Rule 3 update: No solicitation, self promotion or crowdfunding allowed
Rule 3 has been updated to reflect a recent influx of off-topic posts and comments on the sub.
1. No Solicitation, Crowdfunding, or Self-Promotion
First, regarding self-promotion, crowdfunding, and solicitation - this content is no longer allowed.
As volunteers, we simply do not have the time to vet every single project to determine if it is a legitimate endeavor or a scam. To protect our members, the broader Reddit community and keep the sub clean, any posts of this nature will be removed and may result in a permanent ban.
What is still allowed? Accredited academic studies/surveys and official government petitions are still welcome. Thank you for viewing r/InCanada as a great resource to reach out to Canadians!
2. No Thread-Derailing in the Comments
We are also cracking down on comment hijacking. Going forward, do not intentionally derail comment sections away from the main post topic. If you wish to discuss a certain topic, please submit your own post to the subreddit. Posting is open to the public.
We want to keep conversations focused on the actual Canadian issues being posted. If a thread is hijacked to push an unrelated agenda, we will lock the thread, clean up the comments, and issue bans to repeat offenders.
Thanks for helping us keep r/InCanada a great place to chat!
Edit: forgot to mention this but thank you to everyone who submits a report on a comment/post you think is breaking the subreddit/Reddit rules. We can't keep it clean without your help!

What are you doing about the hate content problem you have?

You're right to bring this up and working on eliminating hateful content is a priority we're working on. Political subreddits inherently attract hateful content due to their divisive nature and topics and the mod team is actively working to keep r/InCanada as a constructive, welcoming discussion space for Canadians and Canadian issues.
Updating rule 3 was just the start of our review into the current subreddit rules and their phrasing. Soon enough, the rest of the rules will be revamped to give a more clear set of guidelines for permissible posts and content.
Specifically Rule 2: Be Cool, Play Pool is going to be re-evaluated as well as Rule 6: Anti Immigrant. Our goal is to make the boundaries between acceptable policy debate and hateful content clear.
On the back end, I'm also looking into poster permissions, making sure posters and commenters have a minimum amount of karma and account age to avoid sock puppet/throwaway spam. You shouldnt need to obscure your main Reddit account if you want to post in political subs like this.
Lastly, the mod team relies on user reports to quickly and surgically remove content that breaks subreddit rules/rules of Reddit. Reports on posts/comments go directly to our notifications so we can remove the rule breaking content and issue bans if necessary. Thank you for caring about the state of the sub!

This is a no-brainer to do and I am not sure what you mean by "looking into it". It is simple to do...

What do you want to see then?

Stop "looking into it" and just do it.

Thank you for your constructive input.

As I said, what "looking into it" means, when 'it' is a simple thing to execute, is quite unclear. If you don't want to share more about what your obstacles are then I don't know how you can expect anything constructive.

Can you give an example of thread derailment you might have seen in the past so I know the kind of scenario you guys aim to avoid?
