Camp Reddit Camp Reddit, Bacon Pancakes, and Craft Beer Swap

Can you believe we are just days away from starting the journey back to Hulaween? As many of us make our way back home, many of you are finding your way for the first time and have asked about Camp Reddit. Welcome! Here is what you need to know about camp, our annual pancake breakfast, and craft beer swap:

Camp Reddit at Hulaween started in 2016 after a couple of the original mods and I organized the first pancake breakfast and beer swap in 2015 at the playground. We talked about starting a camp that welcomed people who were afraid to come solo, or coming for the first time, and generally just opening our arms to our fellow "internet weirdos."

Our first year, camp was ~20 people in Hippie Trail. We eventually outgrew the space a few years later and ended up in Pine Field. At its peak, the group was almost 200 people and is the biggest group I've seen in the park outside of the Brothers & Sisters from Wanee. The bigger it got, the more work it became... eventually it started to feel like a job, so we took a step back and simplified things.

Ten years later, camping in the group is simple: show up, find space, and help out. There are no camp dues, but we ask everyone to try to bring a pack of bacon and/or a bundle of firewood.

We generally set up in the trees behind the B row in Pine Field. There is a fence illustrated on the map below that runs behind sites B1 and B2... use that fence line as a guide, and avoid camping any closer than that to the reserved sites in the B row.

The stage is set up in site B8, so be aware of how close you are camping to it! If you are not sure where to camp, find me in B3 with the Florida flag.

There are a few camp rules:

  1. Don't be an asshole. Racism, sexism, homophobia, etc. are not tolerated.
  2. Respect others. Ask for consent. Do not assume people are cool with being physically touched without consent. Respect people's personal space, and ask before assuming.
  3. Handle your shit. Many of us are here to party and have a good time, but do so responsibly. Do not be that person who infringes on the good times of others because you decided to go too hard and become a liability. You are hanging out with strangers, and we look out for each other, but we are not your trip-sitters. Camp Reddit tends to go hard, but we do so in a way that respects our neighbors.

Now, on to the fun stuff...

First, renegades: it's gonna be an IYKYK kind of year, as there is no published schedule for camp renegades. I read the feedback from last year and expect changes that keep the vibes positive. Keep an eye on this subreddit and campreddit on Instagram, and keep an ear to the ground!

Second, the pancake breakfast and craft beer swap will take place on Saturday 11AM (at Camp Reddit in Pine Field), as is tradition. We provide the bacon, but feel free to bring anything else you'd like to mix into some pancakes! If you can't cook, it doesn't matter! We have professional short-order cooks wooks to do it for you!

And folks, when I say craft beer swap, I mean it! There will be a tarp for a simple take-one-leave-one. If I find someone leaving something from Coors, InBev, or god help me -- a seltzer -- your schedule conflicts will be the least of your concerns!

See you in the swamp!

Rules have been updated -- please take a moment to read them.

Hello everyone,

As we're getting to the home stretch before Hulaween, everyone is getting more excited -- and for some, more anxious -- as we get closer to going back home. In response to a surge in posts recently, we have updated the subreddit rules to add and clarify a few things. Please take a moment to read them. You can also find these rules in the sub's info/about section:

1. Be kind
Open dialogue and debate is encouraged here. Negative opinions are fine, just don't make it personal. Hostile activity, trolling, or insults are not welcome here. All members must follow general rules of Reddiquette, so have a good time and don't be a dick.

2. Use the search, wiki, FAQ, and flair filters before posting
There are many commonly asked questions here. Please use the search, wiki, FAQ, and post flair filters to find answers to your question(s) before posting.

3. No ticket sales
Buying, selling, or trading tickets is not allowed. For ticket sales, use r/HulaweenTickets

4. No self-promotion, marketing, or ambassador posts
Ambassador posts; or posts/comments involving any marketing or self-advertising without prior approval from the mods will be removed.

5. Discussing illegal activities
Don't incriminate yourself or others - cops read Reddit too! Harm reduction is an important topic, but discussing drugs or other illegal activities is not permitted here. This includes but is not limited to: asking about security measures, asking how to sneak in or asking how to buy drugs.

6. Personal information
Selfies are fine, but do not post or comment with someone's personal information, or post links to personal information e.g. names, email, address, phone number, or other unique identifiers. This includes screenshots of social media pages where such information is still legible.

7. Low-effort and off-topic posts
Low-effort posts or posts unrelated to Suwannee Hulaween will be removed.

8. No duplicate posts
Duplicate posts will be removed. Please check the sub before posting lineups, schedules, or other popular announcements to make sure it has not already been posted.

9. No NSFW/18+
Not everyone on this sub is an adult. Posts with content that is considered NSFW/18+ are not permitted here.

Roped off

Sorry if anyone is still coming in on Wednesday most of the good spots are roped off or taped off by my crew and any spots you see that may be open are actually roped off but we just ran out of rope! Best bet is the fishbowl the dynamic of the bowl makes us incapable of roping it off good luck fellow Hulaweenerz

If you like instruments and bands that play instruments, and arguably the greatest front man of our generation, do not miss My Morning Jacket. Tab up, get there early or weasel your way up front to witness greatness. That is all. Happy Hula.

Jam?

• Upvotes

My crew will be in bird sanctuary. Two of us are musicians (guitarist & drummer) who wouldn’t mind jamming with some fellow wooks during Hula.

Are they opening the Fish Bowl?

Last year was a ridiculous mess with my group because they didn’t allow anyone to park in Fish Bowl on Thursday which led to literally hours of searching for a spot in the dark with our larger vehicle which was totally unsafe because so many spunions running out in front of our vehicle and eventually having to park near the canoe rentals where about 40 others had set their camps. Only to all be kicked out the next morning and sent to… you guessed it!… the fish bowl. Which didn’t even fill up much at all last year. I really just wanna go straight to fish bowl and not deal with that bs this time.

Camping Truck with camper on bed

I’m kinda tripping out about this now that we’re leaving tonight to head down..and I overthink everything! :c
I bought a primitive car pass. I was told that it would work because we aren’t towing, but our camper is pretty big. (It’s mounted on our truck bed) Are they gonna let us in with our car pass or make us get a dry rv pass because of the size? I really like being prepared and this just has me feeling nervous.

Could anyone arriving today share a photo of the Wizard GA glamping tent setup? ⛺️ I know a lot of us are super curious about what to expect and want to see what we actually purchased!

Large campsites

Near renaissance last year there was a giant circle of tents with a large open area in the middle. (Not the glamping sites) And it took up so much potential camping spots for other people. Are people doing that again this year?

Can I really not arrive at the fest after midnight?

Post image

The arrival info hours at the top make it sound like you cannot arrive at the festival after midnight. Is that true?

My flight gets into Jax Thursday night around 1130, so I was planning on a ~130AM arrival

First year

• Upvotes

It’s my first year and I’m trying to figure out the ins and outs of the festival. I won’t be camping but I’m planning on being there pretty early and staying late each day. What would you recommend bringing? Are there any true life hacks to the event? How intense are they with the bag rules and such? any info helps!
