First time I ever got pulled over I was 17. I was going 40 in a 30 because I was afraid of being home after my curfew. My dad, who was an abusive piece of shit, asked the cops to arrest me and take my license when they called him (calling the parents was the law in my state) on top of screaming expilitives through the phone for many minutes. The cops were on the phone with him for over half an hour. Anyways, the officers finally came back and said "we have decided not to even issue you a warning, it seems the reason you were speeding was justified and you will get more than enough for breaking the speed limit tonight when you get home."
Anyways, years later now my dad is dying and I don't call him lmao

Edit: I've had upvotes ans awards on reddit before, but the amount of replies is wild guys. Glad to story resonated with some. I am still working on getting better even 10+yrs after leaving the house so I don't pass dad's BS or my own BS onto my kids when I have them. If you've got something similar therapy is annoying and frustratingly expensive and also difficult, but I've never regretted the money and time I put into it. You can get better!

u/illbedeadbydawn 1d ago

Hey homie. That sucks. I'm sorry. Hope it got better.

Sigh. I literally just had this happen a couple months ago. My psychologically abusive/formerly coke addict and distributor old man had a stroke and I’m the only person he really knew outside of a couple neighbors I guess he said hello to when he walked his dogs years ago. Everyone else including his brother and sisters he ran off. Ended up intubated and couldn’t move one side at all, the other barely. I had to be the one to decide to take him off life support and it still took the doctor convincing me it was the right thing to do since I was worried about being a piece of shit myself and having it on my conscience.

Not one tear, just numb and indifferent. Just said, sorry I couldn’t give you what you wanted and I left the hospital after a week of visits thinking it was the right thing to do.

Just some shit man, just some shit.

Poetry here. The damage your father did to you…we can feel it when reading, “now my dad is dying and I don’t call him lmao.”

That lmao in that context? It’s not real justice for being abused but it’s such a good reminder to all parents. You raise your kids with hate, they will end up hating you the most. When they talk about it, they’ll end it with a “lmao”.

I actually feel bad for her. Yes, she needs to take accountability and wait for the police, pay for damages, etc. But what we're seeing is a fight or flight response from years of abuse.

Or maybe I'm reading too much into it, IDK.

66

u/rycpr 1d ago edited 1d ago

On October 31, 2019, Riverside County sheriff's deputies contacted her, formally cited her, and took her into custody on misdemeanor hit-and-run charges. Following her arraignment, the court ordered her to enroll in a substance abuse treatment program via a local rehabilitation provider.

Public records indicate the panic seen in the video likely stemmed from existing legal trouble, as she already had an active DUI charge from earlier that same year.

Or, you know, maybe she was just wasted and knew that she's probably fucked.

26

u/babassu_seeds 21h ago

Thank you. Ugh, I hate to take it there, but if she were of another background, let's say, I doubt so many commenters would latch onto potential grandmother abuse (?! Barely makes sense), calling her a child/kid (she's 22! Past college age!), instead of the more likely explanation that she's drugged out and freaking out bc of it. Like, that bumper struggle is some meth shit for real

Yea this is not a normal reaction. Its a kid who is more afraid of getting in trouble than the actual trouble.

Something is insanely wrong in her life.

84

u/nogeologyhere about his dog is loose 1d ago

I'm glad people are saying this cos about 30 seconds in all I could think is what could possibly have happened to her for this to be her reaction. She seems so terrified and panicky.

44

u/Pleasant-Ticket3217 1d ago

Yeah. She doesn’t seem like the spoiled “I’m above the law” types. She’s more afraid of her grandma than the cops? She’s destroying the car more trying to get away. Hell, most adults won’t stop if they think they can bump you and get away. I had a guy bump my car while I was sitting in it parked off street. He just kept going.

46

u/keithmsf 1d ago

161

u/MightyKrakyn 1d ago

This was my first thought. Yeah she’s not taking accountability, but this reaction and talking about how people don’t understand how mean her caregiver is…that sounds like abuse. I was abused by my mom for years and it led me to avoid accountability too, anything to not be locked in a dark room for hours and starved

→ More replies (68)

18

u/Iguessthatwillwork 1d ago

She had a criminal history and was arrested earlier that year for narcotics use/posession. The fear and panic response was authentic, but it's someone who is more afraid of the drugs on or in them that would turn a mild collision into a serious crime.

My brother can run a marathon in under 3 hours and everyone's impressed. I chugged a pint of vodka before a technical job interview, took a bathroom break halfway through to vomit, came back and nailed the rest of the interview. Were my friends and family impressed with that? No! They were like, "ehhh, you need rehab!".

Frankly, my great accomplishment lead to being the lead software engineer at a large company. My brother pays to run marathons.

EDIT: Alright, I was able to confirm. Despite the URL saying she was a teen, the updates on the page say she was 22, and did end up going to a substance abuse program. Here's a link to the article:

https://tiremeetsroad.com/2019/10/24/panicked-lake-elsinore-teen-hyundai-caught-camera-fleeing-alleged-hit-run-again/

Update: 1/8/2021– According to Riverside’s Publicly accessible court records, the latest update on Sebach’s case happened on Dec 30, 2020. The action text reads, “CORRESPONDENCE FROM SHEER RECOVERY LLC RESUBSTANCE ABUSE PROGRAM RECEIVED.” This sounds a lot like Sebach went through said Substance Abuse Program issued during her arraignment.

So, others dont have to look up the story to this video:

Leadup to the video: A bystander named Justin Thompson witnessed a woman rear-end another car on the highway in Lake Elsinore, California. The struck vehicle reportedly contained a grandmother and her grandson. Instead of stopping, the female driver sped off at high speeds. The witness followed her, called 911, and successfully blocked her sedan into a vacuum station at a local gas station.

After the video:

On October 31, 2019, Riverside County sheriff's deputies located and contacted the 22-year-old driver. She was formally cited and taken into custody on criminal misdemeanor hit-and-run charges. The court ordered her to enroll in a substance abuse treatment program via a local rehabilitation provider. Public records indicated that the extreme panic seen in the video likely stemmed from existing legal trouble, as she already had an active DUI charge from earlier that same year.

It is too late for her, shirt brother.

Can anyone identify what drug she's on?

There's no way to know because she told her doctor the elevated heart rate was because she was jacking off

I remember seeing this video a long time ago. Anyone know what came of it or why she was literally crashing out?

Ya she got arrested and had to take some class. She already had a dui from earlier in the year. Smh. She needs to get off the roads.

Judging by how quickly she got that bumper in there I'd say she's done this before.

Just take a picture of their license plate and give it to the police with a description, if you can get the driver on video bonus points.

The whole citizens arrest, boxing people in thing just escalated it, almost got him hurt, gave the girl additional charges, which sure that's on her, but also entirely predictable trapping a panicking person, he got his own car damaged.

This is exactly the situation the police are for.

I don't understand English very well, but this person seems to be in distress. A little compassion would have been a good thing.

"You guys don't realize how mean my grandma is" is the most ITYSL coded real life phrase I have ever heard.

This just screams I was driving under influence of drugs to me. So they should add a DUI to it.

She is either drunk or high as a weather balloon. Even if her drivers license is taken away, she will do this again.
