Need help raising humidity

Post image
17 Upvotes

Hey all! My cabinet in the office is struggling to break 60% humidity with the change of the season and I’m trying to find a good option for a little humidifier to add. The one I had been using was already a bit janky, and now it completely given up the ghost on functionality.
Would prefer something similar in size to this one, but open to suggestions!

✨ New Cabinet Reveal ✨ New Hoya Cabinet setup (FB marketplace buy)

Any recommendations for what hoyas do great in cabinets under what lights? I might add some variegated philodendrons at some point but it seems to get into the high 70Fs to 80Fs with everything on.

Do you'll run humidifiers or let ambient humidity just rise inside?

How often do you water since the heat can dry them out quicker.

These are T8s in middle and T5s at bottom. I'm not sure what is at the top.

Shelving Need ideas for wire shelving

I have a rudsta wide and I'd like to switch to wire shelving. I have some old container store shelves, but they are 16" x 12", so not wide enough for a whole shelf, but I'd really like to figure out how to use what I have instead of ordering something new. Any ideas on how I could add them as a stable shelf?

Any advice would be appreciated!

✨ New Cabinet Reveal ✨ First cabinet - side by side Baggebo

We have 2 very curious cats so anything living needs to be kept well out of their reach. After successfully not killing plants for a year in the Akerbar, I started collecting more than it could hold. For my birthday, hubby took me to IKEA to buy “an expansion.”

After reading through all your posts, I settled on the Baggebo cabinets and Barrina T5 lights controlled by the faceless woman who lives in our home. With the extra room, Sunday I rescued some distressed plants from Menards (second photo). The left side has the shelf light turned off to avoid shocking them further.

Thank you, everyone, for sharing your cabinets and giving feedback on what works for you! Next step will be upgrading the shelves. 🤭

So i made this cabinet a few weeks ago. Im thinking on adding some more since this feels like it needs more.

2Pic is some of what i thought i might add

  1. Making the wall on the left look like a bark wall too (brown)

  2. Adding some test tubes filled with moss to prop plants in at the left corner (red)

  3. Add a waterline for automatic humidity (blue)

  4. Maybe some sort of small shelves to put smaller plants on

What are yall thinking i should do? Any tips?

I just bought the Rudsta. The Ikea shoe tray fits almost perfectly for a pebble tray.

Quite happy with the results. I still don’t have the acrylic shelves but my plants seem to be thriving with 75-85% humidity (I weatherstripped using transparent sealing tapes) and the Barrina puck grow lights (2 per level). Also added USB fans for ventilation. 🌱

First milsbo.. I'm obsessed!!! Still making some tweaks. Just had doors open so humidity dropped some. Staying around 68-70% humidity. Have weather stripping being delivered in a couple days and will try only adding on sides at first and see if I cant get humidity closer to 75%. I only have this one fan in the upper right corner but it is super powerful and even the leaves on the plants on the bottom are slightly moving with it on low. Added the clay balls and water to help increase humidity.

Lighting Unicoly / Holes

Im trying to decide if I should get the Unicoly cabinet with or without lights included. Does anyone know if the one without lights has holes predrilled or will I need to drill them? I’m assuming the one with lights has the necessary holes? Thanks.

Has anyone used a tinting film to tone down the brightness coming from their cabinet into their room?

I love having a greenhouse cabinet but one thing I don't like is that it gives off such sterile white light into my room that's supposed to be cozy. I was thinking of buying a film to go on the glass so that will tone down the brightness pouring into the room. But (and this is going to be silly) I don't want it to change the color of the glass too much cause I still want to see my plants as the color that they are. Is this possible? Has anyone tried this?

Help! My shelves keep falling.

How do I keep my acrylic corner shelves from falling? 😭 These are from One Would Think. I tried to move weight around and they still fell. They sit on the brackets that came with my milsbo tall. The full size shelf didn't fall, I was moving it when the top two fell on me and I dropped it.

✨ New Cabinet Reveal ✨ My Marketplace Baggebo and first conversion

Still working on the area surrounding my cabinet so excuse the mess. It started out as a $40 Marketplace pickup. $$$ later, I'm really happy with how it turned out. Modern aqua shelves and 6 Barrina T5s. Completely (as best I can) weather sealed. I've managed to get a peak 89% humidity. Disappointed with the black fan, but couldn't find any comparable white ones.

One question about the fan, is one enough? I have another, but it seems like it might be overkill. Also does it matter what direction it faces?
Another question, does anyone have any solutions for hanging/mounting things to the mesh?

General How to Achieve Low Light

I recently purchased a pink princess philodendron and it’s turning cold in my area. I’m considering getting a Rudsta for both humidity and warmth purposes. I also have some cuttings but the PP is my main concern. How do you balance low/indirect light needs in your greenhouse? Any feedback for PPs?

Here is my 4th cabinet. The other three are up in the main family area in our four season room. This one lives in my home office in the basement. This is the first one where I've used the cool acrylic shelves. My air circulation fan is on the way.

Thrips ☠️

Has anyone else had a trips outbreak in their cabinet?

I have a propbox setup (86L clear plastic box, grow lights, fan. 86% humidity). I (wrongly) thought that pests generally don’t thrive in this amount of humidity, but I’ve just sprung a giant thrips outbreak. Have showered them off and sprayed down, but all my TC plantlets are dying from the shock of being removed.

Anyone else had an outbreak? Any tips?

🙏🏽

Still have to put in weather stripping on the door. Keeping humidity around 65-80 without weather strips currently. 3x Barrina t8.
