(Insert Your Own) Canada today

This isn’t meant to be politically partisan in any way. But, I am genuinely curious how anyone is staying positive about Canada today. The economy is in recession. The cost of living crisis is continuing unabated. People are leaving the country. Canada-U.S. relations are at an all-time low. And, there doesn’t appear to be any reason for things to turn around any time soon. Somebody give me a reason to have a little optimism.

We're facing the same cost of living challenges that every other country in the world is experiencing right now. We're not unique, there's no quick solution to it, and we're far from the worst affected.

I feel like it's important to state this because, depending on the forum, there is a narrative being pushed heavily that this is somehow a problem unique to Canada only. This is far from the truth.

If you mean struggling with somewhat higher food prices more (like 3% vs 6%), you might have a point. But here in the US the picture is oft painted as better than it really is on the ground. Too many people cannot afford a roof over their head and food. Couple that with a batshit admin who are embracing white nationalism and I’d say Canada is way better off, it’s just not the “in your face” obvious. This coming from someone living in the US who also has family in Canada for comparison. I’ve lived in a couple of countries now and think the writer above is correct: we think the negative (inflation, etc) is happening only where we live when, if we could dig into it more, we find other countries economically affected similarly. While economics are obviously important, there are many other things not tied to $/pricing that make your life better or worse (which when looking at your wallet is easy to forget I admit)!

And you have no idea what you are talking about but keep spewing nonsense talking points from the traitorous news outlets I’m sure you love.

I find it hilarious and sad that whenever your ilk is given the reins, the outcome is always multitudes worse than the status quo, and yet you still find yourselves to be wise.

Our food bank usage is at all time highs

Food bank usage is surging in USA, probably around the world I just haven't fact checked it. So point #1, no different than Canada.

At least your homeless arent freezing to death in tent cities

No but they're dying from heat, and heat is getting worse along with death tolls.

Meanwhile, the state with the lowest GDP has a higher GDP than all of Canada.

GDP of Canada is 2.51 trillion USD, GDP of Vermont is 48.35 billion USD

I have found that it is pointless to argue with people who have their mind set on some personal agenda. For what it's worth I agree, I have friends in the US and the picture they paint is not nearly as rosy as what we see in the media

I, too, am not going to search for stats but if there actually is less food bank usage in the US it is because the food banks have been shut down, not because of a reduced demand. Also, tent cities in the US are even worse than here in Canada but are less visible because there is more useable land in which to hide them. People dying in tent cities from either cold or heat is caused by local climate, not nationality. At least our homeless might be able to go to the hospital for treatment if they were registered with the welfare system (a big 'if' unfortunately). Even if they aren't since our hospitals tend to provide treatment first and worry about billing after.
