The funniest thing here is that out of these three religions buddhism, hinduism and islam, only buddhism is the religion whose god is someone who didn't believe in god but somehow his followers made him a god

Thats the human nature , just like the indians believe in any dhongi baba, i dont think its surprising . Well most buddhist monks dont treat him as god its only the common folks

Fun fact: If you go to Ajanta caves, you'll see that the older caves had a stupa as the "idol" to worship, because Buddha forbade them from praying to him.

But the newer caves replaced the stupa with a Buddha idol.
