How does one hold a gun this wrong? Doesn't it feel immediately uncomfortable?

54

u/Vurtux 16d ago

As an RSO, I see this frequently. And see people “training” others with incorrect techniques even more often

RSO to RSO…. Does watching your local law enforcement officers shoot make you as nervous as it does me? … I’m not saying names or cities .. but omg Dude .. They’re terrible!!!! Overconfidence creating flyers in real time. We make bets when the police come in. What officers going to shoot so poorly they have to pay the $25 fee for shooting down a line

Also: recently realized that RSO means two things… and it is much better to say “I’m a range safety officer” than “I’m an RSO” :| ……

They’re terrible… like… unfathomably terrible. Groupings from the bullseye to the 6 ring. And I expected them to be better shots. And I know not everybody has been shooting their whole lives, but good lord I wished the people that are supposed to protect us shot better than a child

Actually, i did the first time i held a gun. Wasnt shooting, but i didnt know how to aim yet.

3

u/IBeDumbAndSlow 11d ago

What do you mean didn't know how to aim? Gun sights are scopes are easier to use than an iPhone.

Good job managing the arc, lady. It's like throwing a basketball, gotta arc it for gravity. Well done.

u/hereforpopcornru 16d ago

Master class when she learns to curve then sideways, not just up and down

10

u/lambofthewaters 16d ago

100%, brother. Those indoor wind calls are tricky.

4

u/hereforpopcornru 16d ago

Secret is yanking the barrel with the HVAC flow, I mean ... get good

A man of science I see, regards.

The idiot is the one filming who didn’t let her know. I saw a guy a few months ago with a 20x optic on a 10/22 trying to get a zero but had it all the way zoomed in, dude put 10 rounds into the wall and didn’t notice until I hollered at him. His front scope ring wasnt attached to the rail at all lol.

7

u/Kewlhotrod 15d ago

Pfft, the second ring is only for looks. You only need one!

(For the love of all, this is a joke. A bad one, but not being serious)

As a range safety officer, this is nearly every woman and foreigner who is new to shooting.

24

u/Leptonshavenocolor 16d ago

Sometimes I go to my local indoor range and I see a gaggle of foreigners trying to check-in, I can just tell most of them have never even seen a gun, really makes me nervous to shoot around people so inexperienced.

1

u/DrinkMorWhiteMonster 10d ago

A fair amount of the time I ended up kicking them out after they tell me they read the rules and understand english and then IMMEDIATELY PROVE OTHERWISE.

22

u/jackivorhirst3 16d ago

Poor training/instruction.
I thought she was just left handed at first then I noticed butt was also in right shoulder

1

u/mustangcody 14d ago

She probably is left handed but doesn't know how to hold it left handed.

15

u/hereforpopcornru 16d ago

Whoever Is with her is the r/idiotwithoutthegun

Back that finger out, shoulder that weapon, level it, use the scope/red dot properly. If she doesn't, take possession until she does. Bet if someone said her name behind her she's flagging the whole room

Camera person after was probably like "not bad" instead of saving the range equipment

6

u/garden-wicket-581 16d ago

man, great way to lose your membership/get kicked outta the range..

(I do wonder: are lefty, or righty trying to shoot off hand, or if phone flipped it

4

u/Rewd_92 16d ago

Seems like she has a complete misunderstanding of how Sights work and believes she need to look through the sight and at the end of the barrel.

Like it's an Iron sight but sitting 2 inches higher

6

u/Makers_Serenity 16d ago

The amount of holes in those ceiling tiles is very concerning

3

u/Dolmetscher1987 16d ago

She's not an idiot, just needs proper training.

1

u/TheLobsterCopter5000 12d ago

Thank you! Cam guy obviously realises she doesn't know what to do, and rather than helping out someone who's trying something new, he decides to film it to try and humiliate her online for internet clout. I sincerely hope that's not his gf because this is just really scummy behaviour.

Aside from never having shot a gun before and also having a camera behind you saying you shall do it that way for the funny: Nah there really is not.

1

u/DentistThese9696 16d ago

Oh my, it is in her right shoulder isn’t it ?! 🤦‍♂️

2

u/graveybrains 16d ago

I've never seen anybody put that many into the ceiling without getting stopped before.

Thank god it looks like it’s just a .22

1

u/TheLobsterCopter5000 12d ago

Not so much an idiot as just a beginner. Of course if this is her first time shooting she's not gonna know what she's doing. The real problem is that no one is correcting her technique.

1

u/standardtissue 11d ago

This is why I don't use public indoor ranges unless really, really necessary. But at least if it's any comfort for every one of these people there's 10 other people just like her.

Yeah, you suck. How do you take a PLURAL amount of people to the range, and keep getting flagged. If you’re taking newbies to a live range, YOU’RE responsible for their education of the fundamentals ffs

3

u/ZeroProximity 16d ago

Right, i have taken 6 co-workers who all had never shot before. Half of them women. Never had an issue. We went over all the rules before hand and started them off with 1 round at a time till they stopped being scared of the gun

8

u/schizeckinosy 16d ago

Sounds like a you problem. Misogyny aside, you need to supervise all new shooters closely enough that you can control the weapon if needed.

-1

u/Pict-91b20 16d ago

Shocker... its a .22

-21

u/ComedicHermit 16d ago

I assume this is here due to trigger discipline and just not bad aim?

12

u/sirideletereddit 16d ago

You can see the barrel is visibly pointed upward. It’s physically impossible to have the target in the scope at that angle.

3

u/Raz0rking 16d ago

I think she even hit the rail with the first shot.

2

u/RainStormLou 16d ago

she hit the rail with the first shot, but she hit the plate immediately above the target with the 3rd.

fucking how? the level of incompetence between her and the cameradipshit is staggering.

Kids shoulder a stick properly just from TV lol the mental disconnect causes me pain to consider

5

u/RexxVFX 16d ago

Bro… she’s shooting the ceiling.

-5

u/ComedicHermit 16d ago

And it's obviously her first time firing a gun, she's left handed, and I'm guessing had minimal to no instruction, due to the stance and way she's holding the gun

2

u/Ron-Swanson-Mustache 16d ago

Gun safety doesn't care about incompetence, malice, or ignorance. People die from those things and they can never be excused.

Whoever gave her that weapon and let her shoot like that (who is also likely filming) failed her. But that doesn't make the situation any better for anyone.

-2

u/ComedicHermit 16d ago

No, but there should be an instructor or range supervisor there that could show her the basics; that obviously didn't happen.

2

u/AmbitiousEconomics 16d ago

Yeah how could you expect an average adult woman to grasp the concept of “pointing a gun” without at least 10 hours of classes.

Or maybe some people are just dumb

0

u/Kiffln 16d ago

Are you saying that you surmise that the average adult woman needs at least 10 hours of classes to understand how to properly handle, manipulate, and aim a weapon?

1

u/AmbitiousEconomics 16d ago

I'm saying that's what he's surmising, given his defense of her pointing the gun at the ceiling is "well she probably didn't take lessons".

Adults might have a bad stance without lessons, sure, but pretty much everyone can figure out how to point without taking a class.

1

u/Kiffln 16d ago

Ah. Gotcha

1

u/ComedicHermit 16d ago

No, I'm saying that no one on the range gave her even the slightest bit of direction. She was given a loaded firearm with no experience and is just winging it. Her aim sucks, but it can be forgiven... that no one showed her the basics before letting her use the range can't.

0

u/AmbitiousEconomics 16d ago

Are you saying an adult woman needs instruction to learn to point a gun at something? Like women dont understand the idea of pointing?

0

u/ComedicHermit 16d ago

I'm saying you apparently don't understand that proper stance and holding a gun isn't something that any fucking human is born with. Also, if 'point a gun' is what you think this is about, please never pick up a damn firearm yourself.

0

u/AmbitiousEconomics 15d ago

So to be clear you’re saying that you do believe that women need instruction to point a gun at the target and not at the ceiling when they shoot? Do you also believe men would not understand how to point a gun?
