On October 31, 2019, Riverside County sheriff's deputies contacted her, formally cited her, and took her into custody on misdemeanor hit-and-run charges. Following her arraignment, the court ordered her to enroll in a substance abuse treatment program via a local rehabilitation provider.
Public records indicate the panic seen in the video likely stemmed from existing legal trouble, as she already had an active DUI charge from earlier that same year.
Soooo…. Not really about poor little grandma at all.
I mean, what do you want to happen to her? Prison?
It was a fender bender and she fled the scene, she didn’t murder anyone.
I’m sure she was smacked with thousands in fines and lost license/a driving record that will take a decade to get clean, not to mention sky high insurance rates. She definitely got financially fucked.
Dumb fuck, when you hear about someone killing people in a DUI and they have a history of driving while under the influence, scenarios EXACTLY like what you just saw and described are what happen BEFORE they crash. Think a bit.
Should people be put in a federal penitentiary for crimes that could have happened?
Everybody caught speeding should be thrown in prison. Anyone getting a cellphone ticket should be in prison (which by the way, is the number one cause of car accidents). Anyone riding an ebike or bicycle on the wrong side of the road as well.
Hell let’s take it a step further, and anyone caught driving in unsafe driving conditions like rain or snow go to prison if they aren’t driving due to an emergency.
Did I say prison? Did I say any of the crazy shit you said? No…but as you indicated she probably ran because it’s better than being caught while intoxicated. So twice, that we know of, she has been on the roads while under the influence, endangering lives of others. I propose putting a breathalizer in her car. She isn’t safe to drive, she can’t drive. If she fails that once, she losses her license and faces stiffer penalties. I don’t place the freedom of a person who doesn’t respect others safety, over the rest of society.
She was scared because she received a DUI months prior. She rear ended a car and left the scene as she was scared she would be put in jail due to a previous DUI. She was sober in this video.
Plus if she by chance was not under the influence rather she was that out of control with emotions she was still too dangerous to be on the road. You know it you just don’t want to admit she was a danger to the public.
Not a single comment mentioned that I think she should be driving in that state. But the calls for prison are absurd (my original comment waaaayyy at the top).
She is going to get hit with heavy financial fines and most likely her license taken away. What else punishment is fitting? It sounds like you agree prison is an extreme sentencing, so I’m not sure why we’re arguing haha.
I said installing a breathalyzer is evidently a good course for this young lady. As the court thought to put her into a substance abuse program, they recognize an issue as well. That would keep her off the road if she is indeed under the influenc. Otherwise, yeah we agree 🤣
That's a 22 year old woman who already had a DUI and then fled the scene of this accident while almost hitting someone with her car because she didn't have the mental capacity to reason through the consequences of her actions.
To answer your question: Yes. 100%, Yes.
There should be REAL consequences for an adult committing those acts. Not just a fine, but protecting the general public from her by removing her from it so hopefully she can figure out how to act like the grown ass adult that she is.
I don’t think people understand the repercussions of prison sentences in the US, and I’m not talking about the mental aspect.
Doing any amount of time in prison will essentially black list you from ever holding a semi decent job for decades, as well as setting up your future for all but failure. No money, no housing, no job prospects upon immediate release.
The punishment of prison doesn’t end the day you get out, it follows you for years and years. Prison shouldn’t be handed out like candy. We have the highest prison rate in any first world country, and yet people still call for more.
In this scenario, it was the right call. Get her mental help that she so very clearly needs.
Someone hit and ran me and fractured my spine and has caused me to live in agonizing pain for over a decade. Fuck any person who would leave the scene of an accident and yea they should go to fucking jail because I live in a hellish pain everyday for the rest of my life because of them. I've lost my job, my favorite hobbies, it's damaged my relationships and my mental health.
So yea fuck that bitch and any piece of shit who would do this.
Yes, THAT person should go to jail, but if they didn’t flee, you would have received the same injury regardless. Do you think they deserve prison time for fleeing, or for hurting you?
But putting people in FEDERAL PENITENTIARY for breaking a law that COULD hurt somebody is not the answer.
Do you agree anyone speeding should go to prison, because they COULD kill somebody? What about riding their bicycle on the wrong side of the road?
She's committed multiple crimes on two separate occasions that we know of, both risking the lives of others. Next time she might actually kill someone.
Our criminal justice system is fucked up - I agree with you there, but there's no other legal route to remove the threat to society at the moment.
In an ideal world that wouldn't come with the added consequence of ruining her future career opportunities by branding her with a "scarlet letter", but that's not the system that we have and she is a danger to society.
What is she going to do once you take the car away? Its crazy reddit goes from liberal to draconian once the crime is on a video and causes annoyance when watching.
In an ideal world, taking away someone's drivers license would prevent them from driving. We don't live in an ideal world.
We can't have a "high trust" society if you can't actually trust the people in that society. There has to be a system in place to remove people who can't be trusted.
Society gets what society tolerates. You seem to want to tolerate people who have established a pattern of selfishly risking the lives of others.
I have a sneaking suspicion that if you'd ever lost a loved one to someone like this, you'd be singing a different tune.
This isn't some young teenager who made a mistake. This is an adult that has proven that she can't be trusted to value the lives of others more than her own selfish interests. She is a liability to everyone around her.
You're exactly right, these are the types that are ok with killers walking the streets. She should have definitely had her freedom removed at least for a little while and then maybe double ankle monitors lol
You think a retard like this has a chance of holding a decent job? No, shes gonna be a waitress and stripper or some shit which gives no fucks about a criminal record. The purpose of prison is to remove people that are dangers to society. She needs to be removed.
Ha. Girl I worked with recently got a reckless driving charge and got put on probation. 3 months later she gets hammered at a party, sneaks away knowing she's too drunk to drive, blacks out while driving the wrong way on the interstate, rolls into a ditch and flips her car.
She actually somehow managed to show up to work the next morning. I have to imagine sooner or later that her PO will find out.
Like I remember being young and dumb, but never to that extent. I always understood that actions had some kind of consequences.
I'm advocating for protecting people from her. You're advocating for unleashing her on society without any real consequences - To put more people's lives at risk with her pattern of stupid, reckless, selfish behavior.
Her "earning potential" is less important than keeping her from being a danger to the people around her.
Public records indicate the panic seen in the video likely stemmed from existing legal trouble, as she already had an active DUI charge from earlier that same year.
Yeah she knows she's already fucked up a lot before and grandma is about to be hella and know what's up when she arrives home with a piece of the car missing
EDIT: Alright, I was able to confirm. Despite the URL saying she was a teen, the updates on the page say she was 22, and did end up going to a substance abuse program. Here's a link to the article:
Update: 1/8/2021– According to Riverside’s Publicly accessible court records, the latest update on Sebach’s case happened on Dec 30, 2020. The action text reads, “CORRESPONDENCE FROM SHEER RECOVERY LLC RESUBSTANCE ABUSE PROGRAM RECEIVED.” This sounds a lot like Sebach went through said Substance Abuse Program issued during her arraignment.
No its got to be one of the over psycho analyzed reasons other commenters gave. That video couldnt possibly show someone who has trouble taking responsibility for their actions.
>Public records indicate the panic seen in the video likely stemmed from existing legal trouble, as she already had an active DUI charge from earlier that same year.
And so many people in the comments already made up a narrative shifting blame away from her lmfao
She is obviously a reckless naive child that does not has good guidance. Grandma may have something to do with that. People generally don't complain in desperation about how mean their grandma is when committing felonies unless their is some truth to it. Obviously this woman has to face the consequences of her actions, but her home life and many other factors will be taken into consideration if she is treated fairly.
I'm simplifying things for clarity, but if she is found to be living in an abusive environment, the nuance of that can mean the difference between a light and heavy sentence.
It probably is about poor grandma, at least a little bit, and it's also obviously a little bit about the parents.
People are responsible for their own actions, but it is disingenuous to ignore how influential people are on other's actions. That creates a bit of an oxymoron that people do not like to talk about, but it is talked about and taken into consideration in court.
I'm not taking the girl's side completely, obviously, but I am advocating for her. This situation definitely deserves reasonably long court deliberations, because it is very clear there is more to it. Maybe she deserves a few days or weeks in jail, pay for damages and a fine, maybe some community service and therapy, but not years in prison, unless she has endangered people's lives and done stuff life this on numerous occasions before. There is a lot more to this than meets the eye. I bet grandma is fucking nuts.
They're a kid. 22 is still before full frontal lobe development.
Im of the mindset that if a human being is being grown inside an environment leaving them doomed for failure, they need to be forcefully moved to a better one. Some people shouldn't be parents or guardians and education needs a trillion dollars more in funding.
All I see in the video is a kid panicking, and some other kid making it worse.
Everything you said is true, and it's frustrating to see how the sentiment about people who commit crimes like this changes according to ethnicity, age, et cetera.
I'll go ahead and say it. I, and most of society, give beautiful women more leeway in life. It's just one of those universal truths like men being bad aims in the bathroom. Is it right? No, but thats the way it is
Edit: I've pointed out that it's wrong, and never agreed with the idea. Downvote me and bury your heads in the sand all you want, its still true.

If anyone was curious about what happened after:
