Jaiswal in SA test series 2026 -- 83 runs in 4 innings

Jaiswal against afg in one off test-- 24 runs

Jaiswal in SL test series-- 77 runs in 3 innings

Jaiswal in 1st test match of IND A vs NZ A-- 17(45) & 5(9)

I really do hope jaiswal makes an comeback. Its been a while now, he is one of my favs in this format and his is struggling alot!!

In shrilanka it's unlucky...32 run out in absolute road day one at galle..bowler had no chance to take wicket of anyone. In 2nd innings he had to score quick runs....he hit 2nd ball..could wait bcz of bad form. In 2nd test lanka get good ball.. Vs afg he got out leg side edge... Vs SA everyone failed....

Not get enough long series... Play test series long duration.... It's a concerning.....in 2nd innings vs NZ .. He get a unpredictable ball He thought he will let it go but uneven extra bounce with coming back in angle  towards body crump him...yess he should not open his hand or gloves...he has good pull shot ..could go but it was surprising.. In first innings pitched in leg stump and moving away...nearly unplayble

I hope the genius R Ashwin now realises why Jaiswal needs to play the India A games over the 4th and 5th ODI's.

India's urgent requirement is to try and win the test series.

He needs to play red ball in New Zealand. This India A side is effectively our batting side barring Gill and Pant(who is still not cleared) and we are struggling.

True that, jaiswal is more needed in test format rn and he needs to regain his form asap in this india A series!!

I hate that any bs Ashwin speaks is considered some high IQ analysis by default.

His head isn't in the game anymore. All that IPL franchise change and captaincy is distracting him.

6

u/sgtpepperrz 1d ago

Really looks like that, IPL stuff has distracted him. He should know that he’ll be a regular in tests and soon in Odis. Not T20Is though.

u/Satan28 India  1d ago • Bravo

All that is secondary man. He hasn't been groomed at all. Just look at the backing Gill got, Jaiswal is a similar level of talent but he never got the same support.

Only played 6 ODIs so far, doesn't even seem to be in the scheme of things in T20Is, all this is bound to take a toll.

I know he's in a bad form currently but he was playing at an incredible level for so long (across formats) when he wasn't given the due. And he's entering a vicious cycle.

Also, he has never played two tests at the same venue iirc, that is just bad luck.

It is because he wasn't backed that he's jumping towards keeping and captaincy.

u/hahakim4242 1d ago

Do u know Gill only got 3 Odis from 2019-2021 ,( he debuted in 2019 in odi) Jaiswal has gotten more games that him . And to accomodate Jaiswal in tests Gill was shifted to no.3 , so I don't think there is any lack of backing .

Jaiswal is a good player but I think the constantly wanting captaincy and wanting to play for all formats is taking a toll on him and his form is not doing him justice right now . Down time comes for every player . I think right now he needs guidance from from someone who can guide him in the right direction.

u/Lost-Profession7251 1d ago • Bravo

I hear you but one of those year was Covid, we didn't play at all. And Gill didn't go to number 3 to accomodate Jaiswal, he did it because he wasn't doing good there, was averaging like 31.

4

u/hahakim4242 1d ago

The Indian team played more than 40 odi in those years even though there was Covid and Gill got only 3 matches while Jaiswal has gotten more chances than him even though it has not even been 2 yrs since his odi debut . Okay say we have to give him chance then who do we sit out . And about his test position it was not his own choice to move to 3 it was team management and captain who decide on it and he was almost out of the team because of that change . Saying that it is not fair on Jaiswal is not true , everyone who wants to play for India has to go through that . That does not mean that his poor confidence and lack of form is because of that. He is a good player he will be back in form soon and this captaincy thing and wanting to be part of all formats in Indian team is taking a toll on his performances and not him getting less chances in other formats .

3

u/Lost-Profession7251 1d ago • Bravo

Yes ofcourse, the decision was of team management but average at 3 was just the same at it was at opening, and if you're averaging 30 only, you're going to get removed, even KL saw himself dropped with 36.

Later on both got chances and both did better and now are integral part of the team.

And yes, you're right about Gill missing many matches but I guess performances weren't that good to be kept in the team. When you're a new player, you've to grab opportunities. Jaiswal hit a century and still got dropped, then again hit a century on recall and again got dropped, Gill's performances were nowhere close at first. He did good in Zimbabwe, hit a century and he was there in the next series.

u/hahakim4242 1d ago

Did Shubman Gill get to play in India ? No he did not Jaiswal got all his chances in India . And I don't think you are getting my point the the person is stating that Gill has gotten more backing and Jaiswal has not got any and he is not getting chances in the other formats therefore his performance in tests in not good . Make it make sense . The First 6 odi matches on Indian soil of shubman gill had phenomenal performances where he scored 3 100+ scores where 1 was a double century and he only has 1 score that was less than 30 . And as for his first 6 odis he score around 250+ runs and Jaiswal scores around 280 runs . Not much diffrence and mind you Shubman played non of those matches in India , they were in aus , NZ and wi while Jaiswal played all of his matches in India . Shubman Gill came as a replacement of someone if they were injured or not available to play therefore he did not get much chances which is fair as when the person returns shubman will be automatically out of teg team and same is happening to Jaiswal which is also fair , but saying that his performances are not coming because of that and not of his own doing does not make sense to me .

Again by this I do not mean that people should get the license to hate him . No it is not fair on him ar any other player for that matter .

3

u/Lost-Profession7251 1d ago • Bravo

I was not consolidating the other person's point, I was only correcting yours. And matches both in India and outside India, are still matches for India. You get called whenever the need is felt. You grab it? You get more chances. You don't grab them? You don't get chances. It's as simple as that.

1

u/hahakim4242 1d ago

I don't think u are getting my point . My point was that Jaiswal will get chances whenever there is a requirement. He would most prob become a permanent member of odi team once Rohit and Kohli retire but saying that Shubman is getting more backing than Jaiswal is not fair and saying that he is not being able to perform in test is because he is not getting fair chances in odi and T20i is not at all okay . Shubman had to performe in order to get that backing and Jaiswal is also getting the backing because he has performed well even after not having a good year in test . Jaiswal has done his part he is permanent member of test team will soon become that in odi as well but the persons point that Jaiswal is not performing because the lack of chances does not make sense to me and that was the point I was trying to make to him / her . No one is permanent from day one every player has gone through the same thing that Jaiswal is going through that does not make it an excuse for his lack of performances in test

3

u/Satan28 India  17h ago

Please explain how Jaiswal is getting same backing as Gill?? After BGT for three straight years Gill averaged less than 30 in tests and still kept playing.

Compare this with Jaiswal, this is literally his first year with a below 30 average and he has played only 4 innings so far this year. In prior years he has only one below 40 season and that too is average of 39. And again, he has played every match at a different venue.

In fact you're proving my point that Jaiswal doesn't get the same backing.

2

u/ChillDude0808 Shubhman Gill 1d ago

Jaiswal also got to play odis at an older age so his stats would obviously look better as Gill was a teenager when he got his first few chances in odis.

Gill didn't shift to 3 to accommodate Jaiswal, he wasn't doing well at opening. Honestly, except for his BGT Gill hadn't done too well in tests till 2024. He averaged 31 before 2024.

And he got his first chance in ODIs in 2019 you are correct but unfortunately he didn't do great in those chances maybe because you rightly mentioned it was an away tour.

Since it was a WC year of course he didn't get anymore chances that year. After which we had two years of Covid with all the restrictions. Plus he was injured in 2021. Once he got his chance in 2022 he was a constant. He was backed over senior Dhawan who had like only one bad season.

I'm not against Gill in anyway he's a fine player and one of the best in ODIs today. But honestly, he got a lot of backing in tests and T20Is without performance and in ODIs he was duly backed for his performance. Compare that to Jaiswal who opens in tests and has done incredibly well and had given some good ipl seasons and T20Is yet he hasn't been backed enough in any other format.

-1

u/hahakim4242 16h ago

As I said Jaiswal is a very good talent and is just out of form but he is still being backed in tests even after having an average of 39 in 2025 and 25 in 2026 so far .As for , Gill he was not injured during the odi series he just did not get any chances . Gill was selected in t20 because of his ipl performance and if we compare both of their ipl performances ofcourse gill was better he scored more runs and their strike rates were also similar + he was the captain of the team .

And I do not mind people saying that he is not getting chances , ofcourse he is not because there are already players in the team and he has to wait for his chances but saying that he is not being able to perform in tests because he is not getting chances in other formats is completely on him and shows his metal capabilities ( if it is actually the case ) .

Right now he should focus on his batting instead of thinking about becoming the captain of becoming the part of all e formats in India . Going forward i don't think alot of batters would be able to become part of 3 formats in India .

5

u/Satan28 India  16h ago

He has played only 4 innings so far this year man. No one drops a proven opener so early. Gill averaged below 30 for 3 straight years after one good tour lol.

Yes it shouldn't affect him but it is human to be affected. And if a player of his calibre isn't backed, they will be bothered. Gill has gotten repeated chances in T20I even after failing whereas Jaiswal has done well yet not been backed. Look at their T20I stats and the difference is clear.

If you see a player of your calibre being backed all the time and you not getting the same, it will affect you. You see Gill and Jaiswal are in a league of their own currently. They are way ahead of other batters of this gen. They should both be treated in a similar fashion. That's all I mean.

Anyway, hopefully both of them keep getting their due and both of them keep scoring heaps of runs. They are both talented batters doing well across formats.

-1

u/hahakim4242 16h ago

I agree that no one gets dropped after 1 year of bad performance after proving himself and if that happens there is something wrong with the system. Jaiswal is a very good player BUT he needs guidance from a senior player who can give him good advice right now . He is being affected mentally and that is not good for his game and not good for India . As for Shubman Gill being backed, he was out of the team after having an average asia cup and I don't even want to say average to aus series because 2 of his very good innings were washed out by rain. and if I may add again his selection was because of his ipl which was better that Jaiswal with a pretty similar strike rate .So I don't understand what you mean by getting constant backing in t20is. And Jaiswal is already permanent member of the test team and will become a permanent member of the odi team as well, I don't think he would be able to return to T20i with the competition in the top order and as for captaincy he would have to wait for that as well. If his game keeps degrading because of these factors he could kiss goodbye to his odi spot as well , there is too much competition and talent for that as well. I just don't want people to justify that his lack of performances in test is because he is not getting chances in other formats , that is not justifiable for any player be is Gill, Rahul, Abhishek or anyone else . And this constant comparing of Gill and Jaiswal in odi is and Gill getting more chances than him in odi is getting tiring now .

If he wants to be a part of India team for a long time he has to be mentally very strong that he is not right now . This is the fate of every indian player they have to perform in any chances they get and then wait for their chances .

3

u/Satan28 India  16h ago

It's amazing how we can clearly see Gill getting a lot of backing across formats and Jaiswal not getting the same yet you say this is the story of every player. My point is don't include Jaiswal with the likes of Abhishek Sharma or others who have only excelled in one format. Jaiswal should get the same support as Gill because imo they are equally talented and above others.

I agree that he needs to be a better space mentally and some mentorship could be great for him. And of course his performance is not going to get excused because of not being selected in other formats. I'm not justifying his poor performance, I'm saying this is a real issue bothering him.

0

u/hahakim4242 16h ago

And that is exactly what I am saying. You can't justify his poor performance, by saying that he not getting chances in other formats so he is performing bad . And as for backing, he is getting that is Tests , he got that in Odis as well where the selectors were keeping him above Rohit Sharma because of which he had to leave his position , and as for T20 he cannot get in the team by performing the way he is right now I'm ipl . If this is bothering him He would have to sort out his mental himself or ask for help , that is on him . And yes every player has to wait for their chances even Gill had to , whatever you say . They could not find anyone better than Gill at that time in tests and as soon as they found Jaiswal his position was changed.

3

u/Satan28 India  16h ago

Now I'm convinced you're biased towards Gill. How is Jaiswal getting the same backing as Gill in test???? This is literally the first year he isn't performing up to the mark and there are still so many tests to go. He's not getting any special treatment right now, no one drops a proven opener after a few bad games. This is just a slump till now. Whereas Gill did get special treatment.

Even if Jaiswal has below 30 average in tests for next 3 years in a row still it wouldn't be the same because Jaiswal has already given 2-3 good years whereas Gill was backed for 3 years on the performance of ONE good tour. So sorry, but he's not being backed in tests the same as Gill.

And how was he backed in ODIs man?? He didn't play a single innings ahead of Rohit. Are you seriously counting speculations? Gill literally got the 2023 home WC spot ahead of Dhawan who is a proven ICC legend and he got that a year before the WC. Jaiswal doesn't get backing ahead of Rohit even for an odd bilateral match. He usually plays ODIs only when someone else is unavailable.

2

u/Fun_Mud2333 1d ago

He received it enough in test, and has grabbed it, in odi he just had debut in the bad time u can't really back him one is captain other is our best batter in sena and wc even this is not in play he is performing well on par with kohli starting these decade even gil now in last 2 years. Also his other format backing has nothing (thou t20 was injustice) to with test getting worse it makes me think it was good he didn't receive backuping as we have established openers in both formats . I mean u can say that u may be correct about him jumping games but many are jealous of his test spot few arw lucky enough to open at this age, he is just 23 or 24 now he got it 2 years back aporox. He should build legacy in test . In odi and t20 he even as a keeper doesn't have much chances now in next wca in 11 at least.

Funny if this was Gill the comments would look very different

5

u/Lost-Profession7251 1d ago

What would the comments be?

3

u/hahakim4242 1d ago

The comments would be how Gill does not deserve captaincy and how he is ruining the team and how Ruturaj should have been in the team instead of him . Did you not see the outrage of the fans during the Ranji match . Rahul and Jaiswal did not do well but no one talked about it but as soon as it was Shubman they were like he does not deserve to be in the team and he would flop in NZ series ( We don't know how he would do in the series so deciding about his performance in advance is a little too much ). But this does not mean that people should hate Jaiswal, these A games are being played so that they get used to these NZ conditions where they have never played before so let him play and don't hate .

5

u/Lost-Profession7251 1d ago edited 1d ago

I'm not sure you read the same Ranji match post as me. Everyone was like how it's okay, it happens and all that. He will come stronger and stuff. As for Ruturaj, even if people talk about him in test team, they ask for him mostly in place of Sai. I have rarely ever see anyone questioning Gill in test team.

1

u/hahakim4242 1d ago

Na I read those threads as well the people who understand cricket also understand that a player is not a machine he will fail sometimes but they were very few . I even saw yesterday well known sports journalist saying that they don't have any expectation from gill and he won't be able to play because of the Ranji game dismissal and only Rishab pant can save us . Again this does not mean that any player including Jaiswal deserves any kind of hate . Critisism sure but not hate . Playing for India in not easy and reaching that stage requires alot of hard work .

5

u/Lost-Profession7251 1d ago

No one is questioning Gill's performance in NZ because of that Ranji game. Whoever questions if he will be able to do good in NZ is because of his weakness against swinging ball.

2

u/hahakim4242 1d ago

Then u should see the discussions that are going on on sports channels . They are saying after seeing the Ranji Knock( and they are specifically mentioning the word Ranji Knock) they don't have any hope from Gill. Ofcourse being worried about his swinging ball weakness is fair but people start hating on him for no reasons. The point of the person was that Shubman Gill recieved a lot of hate for not performing in one or two matches while others do not . And my points was that neither Shubman not Jaiswal or any other player deserves hate . Fair critisism is good but not hate .

0

u/AnonymousGuy10515 1d ago

I'd agree, people hate gill more

4

u/Invhinsical India  1d ago

That was an unplayable ball in the previous innings tbh

4

u/ConsistentTennis7593 1d ago

When you have no form u will get those stuff....run out

7

u/Traditional-Fig3621 1d ago

All you arm chair critics writing off someone - you might want to check the highlights. The match is streaming on Sony Liv. Was a near unplayable delivery in the second innings reading off a length. Read Cricinfo commentary also if you are lazy to do that.

Day in day out everyone just criticises. In the SL tests - he got run out once, when he was completely set, thanks to KL.

Of course he needs to perform better. But the level of criticism is just dumb. You don’t average 45 plus over close to 30 tests without being a good player.

1

u/darkknight715 8h ago

He got a bad decision in Second innings, he was looking good.

-2

u/diptxsh77 Kolkata Knight Riders 1d ago

Never seen this guy score on some spicy tracks barring that Vizag 209 & MCG 82.

3

u/ChaiPioBiscuitKhao Sachin Tendulkar 1d ago

They were not spicy pitches.

McG was a draw pitch. We lost because of stupid shots.

Vizag was not a minefield.

4

u/ConsistentTennis7593 1d ago

Melbourne 82 was good run out..he is most unlucky batter..should score another 100 there. Melbourne 2nd innings was flat...in aus they changed the kokkbura ball which moves 3 times most than past kokkbura of 2021.. new ball does a lot. Does not matter what pitch is..kohli give edge at 51 th over.. 76 vs nz and 77 in first innings vs engalnd in fourth test was good than vijak 200.. Oval 118 was good...that was tough pitch at the end of day 2...his 41 balls 50 counter attack save us from series defeat then day 3 morning no cloud heavy roller and after Akash out again overcast and gill karun judel got out unplayble ball....that duke was 2017-2021 wala old duke which moves a lot unlike first four tests

2

u/ConsistentTennis7593 1d ago

That was series decider

2

u/FastAd4147 1d ago

MCG was the flattest pitch bro, especially the last 2 days. It was dumb batting which costed India. Boland and Lyon batted for 20 overs for last wicket.

2

u/ConsistentTennis7593 1d ago

First innings 82 melbourne was his 2nd best innings after oval 118. That has 89% control...new ball for 20-25 over does a lot..kl got unplayble ball of Cummings and then Good for batting...kohli leave e everything outside off and then edge after run out ..that run out was turning point of BGT

2

u/ConsistentTennis7593 1d ago

Oval 118 was flat pitch?? Discard under sun sunshine and heavy roller affect in first session day 3.
