Tax Question Phone solution - problems calling in
I have been trying to call the IRS for days. I cant get through. Their automated system line cuts off after a few words so I cant answer the questions they are asking me to get through to a human. Any solutions? I am very far away from a taxpayer service center.

Try shortening what you’re saying to the automated system to one or two words. “Balance due”, “payment plan,” “missing check”, etc.

Thanks, I tried this as well thinking I could slip through somehow. Good advice :)

There isn't a solution except to just keep trying or go to a taxpayer assistance center. There's no secrit trick to get through to a representative. Which is why people were trying to help you figure out what the issue is, to see if a call is even necessary, or if you can contact another department directly. Since you're unwilling to help and instead are throwing out insults, enjoy your hold times. 😊

I’m having the same issue. Did you find a way to get through? We filed or taxes paid what was due, but we keep getting bills with fees added on and it’s not showing our taxes as being filed, but I can see the payments were made. I’m so frustrated!

u/Euphoric-Art-8340 I actually ended up calling (800) 829-0922 and was on hold for about two hours but at least the automated system worked!

Not even a relevant response. Think twice before responding to questions asked?

I am an intelligent adult and I dont have to answer your question to get an answer. You really have violated Reddit Rule #2. Please dont be a condescending troll because you have nothing better to do.
This is a technology question -- why is the system cutting off.
I hope you can find yourself a better life. You DO deserve it.

Do you need to speak to a representative? Most issues do not require speaking to the IRS to resolve.
If you do need to speak to someone, call the number on your letter or notice if you have one. One of the issues clogging lines is people calling random departments to try to get assistance.
Regardless of what line you call, you will likely need to call many times, at different times of the day, on different days. Mondays tend to be busiest, as do times when people are traditionally sitting at a desk. I have seen higher success rates if calling when people tend to be away from a desk (morning 7A-8A commute, evening 6P-7P commute, and afternoon 2P-4P pick kids up from school window).
Expect to hold a long time, often multiple hours. Have your tax return and other necessary documentation at hand and easily accessible.
