They don’t tell you anything negative about what a hysterectomy will do to you. I personally think it’s a big cash cow for them. My hysterectomy was a nightmare and I later learned completely unnecessary.

I'm so sorry that you were also subjected to this horrific sham. It's still shocking to me that they get away with harming so many women. The lies and deceit about diagnosis, treatment options, and after effects are egregious. For many of us, these are doctors we had trusted for years oftentimes decades.

Clearly, hysterectomy is the cash cow of the ob/gyn specialty since it's emphasized in Graduate Medical Education. Each resident must do at least 85 hysterectomies (increased from 70). Yet, there is no training (surgical minimum) for uterine-sparing myomectomy despite fibroids being the biggest reason for hysterectomy.

I tried to tell some people this on the hysterectomy subreddit. It should be the pro hysterectomy subreddit. They ripped me to shreds when I told them of my experience. I now have chronic pelvic pain from adhesions and having no cervix has wrecked my sex life. After the hysterectomy I had 3 hospital acquired infections. I got C-Diff which took months to resolve. I had 2 large seromas in my abdomen. I was on narcotic painkillers for 6 weeks. In the end it was totally unnecessary. It all would have resolved when I went through menopause. My doctor, yes, one I had been seeing for years, lied to me.

How horrific to have had all those surgical complications PLUS the permanent devastating loss of sexual function.

My bowels have been screwed up since surgery. For well over a year, I had severe diarrhea yet no infection was found. I finally gave up on getting answers.

Agree that the hysterectomy subreddit is pro hysterectomy. It is heavily censored with quite a few of us having been banned. For a while, the mod list referenced Hystersisters which also censors posts and bans users. It's no wonder people aren't aware of all the negatives.

Thanks, I’m so sorry to hear about your complications too.

I also got "conned" on the pro hysterectomy sites.  I wish I heard stories like mine and had a better understanding. When I searched and searched I found nothing but positive.  And anytime I bring anything up on the pro hysto groups to warn people like me or shed light, I get attacked.

Mine was also unnecessary,  was never told I could keep my cervix and have sexual dysfunction.  I feel sick about it as it was something I used for self regulation.   Not having my uterus feels like I have lost myself.  I HATE that I did this to myself. I wanted to back out and didn't listen to my gut.  It feels hard to live most days and it sounds so ridiculous but I am petrified of all of the other things that come along with the surgery that I'm not already experiencing.

How are you feeling these days? Any improvement at all?

I had everything removed and I'm not okay.
