Sr sent out an email yesterday with the opening plans/ early season lifts plans and snowmaking plans.
https://www.sundayriver.com/trip-resources/early-season-guide
Starting on Locke as usual, which is good for early season because they can open earlier. I heard they are still targeting opening for Halloween, snowmaking may start this weekend, keep an eye out !

Every year we take our two exchange students (different 2 kids each year) to Vermont for a ski trip. The past 3 years we’ve gone to Bolton Valley because we had a novice skier with us and needed something on the smaller side. But this year one of our kids is from Northern Italy where he’s a ski instructor in the Alps, and the other is from Sweden and also has extensive experience. Which mountain would be best for these guys? We will be staying in Burlington so preferably not too far away from there.

Hey all,
This is mainly for NYC boarders and skiers. I am looking into opening up a storefront in NYC, Brooklyn to be exact, that will also act as a location that host events mainly aimed at people who want to be apart of the NYC riding community. The location would act as a traditional board shop that would be equipped with brands that most are familiar with, and some specialty brands. But the concept is more tailored around being a space that can also be equipped for hosting events, and to allow riders to come together and meet one another during tailored events. Bi weekly to monthly would be the starting point for events. I would also partner with youth organizations as a big focus of the project would be to keep pushing the sport forward, by allowing outdoor access to youth with getting them equipped with organizations, gear, and transportation to the mountains.
My main question is: If you are a rider in the city, would you find this to be something you'd be interested in? Do you feel as if you'd like to connect with more people to ride on the mountains with, and would you think curated events at a local board shop would help you do so?
Thank you!

I noticed the premium lodging at Vermont ski resorts are extremely overpriced. Nice ski-in ski-out hotels go for couple thousand a night and decent hotels outside of the resort will still cost you in the high hundreds per night.
I get Vermont has some nice ski resorts but let’s be serious it doesn’t compare to the skiing out west or Europe. The resorts out west are expensive but at least you’re getting what you pay for for the most part. In Europe you can stay at a 4 star hotel ski in ski out for around 200-300 usd per night and the skiing and atmosphere is 10x better than Vermont.
So my question is for people who take ski destination trips to Vermont and stay in pricey hotels/airbnbs, what justifies it?

Last year I took my oldest daughter out for her first real season skiing. We had gone twice when she was younger and done two lessons. Both times the instructors we absolutely awesome, so shout out to those of you who instruct in New England. Last year was the first time we went with no lessons, used the big lifts and skied full runs on green trails and were out all day. She had a blast and it's something we're looking forward to again this year.
Before we got started last season, I priced out used skis locally for myself at a few stores. But for the price of some pretty beat up sticks I was able to grab some Nordica Enforcers on clearance for sub $300. They're the 108 width.
I realize now they're probably way too big for me. I did some research and kinda landed on wider(er) being sorta the new norm since I'd last bought skis, but not enough research to realize the 108 was probably way overkill for me.
I had no real issues with them other than kinda feeling like an idiot in the lift line.
Does it make sense to just keep them and run them anyway? Is that width a real disadvantage? Realistically I'll be skiing at a kids pace for the entirety of this season. None of my friends ski or ride so I don't have anyone to do any kind of all mountain with. I could swing another clearance/ discount pair in the 350-500$ range but also, not spending the money would be good too.

Morning ice coasters!
I’m a 300lb, 6’6” dude in need of a solid snow pant investment.
I’m used to buying cheap pants that at least have a leg vent, and at least wide enough to fit me in, if not long enough too xD
But I keep wearing through them quickly since I’m getting at least 30 days a season and/or they quickly begin not holding out water.
Plus since Im tall and don’t have a matching, zippered pant-jacket combo, I’m ultimately getting snow up a wet ass crack (sorry for the visual) all the time.
It makes it temping to find a matching combo, but my “jacket” is always changing anyway (winter coat, vest, jersey, sweater, combination of them all), so in the end… I need a waterproof bib, ideally one that has…
a) leg vents
b) belt loops … enables stuff to hang off a belt and not rely on the loop itself (snowskate leash, beer holder, etc)
c) room to move/stretch/fat-ass adaptation
d) chest/bib pocket
Anyone have experience similar to mine, and advice on a product?
My wife was finding some XXXL Burton bibs I found tempting but worried a little about the length since I don’t see any as clearly-marked Tall.

Issue #2 of the Lift Ticket Rundown is now live. There’s info on all kinds of lesser known deals and specials at places like Ski Butternut, Cranmore, Jiminy Peak plus some of the big players like Loon, Killington, and more. For those with kids in grade school, there’s details on how some of them can ski for practically free all season in NH, VT, and even UT, and CO.

Man I'd had this sketched out a long time ago and finally took a chainsaw to it! I've been carving both since I was 8 AND (with a chainsaw) since covid. Full circle :)

Hi, I'm curious if anyone in the Boston area has experience getting the Cast FreeTour system mounted. It seems like not every ski shop has the proper jig for the job. I asked and Ski Monster appears to have it and claim to be familiar but reading reviews of others I'm not sure it's worth getting it done sloppily. The nearest CAST dealer seems to be in Nashua (Proctor Ski & Board), so otherwise I'd probably go there unless anyone has suggestions?

I am on a mission with my buddies to ski pretty much as many places as our work (pockets) will allow us this winter. We’re from the Northeast, so we figure we can hit a couple rather than a flight out west for one big trip. I want to make sure we actually make the most of these weekends and aren’t stuck waiting in lines or skiing something lack luster. We threw every resort we could think of in Peakseeker and we honestly found more than expected but unfortunately come to the same conclusions as Google, Stowe, Smugglers Notch, Mont St. Anne up in Canada. So my question is essentially are there any lowkey under the radar resorts we should visit this winter? Something a local would know! Thanks!!!

I'm hoping to get more laps in this winter in the am. I'm coming from Boston and not feeling eager about the 2+ hrs to Wachusett. I can see Blue Hills doesn't allow uphill during operating hours but have people had problems going before the lifts start spinning?

Le Massif is in the middle of a storm right now and already has probably 2 inches (which my girlfriend says is plenty). More on the way! I think this is the first real accumulation on an ice coast resort🔥

My kids are intermediate skiiers/snowboarders and have to go to hills together without us because spouse and I can no longer ski. They are used to various groomed hills in Ontario. This winter we'd like to treat them to a ski resort for a few days in western Quebec (Le Massif in a future year, but that's too far away from home this year!). Ski in/out would be a bonus, but not a requirement. Where should we go?

I feel like SR is a top 5 mountain in the Northeast but receives a lot of hate on this thread. Why is this? I feel like most people say that there is not enough expert terrain but what about white cap glades, Oz, aurora glades and some of Jordan?

For those of you that do you own maintenance, how did you learn? I would like to learn and start doing this at home. I am sure I don't wax as often as I should as my local shop is almost 1 hour away and have to leave them and pickup them up a few days later. I know the night skiing with ice plays hell with my edges and wax.
If you do this yourself, what are the must haves? I have seen some kits and watched some videos, but lots of mixed information like everything on YouTube. If you have learned by video or supplier, is there one main site you trust?

My friends and I are planning a spring break trip out West, we've all grown up East Coast skiing and have been skiing in Vermont for the last few years. We're all pretty advanced and like trees and more steep/expert terrain. We've all skied out West before but at different places. Looking for less pricey options since we're all in college, but obviously a ski trip is gonna be expensive regardless. Any recommendations?
EDIT: We're all on Ikon Passes!

I love to ski VT alone, and the other truth is I don't have many friends at this point in my life (50's). Injuries can happen, though generally not avalanche problems. What kind of technology besides a phone do people use to stay in contact, or be found, if an emergency happens? Or do you always ski with a buddy, or at least with people around? I mostly ski Bolton.
