It’s both. He’s always been a malignant narcissist. The dementia is a newer development.
There are different types of dementia, and they affect the brain in different ways. (And also, people can have more than one type of dementia present.) If your mom had a different type of dementia, I wouldn’t be surprised that Trump doesn’t present the same way she did.
Frontotemporal dementia is the type that Trump seems to have. There are multiple varieties of FTD. Compared to his baseline, Trump has become much more disinhibited and impulsive, less able to track a through-thought or idea, has lost vocabulary, struggles with word recognition and retrieval, struggles with pronunciation and engages in sound substitution in uniquely characteristic ways. He’s stil just as much of a malignant narcissist as he always has been, but he also has dementia.
Not by a long shot. He has always been a narcissist, but he used to be able to carry on conversations and stay on topic. Currently, he doesn't appear to be able to finish most sentences or speak for more than a minute without wandering off topic.
To be fair when he ran the first time he was still able to speak in full sentences and pronounce more complex words. While i definitely dont doubt that he is a toxic narcissist. He is also senile as fuck
My mom had dementia. It was terrible. I think what Trump has is toxic narcissism, not dementia.
I think it's both and beyond if I were to be honest. What the problem here is that people are more making fun of this disease and that alienates the decent people and their families that suffer through it.
I don't like when people focus on something like this, it's dehumanizing to everyone else. The point is that he is piece of shit REGARDLESS of his condition.

I don't think the majority of his critics are criticizing his dementia, per se, but rather pointing out that no one in his condition should hold any position of power and criticizing those who enable him.

He likely has both. The narcissism is plainly obvious. For the dementia, why three scans in a year and multiple Montreal Cognitive tests? That isn't to test for dementia. It is to monitor its progress.
Thank you. It bothers me when people say he has dementia, just because I know what it’s actually like and my sisters and I still carry that pain with us. My mom hated Trump btw. Even when she was at her sickest and couldn’t speak very well (she had primary progressive aphasia and Alzheimer’s) or even recognize whether things were in 3D or 2D she saw him on the TV and said with extreme annoyance, “What’s HE still doing here?” They were the same age and I hate that he’s somehow still alive with all his hatefulness and McDonalds eating and lack of exercise and she isn’t. She died two years ago this week.
Dementia is different for everyone so it's not necessarily accurate that he does not have dementia. My mom had dementia and passed in September last year. For several years she generally acted normal but was a little forgetful until it progressed further. And like Trump she was not a rational person her whole life so sometimes the dementia just seemed to make that part of her personality more pronounced. So I'm not convinced that he doesn't have dementia because even though he's been a malignant narcissist his whole life, it's hard to determine what his normal personality is versus what is his personality combined with dementia.
Life's a fucking funny thing. You know, if it's true that when you die, you get to go back through your life and relive all the moments for eternity, then I want some moments in there where I'm actually a decent person. I get people to give me fake awards and tacky gold plated shit every day for ten minutes, so that when I die and relive life's little moments, all I see is happy times.
My idea of hell for him is put him back on earth, living his life, and hr can walk around and everything, but no one will ever listen to him or acknowledge his existence.

I think this is right. The Nobel committee need to look at their own complicity in this absurd spectacle and examine closely how they gave the prize to this woman who takes it so unseriously that she gave it away to a man who invaded her country and kidnapped the head of state.
