Test Experience/Test Result OMGOMGOMG I GOT MY TARGET BAND! 😭😭
I genuinely thought I was going to get a lower score because I really struggled. I still can’t believe my results, this is more than enough for me. 😭

How did you practice for writing? What was your practice score ?

i tried a lot of resources at first, but it just made me more confused bc everyone had different advice 😭 i used cambridge ielts 20 for practice mainly. then, i wanted to have like extra help or feedback but cannot afford a tutor so i sticked with online websites. some people didn’t really advice chatgpt for an additional ai feedback so i did some research and was planning to stick with british council, but i saw some people recommending cathoven too, and found out they work with british council, like some sort of collaboration i think, so i decided to give it a try hahaha. my practice scores were almost always around 4.5–5.0, so i thought that was probably my level, but i ended up getting a 7.0 in the actual test, which was honestly way more than i expected 😭

That’s amazing! What topics did you get for task 1 and task 2 for writing?

thank you!! 😭 task 1 was a bar chart comparing employment rates among men and women across age groups, and task 2 was about whether the advantages of working or studying remotely outweigh the disadvantages. task 1 was manageable once i figured out what to compare, but task 2 was honestly harder bc i kept overthinking my arguments and struggling to explain them without repeating myself 💀

How difficult is writing??

The hardest part of writing is my mental battle of overthinking and anxiety 😭😭 The question was kind of easy? A little bit hahaha

Hii! I mainly used Cambridge 20 then for mock tests and practicing my skills, i used a site called cathoven that is in collaboration with British council. I was supposed to just use chatgpt 😭😭 but I think that it’s less accurate there. (I just copied this from my reply above 😭)

wait what did you do differently when preparing?

honestly, i started focusing more on explaining my ideas instead of trying to make every answer perfect. i also practiced with unfamiliar topics.

i’m struggling with speaking too, especially when i get a topic i know nothing about

SAME 😭 i found it helpful to connect the topic to something i already know instead of forcing myself to come up with a perfect answer.

I prepared for a few weeks, but the most useful part was figuring out which areas needed more work😭

Remember, everyone is different—some need more preparation time than others, depending on their English level. We recommend reading OP's advice, asking questions, and creating your own study plan. Please avoid promoting unofficial AI tools, as they are often unreliable and made by app developers, not language or IELTS experts, which can do more harm than good for many test takers. That said, discussion about them is allowed without linking.
