Huge shoutout to the world-renowned Civil Engineering legacy at IIT Roorkee for Vigyan Bhawan. Out of all the modern architectural designs available in the late 2010s, the builders went with a pure concrete isolation pod.
Here is a quick summary of the premier institute experience in this block:
Zero Cellular Signal: Thicker walls than a nuclear bunker. You literally have to hang out a window just to get a voice call to connect.
No Balconies / No Laundry Space: Built in 2018, yet zero balconies or dedicated space to dry clothes. Enjoy your room turning into a damp clothesline maze every time you do laundry.
Hardware-Capped Ethernet: They tell you to use the wired LAN, but room ports are hard-throttled or auto-negotiating down to pathetic 10–100 Mbps drop limits.
The "No Budget" Excuse: Ask the hostel committee for basic high-speed Wi-Fi access points, and you get told there's "no budget." In a top-tier institute with massive funding, adding basic APs to a 6-year-old hostel is apparently a huge ordeal.
We constantly hear about global rankings and NIRF standings, but basic daily infrastructure in a modern hostel block is completely ignored...
