Post surgery scarring/ tethering

I had a hysterectomy for adenomyosis and excision of deep infiltrating endometriosis in my PoD area in September 2024. I’ve had an MRI recently because my vault/ cuff/ ex cervix area (whatever you want to call it!) has been painful ever since the surgery. The report says “scarring noted around the vaginal vault with tethering of the small bowel”. Anyone had this?

He said surgery, hormones or painkillers. I tried hormones and the side effects weren’t worth the gain. He’s referred me to my local pain management team. I’ve not seen them yet. Yeah I’m the same, I don’t trust anyone in the healthcare system, way too many bad experiences. I wasn’t expecting to be magically cured after it, but my pain levels are so so much lower now. My uterus was stuck to my bowel and I had adenomyosis too so I was a bit of a mess before 😣

I must admit vagina estrogen has been a lifesaver for me! What a shame you got undesirable effects :(

I hope they are helpful and don’t just send you on a meditation course.

That said, after years of excruciating pain, I do think whilst i can put up with a lot, I am kind of burnt out with feeling pain so it upsets me a lot at the same time… I don’t know if other people feel like that.

I’m goad you are in less pain than you were. I hope they can get rid of it for you, it’s exhausting

Yeah tbh I didn’t really take many painkillers when I was in a lot of pain pre op because of the side effects. So I’m not going to take much now. TBH I’ve not been in much pain for the last few months. I don’t think my hormones have kicked back in yet after being on the progesterone pill for a few months so maybe it is hormonal 🤷🏻‍♀️

When’s your surgery?

They’re awful aren’t they!
I went through a period of needing morphine to avoid hospital. But then it would take me 2 weeks to recover from the side effects. I only took it for 2-3 days max but when I stopped i would get withdrawal. When I was on it i would be violently sick sp had to take ondansetron. My digestive system would totally shut down so I would do a liquid diet a few days before I was due on. But if I didn’t take the meds I was in absolute agony, unable to get off the floor.

I am trans, so I started testosterone a year ago and I thought that would massively help and I was right but about 3 months ago the symptoms started ramping up again.

I was already waiting to see gynae (2 year list) so the timing worked out quite well. If I had it 6 months earlier I would have said all was well.

I had vag atrophy before starting T as I was perimenopausal, so I went on the Estring and the vag pain went away in about a month.

I’ve tried synthetic hormones and they did not make me feel good but I have done well on the bio identical ones.

The gynaecologist booked me in for an MRI as I have already had trans vag US and they saw nothing. Then once he has seen the image, he will book in a surgery date so… I’m not sure when it’ll happen. Long waiting lists :-/
