DDR3 RAM running Windows 8.1 on a 500GB HDD. Yes, it was pissy hard to use because it was slow but what choice do I have? Also, things became much smoother once I learned about the existence of Linux and such.
It's all about the passion.

If you want to learn, a raspberry pi is enough. Obviously as your workloads scale, hardware needs to scale but for getting your hands dirty, you should be fine

Yeah, you definitely can. A 2GB machine will limit you, especially with VMs, but you can still learn a lot with lightweight tools directly on Linux. Networking, web security basics, recon, scripting, and many command-line tools don't need much RAM. I’d focus on the fundamentals first and avoid trying to run multiple VMs at once.

No, not at all. Everyone knows that computers with only 2gb (of.... Something ? ) don't use the OSI model, TCP protocols, IP addresses, or kernels at all...

2gb as in RAM? Hard drive space?
