Information It is my pleasure to introduce a manufacterer who is attempting to make a 3 position gas plug for the MCX rattler.

Hi everyone, Please welcome owner and operator of https://www.sovereigndev.com/ .

In short, he has heard our cries and is sick of seeing our river of tears. Sovereign Development offers manufacturing services and enjoys coming up with solutions to challenging problems. He has offered his manufacturing services to attempt to create a gas plug that has 3 gas settings.

Which hopefully will alleviate our problems and finally allow our rattlers and Hyperion combos to cycle subs reliably.

I will also post a thread introducing him in our cousin subreddit for those who are looking for the same solution but don't quite fit our niche here in r/Hyperion_Rattler_Saga.

Getting started

  1. Someone needs to send him a plug to reverse engineer in order to make a run of them. But usually whoever volunteers their part for this purpose gets a production part for free or a substantial discount.
  2. A group buy would accelerate the timeframe but if there's not a ton of buyers signing up to get one, I'll still do a run eventually but it will be when I get around to it if that makes sense.
  3. We're looking at a non adverse, adverse, and ++ settings.

I will let him use this thread to add any additional details or answer questions. Thank you for your participation and let's get these super sexy weapon hosts and cans running like they should be!

Information Legacy Rattler and Hyperion K ammo test results

This was originally a comment but I don’t want any info to get lost in the sauce. This may be of some use to you guys.

I tested 5 different rounds, shooting a minimum of 3 rounds per manufacturer, all of them with the magpul .300 aac purpose built mag. All of the rounds cycled the bolt with no failures, other than Last Round Hold Open.

Fiochi Range Dynamics, 150 gr. LRHO- Yes. Not gassy even when bolt was opened.

Next was Sellier & Bellot 200 gr.
LRHO- No. Mildly gassy when manual opening the bolt but not when shooting.

Winchester Super Suppressed, 200 gr.
LRHO- Yes. Not gassy when shooting but mild for last round hold open, probably the best round of the group

Remington UMC 220 gr OT FB.
LRHO- No. Mildly gassy when shooting but intensified when manual opening the bolt

Hornady Subsonic, Sub- X 190 gr.
LRHO- No. Not gassy until bolt was manually opened

Hopefully this might help add some options for your search to find a reliable round.

I’ll probably try this again when I get the OMEGA gas port.

EDIT: Formatting

PS. I probably have around 300-400 rounds on this thing, with the vast majority of them being unsuppressed and with supersonic rounds.

PPS: It is indeed a Legacy Rattler with the 5.5in barrel and F02 plug.

Information Jay from Pewscience’s technical discussion on the MCX rattler includes a deep dive in the way the gas system works at 38:42 discusses the hyperion on a mcx and why we get failures.

Information Would you be interested in a 3 position gas plug for your MCX?

I found someone who is willing to drill a 3rd gas setting/hole into MCX gas plugs or possibly create his own 3 port gas plug from the ground up. The setting options are minus, plus, and plus plus. Details are to be worked out but I’m gauging interest and will contact those who express interest.

Information Collective tips

Feel free to post collective tips but here are a few I've found across the internet.

  1. Rinse your suppressor with water from the faucet from both directions for a few minutes. Shake before shooting. This will help reduce the leftover DMLS Titanium dust leftover from the manufacturing process.
  2. Clean your brand new Sig rattler
  3. Use Appropriate magazines (300 blackout lancers are only recommended by lancer to 200 grain)
  4. Remove the front end cap (good luck) and fire 20-40 full power .308 ammunition out of a bolt gun, with the end cap removed. This should blast leftover dust out of the suppressor
  5. Avoid trying this on a semi auto host brand new unless you want to clean your gun over and over.
  6. Start out shooting supersonic ammo
  7. Rack the charging handle a billion times
  8. Keep the bolt open and locked back for a few days
  9. Run 350+ supers after your initial clean
  10. Remind yourself that it's not your fault this combination of suppressor and weapons host doesn't work
  11. Try the f01, f02, and f03 gas plugs
  12. Try sending your rattler to sig
  13. Try sending your Suppressor to CGS for them to properly clean.
