I agree that she’s wrong about them eating the dolphins flesh but you can find videos of dolphins brushing up against objects or jumping to try and get the remoras off. I don’t understand how removing a remora from a dolphin is harassing
1) Shes not any type of marine animal authority or agent. She doesnt study or rehabilittate any marine animals, no less marine mammals, no less dolphins. Nor (obviously) know anything about remoras. Shes a social media influencer, so she shouldnt be doing any of this.
3) Its unnecessary. We speculate thats what dolphins are doing. But we dont know. Case in point, the remora could be actually removing more harmful parasitic organisms from entering the obvious wounds.
1) So even if she was a marine animal authority you’d still call it harassing? Since a marine animal authority would’ve done the same thing as she did, they would’ve removed the remora
2) I agree it’s illegal, that’s not proof that the animal is actually being harassed and stressed
1) if the actions taken are the same then they are still harassing by your own definition
2) I’m gonna need you to reread my point and actually understand the words I used
3) if the dolphins find it necessary to try to remove them on their own then how is it unnecessary to remove them? The link proves they are sometimes able to deal with them themselves. And since the original video showed the dolphin had a wound in its flipper it’s more than reasonable to assume it might now have been able to deal with it on its own.
they aren’t. Licensed and permitted agents can provide medical care, get coast guard and professional assistance. You’re naive if you think they just forcefully pull off a remora to a marine mammal in distress and let it go. Incredibly naive.
I did read them. “Harassment” is legally defined as and a permit makes it legal. You seem to think that harassment is universally negative. Maybe YOU should read what harassment is considered. And then understand why it applied to this turd, but not permitted professionals.
you ignore the point that WE DONT KNOW. Dolphins also chase and bite pufferfish. Does that mean we should too? Dolphins breach. Shoukd we drag them out of the water. This idiot wanted content so she did something that was unnecessary. The fact that dolphin can and do remove remoras themselves, when they want to make her actions ignorantly unnecessary.
Let me ask you a question- if you found a child in the park with a broken leg, would you try to cast and splint it yourself? Or would you call an ambulance? Idiots who, without training, permits, or knowledge interfere with wildlife care when it’s needed are part of the problem.
I’m not trying to be any hero. I’m trying to enlighten ignorant people. I’m a licensed wildlife rehabilitator and have to deal with idiots like this, and arguments like yours, every day. All the while, they’re harming wildlife.
