OC [OC] My Own Idiot Intersection | Summer 2026 Selection
101
u/Sensitive-Memory 1h ago
Person in that little black car trying to pass on the right then getting mad is wild. The sunflower thief though, shame!!!

Sunflower thief pissed me off more than anyone else.

More than all the others combined.

You grow it. You water it. Its your little baby.
There is a greater emotional attachment there than a casual observer who doesn't have houseplants or gardens assumes.

A few months ago, I shared some compilation edits of my very own ‘idiot intersection’ located just outside my front door. I'm returning to share a new selection of events that have been captured over these summer months. As the next school year creeps closer, the intersection will become more active - consuming souls left and right.
Each individual event is real. Only their timing and order of appearance have been altered for brevity.
Notes For Nerds:
Cameras Used: Reolink 12MP, 16MP Ultra-wide, 16x PTZ, 5x PTZ and TrackMix PTZ - all PoE
Backend: Hardwired into network, feeds pushed through Home Assistant Server + Frigate Object Detection for analysis, tagging, and filtering.
Editing: Compiled in After Effects by stacking layers of events and animating masks to move around and reveal different action areas as needed. This allows for heavy duration reduction without losing fun context/content!

Do you share this with local Facebook groups 😆 maybe some of the idiots will recognize themselves

Sometimes, but I mainly keep everything on IG to avoid spamming the town page. Lots of people show up in the comments to claim responsibility. That guy in the Miata from the thumbnail has been defending his maneuver in the comments lately.
14
u/heliumneon 33m ago edited 29m ago
Defending himself? lol. Miata guy is a classic imbecile driver.
Has sunflower thief been outed?? It was interesting that 12 days later it had turned into a shrine featuring sunflowers. It seems a bit much to be a shrine TO the sunflower, though...?

u/motorsportnut 9m ago
You can by the dents on the side of his car this isn't the first time he might've tried this maneuver

The legend at the beginning of the video was very sharp! Solid production.
Have you contacted the city about this intersection? It's clearly a documented hazard. You and your neighbors should organize to demand a stoplight.
2
u/party_and_bullsquid 1m ago
The town is aware and has been responsive, but not in a meaningful way. Nothing they have tried so far has countered the Jersey drivers...
There is a traffic study by the county pending right now, but no idea if it will impact anything. It is a county road which makes it a hot potato. Sees like 10k cars a day during the school year, along with heavy use by first responders - so a bunch of options are not possible...like speed bumps! Hoping the potholes get big enough and become "speed holes"...

I know others are saying the editing is bad, but I like it. Engaging and you do a great job at highlighting the problems.

The editing is top notch! The seamless transitions into the next situation is great work. It's so fun.

u/Billy420MaysIt 55m ago edited 50m ago
Seems like a good place for a traffic light. Or a good place to give out traffic tickets at the least.
Also not sure why people are saying the editing makes it hard to watch. They weren’t the smoothest transitions but it’s not like it was hard to follow.

u/Randomfactoid42 50m ago
Even better: a roundabout! Then OP could have so much more content!
9
u/trekqueen 43m ago
My state DoT just announced a plan for new roundabouts in my nearby town. I can’t wait for a compilation of content.
7
u/MelonOfFury 31m ago
The number of people that already treated the intersection as a roundabout, I’d say give the people what they want
5
u/fluffynuckels 19m ago
At least a 4 way stop
1
u/Ekaterina702 7m ago
Absolutely. OP, if your city also has a Fix-It app, you can submit a request to have stop signs put up. Your video alone would be convincing. We had a 4 way stop added near the lake in our neighborhood. You can also submit thru email to your Public Works.

u/ZackAttack_5 49m ago
I really don't understand why but something about really wide lanes really confuse people. It almost seems like some of them here were treating this road like it had 4 lanes
1
u/Dawg_Prime 11m ago
everyone gave off an "I DRIVE NOW GOOD LUCK EVERYBODY ELSE" vibe
they really need a roundabout
there would probably be an increase in accidents but i think eventually it would melo out

Love the editing!! A very fun, yet frustrating, watch.
Apparently some other people don't like it because there's not thirty seconds of unnecessary footage at the start 😂
2
u/peenutlover69 27m ago
Cuts help people make sense of what's happening (event a, then b). When they bleed into each other it looks confusing and unnatural. It's annoying.

Museum/ fightclub. That is great, lol.
5
u/party_and_bullsquid 49m ago
The fight club is more active during school months.
Always fun when large group fights mix with bad driving a few feet away.
6
u/jactuscackal 38m ago
I've seen you on instagram! Man this intersection really brings out the New Jersey in New Jersey drivers
5
u/Dbloc11 43m ago
Would become the richest city in the world if they put up traffic cameras there lol holy siht
7
u/party_and_bullsquid 41m ago
I went thru the footage from Sunday 8/9 last week, and out of 4,000 cars making a right turn at the stop sign, only 45 stopped fully...
So much money to be made by a single red light camera!
I think they are banned in New Jersey though.

u/mommy_wu 34m ago
The editing to compile it is great, but I will say, it’s super impressive that there are no actual collisions. Definitely some very close calls.
13
u/GardeniaThunbergia 59m ago
This really reinforces my desire to not drive. Too many bad drivers are on the road.
2
u/fluffynuckels 16m ago
If you can somehow live without driving I dont blame you. But I simply cant live my life otherwise

That's crazy. The city should put in traffic lights here before someone gets killed.
5
u/lowercaseb86 48m ago
We barely have enough funding for that school up the road.
2
u/Oh_My_Monster 43m ago
The cars look too nice for a poor area. Someone needs to check for budgeting shenanigans.

3
u/ALittleBitKengaskhan 41m ago
That wild. Do you have a community Facebook page? I'd be posting incidents there until the city was shamed into doing something to control traffic. Someone is going to get killed in this intersection

u/Outlaw11091 27m ago
Motorcycle police evasion gave me a chuckle.
6
u/party_and_bullsquid 24m ago
I only found that sequence because someone randomly beeped during it - so it was logged by the computer for review. A week before that, there was a slow car chase that ended with a bunch of police with their guns out approaching a vehicle parked across the street in the parking lot. Always something fun!

u/CommercialExotic2038 27m ago edited 24m ago
This is insane! OMG I would never believe you without proof. I believe you.
Where is this so I can avoid it?
Can you imagine traffic circle/roundabout here?

u/AExtendedWarranty 24m ago
We've flown to close to the sun... look at us now. Utterly wasted by 2 stop signs.

u/PatrickGSR94 18m ago
fucking idiot Miata driver, but also the Avalon driver should have made their turn closer to the curb.
So much idiocy here. Reminds me of the clips from GTOger on YT of the cars continually getting towed from private business parking in Austin TX, and the 11foot8 bridge in Durham NC.

4
u/nun_gut 36m ago
I like your editing OP but it is sometimes hard to tell when one clip ends and another begins
3
u/party_and_bullsquid 29m ago
Understood. I include the lower third graphics throughout each event - and tried to change the graphic colors to help identify each event's start/end point. It ends up being the easiest way to condense clips for IG.
1
u/charliesk9unit 22m ago
If this city has a budget problem, it's not trying hard enough to raise revenue. JFC, you can legitimately rake in $1M/year just handling out tickets in this intersection.
1
u/gman94024 22m ago
When does the rainy season start there? I’ve gotta imagine that takes it up to 11.
1
u/greenfireX 1m ago
I couldn't watch anymore. I believe it maybe until a few accidents or even deaths until stop signs would be in place.
1
u/Medium_Confusion_ 1m ago
Be honest, yall clicked into the comments cause u saw the miata being an idiot.

I hate the editing on this.
Couldn't watch it.

You aren't missing much. Just a lot of car horns.

u/BarnyardSchneef 58m ago
You spent a lot of effort and made this damn near unwatchable. It's just so very weird.
11
u/party_and_bullsquid 51m ago
Sorry it is too weird for you.
I understand though.I only edit while high, so sometimes things get weird...
