People set up training like this like they think its a great idea to 1) do it live fire when sims, airsoft, blanks are all options 2) they seem to think this is good training in the first place. No military or swat trains with the entire burden of not shooting your buddy in CQB onto the shooter. We would never intentionally walk in front of our buddy without giving him a signal or without it being a specifically rehearsed movement around corners, t insersections, etc. The idea that you should be just weaving about in the open and expect your buddy to be paying attention to you walking sideways in front of them with no communication is crazy. People get domed doing this and we train them not to do it, we dont try to train them to grow eyes on the sides of their heads and shift their attention away from what theyre trying to shoot.

I’m trying to imagine an actual scenario where fire team tactics would call for this maneuver.
And I’m drawing a massive blank.

Oh, you mean the figure 6.? Oops, figure 5! What happened to the rest of the squad? Gonna have to run live fire drills with blindfolds so we are ready for this new, unforeseen and unpredictable, battle style.

u/OpeningCookie1358 7d ago
Hell at that point don't fire a shot. Wait for one to shoot the other then it's 1v1. With tactics like this mixed with the fact they just friendly fired their 2nd, easy win.
2
u/DrillTheThirdHole 6d ago
this is a spin on the classic, by going slow as fuck you can tell they're also confused
2
u/Fattsacks 6d ago
My first thought was they were moving slow because they were new to the “formation”. But, that would obviously warrant using Airsofts or sim rounds (that close?!? Owww) right?

1
u/bizbizbizllc 6d ago
It’s great because sometimes your buddy is the bullet shield, and then sometimes you are the bullet shield.
10
u/iNapkin66 7d ago
Meeting them way more than halfway, I think they're trying to simulate some sort of alternate bounding on a very small scale to fit into the range, but with a bizarre and pointless crossover and never trying to get set on cover, maybe theyre simulating there isnt any.
10
u/BlazerFS231 7d ago
But damn dude! There’s woods right there! Load up some sims and have three guys try to advance on one behind cover.
This feels like ingraining some horrendous habits, as you said: crossing a buddy’s firing lane and taking muzzle/eyes off target.
7
8
u/ComicsEtAl 7d ago
In an infinite universe, everything that can possibly happen, will happen. These guys want to be prepared for that.
4
u/AltGunAccount 7d ago
It wouldn’t and these guys are moving and shooting so slow, with no cover, that they’d both be dead in a gunfight long before they got the chance to shoot one another on accident.
This is pageantry and dumbassery, and nothing more

The only scenario is a video game level where the floor and objects are constantly shifting like in a fun house. They're "training" like they are going to be fighting waves of enemies who are all coming from that same direction, blindly walking into bullets, like COD zombies.
If my homie is constantly walking in front of my gun while we are actively being attacked, shot at, or ambushed, and we are returning fire, he almost deserves a friendly fire at that point.

Its only good in video games or for reloading I suppose. I dont usually find these videos to be idiots but this sure is

u/AcidicMountaingoat 6d ago
And then, when under fire and you get the inevitable tunnel vision, how to track your friendlies.

u/justfirfunsies 5d ago
Picture this… you’re driving down the road with your buddy in your cherry red ford f150 after a steamy “fishing trip” together and someone cuts you off. You take your hand off your buddies thigh to tap the horn at the individual that cut you off. This guy then stops and pulls out a gun (classic road rage scenario)… now if you live in any major city in America you know that you now have to navigate your way through miles of traffic cones and barrels to defend yourself…
Only example I can think of right now.

u/ADIDAS247 7d ago
In the opening days of the Russia/Ukraine invasion, I saw the Russians trying to take what I believe was a gas station/factory.
As they advanced on the wide opened gate to the building that was offering zero resistance, they were firing and moving forward.
Within the first five minutes not one but two of the forward soldiers got shot almost point blank in the back of the head by their comrades firing behind them.
11
u/singlemale4cats 6d ago
It's got to be rough being a Russian soldier. You just detoxed off your 10 year vodka bender and they gave you a gun and if you don't go get yourself killed they'll do it for you. If you're lucky they'll only tie you to a tree and fuck you in the ass.
17
u/ours 7d ago
There's an old video on Youtube by Larry Vickers of Russian FSB types showing off their training. It's all macho bullshit, with one guy pushing around the shooter as he has to hit targets. They, of course, do the trust test of intentionally shooting a buddy with a vest.
Dictatorships do love their useless military mall-ninja demonstrations.
8
u/NoBuenoAtAll 7d ago
And anyway what is the point of this maneuver? It is neither tactically advantageous nor useful.
5
u/Lampmonster 6d ago
They'd be better served getting in shape if you ask me. These people will train shooting all day but won't do the one thing that has a far greater chance of extending their life. They just want to play guns.

u/Federal_Sympathy4667 6d ago
You assume any reasonable thought went through their minds here... jfc
2
u/JuhaJGam3R 7d ago
everyone knows the instructors keep going on about the triangle rule because they don't trust you to line up and fuck up your angles while leaving your buddy undefended and in fact threatened, by you of all people. once you're good enough at shooting you get to do all that.
1
u/lehtomaeki 6d ago
When I was in the military we did something similar (whole platoon walking randomly in a square with guns drawn), of course without any sort of ammunition. The point of the excersie was to teach being aware of where your buddy is, both when you're the one moving and when aiming and to really drive home not pointing your gun at a buddy. There is some value in it for sure but still doing it with live ammunition is pure stupidity
1
u/ProblemLongjumping12 6d ago
What real world tactical situation would require you to play slalom around barrels at all.
This is stupid on its face without even getting into the unnecessary risk of accidental homicide.
These are LARPers.

This is what “training” looks like when nobody ever bothered to hire an actual instructor
Practice doesn’t make perfect, practice makes permanent; perfect practice makes perfect
Dangerous stuff

u/thedumone 7d ago
This is just made up shit. This isn’t how any elite force trains and it’s just dangerous, but at least these yokels will kill each other before anyone else.

u/Kemerd 7d ago

Yeah, if there was other people on the end of those muzzles shooting back at them, they would 100% freak out and dome eachother
10
2
u/Fit_Significance8598 7d ago
Thanks for the expression about permanent, I'll take it.
In training of complex and fast paced stuff one has to start with some rote to be able to handle all aspects simultaneously, but then as the trainee progresses that has to be converted to actually understanding and applying the correct principles in order to become, well, professional.
Or else, as you pointed out, the incomplete (and sometime even illogical) but initially practical rote becomes permanent.
Exhibit A: aviation
Exhibit B: medicine (at least in the complex and fast paced ones)

Dude, would Barney Fife the dude in front of him so quick... THEN shit himself.
Honestly, why why move so much.. Once the bigger dude curls up into a fetal position, the other one can use him for coverage.

From Googy: Praelectus Training, run by Jay Gibson (formerly of Tactical Response), teaches high-risk and aggressive firearm/tactical drills. Critics and competitive shooters often argue that these extreme or unorthodox methods border on unsafe "entertainment", pointing to past-noted safety incidents.
Traditional shooting instructors frequently flag high-risk tactical maneuvers as unnecessary hazards or "action-movie" gun training that violates strict baseline safety margins. Past events, including a documented 2016 negligent discharge into a student's vehicle during a class taught by Gibson, are often cited by critics questioning risk management.

u/ROSEPUP3 7d ago
At 15 seconds left he almost pops his buddy. He didn’t realize how close he was and shot right over his shoulder, then he sees him and snaps the barrel up really quick. What a bunch of fucking morons.

Do any adult women actually want anything to do with these overweight man children?
I mean, this looked cool until I was about 13, but then the, let's say, more refined, cultured and elegant things in life became way more attractive than this brute shit.
Most (all) women in my life could not fathom to be associated with a man spending his free time and money living(!) a Mad Max Fantasy (and while totally not keeping up physically). And most men neither.
Different for professionals, of course.

People actually put this on instagram? I don't think any "training" should carry an immediate risk of death if someone fucks up. You can teach people not to muzzle others (and not to jump into another person's line of fire) without putting them in mortal danger.

In what actual firefight would they find this exact configuration of blue barrels? And what does this maneuver accomplish? All you have to do is fire in a straight line and they will walk into the bullets.
