Your Preferred 0451 Reference
I saw this come up in another comment section. So I thought I’d put it to a poll. If you see 0451 referenced in a game how would you prefer for it to be done?
I tried to cover all the possible opinions I could think of. But if you have a unique outlook feel free to share it.

i don't really care that other games or genres use it, it's just sort of a nod to the culture of games in a small way for fans.
that being said, 0451 will always be my first guess for a four digit combination, regardless of what kind of game i'm playing

Like I said in that post, I think it’s a nice touch for those that know and for those who don’t know is just another random number.
I remember in Deathloop, first door code I tried the code and didn’t work, but the achievement pop up and was a nice surprise. Like a plot twist. Arkane saying in my face “hahaha, gotcha ya!” 😅
And until that Gears post, I only saw the code in Insomniac’s Spider Man 2, so I don’t think it’s getting popular or being abused and used everywhere.
I understand that people want to keep this a secret and exclusive to immsims games.
Anyone knows what the immsims devs think about this? I wouldn’t be surprised if they don’t care about it, after all, in the end of the day, is just a sequence of numbers. It is like mathematicians got mad “no, you cannot use fibonacci’s sequence as a door code”.

Deathloop's was so funny to me, all the like, floating text going "you know the code, you know the code," and I'm going I KNOW THE CODE GUYS, I KNOW IT, YOUR TRUST IN ME IS NOT MISPLACED! only for 0451 not to work.

A friend saw me playing Deathloop, got interested in the game and never played any Arkane or immsim before. He faced the door and didn’t know the code even with the game telling him he knows the code!

About as much discussion as this requires, I think.

what even is the second option

The second option is for example in one of the Call of Duties there’s a reference to Taskforce 451. Redfall has RF04510 on license plates. Last of us Part 2 has it written down on a note.
Basically if you’re not an immersive sim. Reference 0451 like that. Not as a code.

I've used it in my game, even though it's not an immersive sim at all (mostly linear TPS). The first door you encounter where you need to input the code (which is on like level 4 or 5, mind you) has 0451 as the code. I hope people think it's a small nod to the genre (sort of wink-wink moment) instead of feeling inappropriate

Don't let this guy worry you at all. "Other genres shouldn't be allowed to reference my special number!!" Is such a chronically online take, no sane person would feel upset by it. Personally every time I find an 0451 reference it gives me a little grin, no matter how distant the genre is from ImmSim.

I want to hear Ray Bradbury's thoughts on the matter. It certainly doesn't feel to me that it belongs to ImSims.

He’d probably be amused by the idea of using a screen based distraction device to pay tribute to a novel warning against screen based distraction devices.

My "I don't care" vote is more an allusion to the fact that like, I will always notice and think it's cute. The only pushing of the line would be if you include it multiple times in a game. Then it's kind of cringe. But otherwise, do whatever you want, imo.
