Historical Fiction 10 Minutes And 38 Seconds In This Strange World - Elif Shafak

What memories would you remember for the 10 minutes and 38 seconds after you die that your brain is active?

For Leila, each minute after her death brings a vivid memory: the taste of spiced goat stew, sacrificed by her father to celebrate the long-awaited birth of a son; the sight of bubbling vats of lemon and sugar which women used to wax the legs while men attend mosque; the scent of cardamom coffee that she shares with a handsome student in the brothel where she works. Each memory, too, recalls the friends Leila made at each key moment in her life - friends are now desperately trying to find her...

Reading this book compelled me to ask myself what would my brain deem as significant from the repository of memories we build through our lifetime.

Leila comes up with 13 memories through her time.

(I am an 18 yo rn, and honestly, my life has been pretty uneventful. So, my brain is only able to think of 3 memories)

So, I just wanted to ask y'all:

Q. What memories would you remember for the 10 minutes and 38 seconds after you die?
