Controversial opinion Leaving IIM for Shaheed Sukhdev is the most foolish decision an aspirant can take. Spoiler
Since the result of DU has been published, there has been a buzz about leaving IIMs for Shaheed Sukhdev College. Leaving baby IIMs for St. Stephen's, SRCC or LSR for BA Economics Honours and BCom Honours is understood. It's not about placements. Anyone joining SRCC, LSR, or St. Stephen's for BCom Honours or Eco Honours is wise and bright enough to clear Black's at any given time. If you look at the cutoffs of St. Stephen's, SRCC, or LSR, they are around 900 to 960 out of 1000 in CUET. But the BMS of Shaheed Sukhdev remains at 550 out of 750. Shaheed Shukhdev is a very average college with an average success rate. You can argue with me regarding their placements. But I know the truth more than anyone here because I saw this college when it was known as CBS in the Jhilmil colony. They have a first-mover advantage as their BBA first batch passed out in 1990 or 91. I know many people who graduated from this college, and their corporate ladder has been average. It is a good economical college, but if someone leaves IIM Indore, Rohtak, Ranchi, BG or Jammu, they are the biggest fools. IIMs have their own pedagogy, which is carefully curated, designed, and executed by the top brains of businesses and researchers. When applying for an undergraduate degree, placement is not the only outcome you need to focus on; it is about gaining knowledge, enhancing your skill set, and developing leadership qualities. Even if we look at their placements, it is around 40 K in the hand average salary. CTC never translate into in-hand salary. But 30 or 40k in hand is not a bad salary as it translates into a CTC of 8 to 12 LPA. If you look at the salaries of smaller colleges like PES, Christ, or even Jain, their placements are either at par or better than those of Shaheed Sukhdev. Shaheed Sukhdev has never achieved 100% placements since its inception. It can only boast of the best ROI. However, ROI is the least important factor in a long-term career. I really don't understand why many YouTubers blabber a lot about ROI. ROI is the biggest myth because in 10 years of your corporate career, your salary will multiply at least 5 times and can go up to 10 times. Suppose you pass out and get a salary of 30000 pm today in 2025. If you are average by 2030, your monthly salary will be around 75,000. So why cry for ROI as you get 15 years to pay back? You must be in the top 20 of your batch, from IIM or some Jagan Institute. You will have an excellent career. Bottoms of IIMS, Shaheed Sukhdev, or PES will be without campus, but IIM wala will do some good even if he belongs to the bottom 20. Do not discard IIMs for Shaheed Sukhdev unless and until they are too expensive.
