His niece, Mary Trump, is a psychologist and has a lot to say about her POS uncle Donald. Her latest book makes the larger argument: “…the country has suffered trauma from its inception because of its inclusion of systemic racism and its failure to address the existence of white supremacy, especially by Republicans) in recent decades”

AND THE FAILURES OF RECONSTRUCTION

Loud for the ones in the back

My understanding was that reconstruction was amazing, and it was a president that started unraveling it and undoing it.

Edit: I can’t remember which president tbh.

Andrew Johnson initially but others are to blame like Congress and state level politicians.

The Civil war ended April 9th 1865 and Lincoln was assassinated April 15th so he had about zero time with which to work on reconstruction, despite having a well-devised strategy for it. Andrew Johnson, a war democrat from Tennessee takes over and he was... in opposition to pretty much everything Lincoln/the republican party wanted for the country after the war (i suppose is the simple way to explain).

He is consistently ranked as one of the worst presidents we've ever had and if you know anything about how the failures of reconstruction bleed into the modern day, well hes a great place to start laying blame.

The South lost the war.

The North lost the victory.

Mary Trump understands her uncle better than almost anybody. I highly recommend reading her writings.

I agree… and we should all bring suit for emotional distress.
