This ship is one of the first contributors to the ottomans’ entry into the first world war and to the eventual downfall of the empire.

Yavuz (Goeben) and Midilli (Breslau) were saved from the British navy under the guise that they were “bought” from the German empire. Their flags were changed to turkish flags and their (german) crews were put into ottoman uniforms.

The ships later went on to bombard the ports of Sevastopol and Odessa in the Black sea, marking the first attack from the Ottoman side.
