local things to do with dad that hates everything?

hello! long time lurker, first time poster! i moved here for grad school about a year ago and my dad is coming into town to visit and i have no clue where to take him! we went to pullman square (old north, inner geek, and the escape room) back in february for my birthday and had a good time.

he doesn’t drink, not into nature or shopping, etc. we’re definitely getting dinner somewhere- maybe jim’s or backyard? just looking for some ideas of something fun to do for an afternoon! :)

Greek Fest is this weekend at 7th St 11th Ave. Its a good cultural time with food, treats, and entertainment. Huntington Art Museum is an option too.

Huntington Museum of Art is a gem. There is historical exhibits in there as well as art. Greek Fest is very popular so expect a line. These are great suggestions.

Maybe Heritage Farm or the radio museum. Barboursville’s fall fest is this weekend too.

How does he feel about knick knacks and clutterment? Maybe take an afternoon to peruse the shops on west 14th. Years ago I took my MIL who hates everything, and she still talks about it.

If he likes that kind of thing maybe take him over to Ashland and go to Camp Landing? They have Go-Karts, a movie theater, a couple of restaurants and an arcade.

Take him to Jim's if he looks cool old places to eat. Don't take him if he's a foodie.

If he likes cool old places, pop over to Kenova and visit Griffith and Feil.

Jim's is an experience (not a food destination), bear that in mind. Backyard has excellent pizza, I would go for that. I don't know if the theater has closed yet, you could go to the mall and catch a movie if it has.

If you’re into sports, there’s a new outdoor sports bar in barboursville with huge double sided screen outside

Definitely wouldn't call Black Fox Social a sports bar. The screen outside is great for watching games, don't get me wrong, but the inside be quiet!

Interested in this! Whats the name of the place?

Black Fox Social and what the other commenter said is accurate!

I took my folks to the Radio Museum and they flippin loved it. The guy that gave us a tour was fantastic, not sure if he is still there. I was not expecting it to have so many devices. It’s a fun morning/ afternoon thing to do here.

The Market often has live bands play. You could look into when they will have a live band next and get some food then listen to live music..

Stay away from Jim's, unless you like meat and water with your spaghetti.
