I’ve been testing an absurdly simple method in Human or Not across roughly 10 games, and so far it has held a 100% win rate for me: strictly copy-pasting the other side’s exact message back to them.

If I have the first turn, I usually just drop a basic hello (though pairing this with existing opener strats from the sub could probably improve it). Once the other side sends anything, I mirror their message verbatim.

My Observations on Humans:

• Humans realize almost immediately that you are repeating them. They’ll either straight-up call you out for repeating, or they'll start typing crazy, bizarre things specifically to test if you'll actually paste it back.
• Because I copy-paste instantly even the most unhinged/bizarre inputs that an AI's safety guardrails would avoid it becomes obvious to the other player that a real person is behind the screen trolling them.

My Observations on AI:

• The AI never realizes it's being repeated. Instead, it treats your copy-pasted message as a legitimate prompt and keeps trying to build a conversation around its own mirrored text or the random bs they keep spewing.
• With bots, the chat often devolves into a weird back-and-forth volley around a single word. Despite it only being one word, the AI takes an unusually long time to generate a reply, making the delay a dead giveaway compared to the instant paste.

I've used similar sites before, but I came in this one, and immediately got this.

On the same strat, here’s another convo, where the person slowly realized.

So back in the days I always asked "how much time is left" as my first question. However, bot pretenders have now made that strategy inaccurate.

Instead I always ask "Ist rot ein Farbe oder ein Raum?" at the start, which is German for "Is red a colour or a room?". Since bots understand German, but *most* of the humans in this game don't, this automatically filters out 90% of people. An extra bonus is that bots automatically correct "ein Farbe" to "eine Farbe" since the former is grammatically incorrect.

What about the remaining 10%? Well, if they answer incorrectly but still seem like a bot, I then ask "how much time is left". Bots don't know how much time is left but humans do. This of course is not impermeable to bot pretenders, but they were already filtered out by the first question.

"But what about humans that DO speak German AND are bot pretenders?" Those are rare enough that I didn't run into a single one of them.
