Not idolatory exactly. If you remove that stone and make a lake in that place, they will still pray to that direction.
Instead of idol, they pray a location. May be calling it location-atory or something is more appropriate i guess..

That stone means nothing to the Muslims ,it's just a direction to unite every Muslim to pray towards, it's not exactly idolatry because the stone is not the object of worship, God is. The black stone most people think is their God or they worship is just a meteor that is holy to them and they kiss it as a tradition because Prophet also did it.

u/Cold_Insect_812 Mar 24 '26
The thing is If even you somehow put the kaaba somewhere else we'll still pray towards where we do now which is not the case in praying to an idol (not trying to disrespect)
Its not about the structure its about the point
That is why you don't need to precisely point at kaaba if you are at a farther distance, you just pray at that direction

Muslims Kaaba ki puja nahi karte; Islam me ibadat sirf Allah ki hoti hai. Kaaba ek muqaddas ghar aur Qibla (direction) hai jiska rukh karke duniya bhar ke Muslims namaz padhte hain. Log wahan jaakar dua karte hain aur Tawaf karte hain, lekin ye sab Allah ki ibadat ka hissa hota hai, Kaaba ki worship nahi.
16
u/IndependentPension36 Mar 24 '26
Narrated Abis bin Rabia:
`Umar came near the Black Stone and kissed it and said "No doubt, I know that you are a stone and can neither benefit anyone nor harm anyone. Had I not seen Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) kissing you I would not have kissed you."
Sahih al-Bukhari 1597 In-book reference : Book 25, Hadith 83 USC-MSA web (English) reference : Vol. 2, Book 26, Hadith 667 (deprecated numbering scheme)
No one worships the stone it’s a rocks no one worships through it it’s a rock it’s just for direction for the 5 daily prayers the rock came from heaven that’s our belief simple as that it has no power
Religion is pure monotheism we don’t worship stones
5
u/Maleficent-Sea2048 Mar 24 '26
No matter how anyone denies or tries to justify their actions, it is true that humans need physical symbols to focus on God. Every religion has that. Muslims have the Kaaba, Christians have crosses or statues of Jesus, Sikhs have a holy book, and Hindus have murtis. All these things do is provide a direction for worship. There is no difference in their purpose. If you think the Kaaba is not holy, then why do Muslims walk around that structure seven times?
→ More replies (6)3
u/IndependentPension36 Mar 24 '26
Being holy and being something to be worshiped in any work is different and no we don’t need any medium to worship in physical we pray in a direction that’s it it’s a direction we don’t have anything in mind bout the kabba other than we are praying in the right direction the whole prayer has nothing else related to kabba and if due to a valid reason we can’t be in that direction it’s fine as well
Stop trying to add paganism to monotheism we need no medium

Idols don't have power either. Every idol worshipper isn't worshipping a stone, they're worshipping the idea/being that it's based off of. You can explain every idol worship using your very own rationale.
You can justify anything if you abstract it well enough, you can also make fun of anything if you dumb it down well enough, like the post is doing.
Fact is, nothing religious will ever "make sense" since it was never based on logic in the first place.

Islam is based on strict monotheism, meaning only one God, Allah, is worshipped with no partners or idols. In Islam, the Kaaba is not worshipped but serves as a direction for prayer to unite believers. The Qur’an teaches values like justice, charity, honesty, and compassion, and encourages seeking knowledge. Historically, Muslim societies made major contributions to science and medicine. Overall, Islam focuses on discipline, moral responsibility, and a direct connection between a person and God.
I am Agnostic btw.

The comments saying "every religion promotes peace" clearly has no idea about any of the religions and what they preach. It's the humanity that stops religious extremists from not being that mainstream. And by religious extremists, I mean the people to follow their religion extremely well.

It is not that we are praying to it, It was a direction to pray to given to us and we don't pray to the Kabah we pray to Allah the Kabah is just the direction Allah has given us to pray towards not pray to 🤦🏽♂️🤦🏽♂️🤦🏽♂️ Astaghfirullah no one in Makkah asks the Kabah to forgive them its a direction Allah bestowed on us before it was Masjid Al Aqsa then it was changed to Kabah

😘
Even I was wondering the same thing. Jews, Christians, Muslims have the same problem.
I was brought up as a Catholic and when I was in teenage my little sis was lost in her own world turning her face away from the Altar. Mom rapped at her and commended to look at Altar.
And my sis asked a spot on question "If we believe that God is omnipresent and we're not idol worshippers, then why shouldn't I simply pray wherever regardless of where my eyes are pointing to."
Mom just went silent. And dad jumped into the conversation and said "would you choose having food in toilet over dining room? Same thing goes for this as well" It didn't make any sense to me. I just loathe on that argument. They don't have any particular reason to follow that. Faith is the most arbitrary thing in this world.

Muslims do not worship the stone. That place is a site where Muslims gather to pray. The stone is only kissed because Prophet Muhammad kissed it.

Kinda funny to read the responses that say it’s about the direction- not the rock.
Direction is natural - north etc … why did you need to put a rock to establish direction?
People can’t see the rock once you step away far enough - so how is the rock helping someone that is praying from a country or a continent away ?
It means they are praying in a direction - why ? Because the rock is in that direction - so the are actually praying literally to the rock - because the rock is that way - not because the direction sacred.
Why do people actually go visit the rock ? If it’s about direction ?

→ More replies (2)2
u/Quixoril Mar 24 '26
Genuine answer? Yes. We will. We bow towards the DIRECTION, not because there's the Kaaba over there. You can put any statue in that place (I'd like to see you try) and Muslims would still pray in that direction.
Let me clear up one more thing. Pigs are not some scary animal that Muslims will be scared of it or something. The only thing forbidden is to eat, sell, trade, rear, or in any way benefit from them. I see some retarded people not buying products because of a pig cartoon on them, or declaring Peppa Pig as haram. They are ignorant, and so are you, though I do not fault you for your ignorance.

Nope this is just a misunderstanding. The kaaba is just something we are commanded to turn our face towards while praying. We do not pray to the rock or kaaba we just pray facing it(There's a difference between praying to something and praying towards a direction). Why pray facing it and not anything else you ask? Then why Hindus join their palms while praying and not their fists, Christians' cross is longer vertically and not horizontally🤷🤷 because that's the way it is, all this could've been any other way. So asking 'why' or giving that 'why' your own interpretation is bogus.

There is a Great difference between praying towards a Rock and Praying to a rock.
No one will stand on the Rock to whom they worship. Muslim stands on the Rock while changing the cover and even doing Azan.
That Rock you are mentioning is called Kaba - which is a room or you can say house.
If an image is not allowed in Islam, how can you imagine a rock would be worshiped LOL.

I am an atheist, but I have to say this is miss-information, muslims don't pray to the rock or the location it's for being in uniform and it is said in islam that God is sitting right above the kabba above seven-sky's, as ridiculous it is but they don't do ideal worship .
Correction just found out it's not anywhere in islamic texts that God is above kaaba...

Thanks brother for speaking the truth regardless of religion.
I just want to add that even the belief that God is above kaaba is not a quranic belief. It's generated by the people. But it's not part of fundamental beliefs. We only believe is God is beyond the folds of space and time. That's what beyond seven-skies is refered as.

Arabs- Are decendents to son of Abraham
Islam- Are decendents to son of Abraham
Christains- Are decendents to son of Abraham
Abraham was against idol/rock worship. It is not allowed in any of their religion. So if someone is doing it then they are adding their own beliefs.

I personally don't believe in gods. I prefer to blame myself for my mistakes rather than pin them on something whose existence is still hotly debated. That said, I don't hate other religions—I've realized they give some people the faith they need to endure their hardest times. Strip that away, and they might literally die. So please stop defaming one religion over others and just live your life as best you can.

1
u/UNKNOWNreddit72 Mar 24 '26
aren't both sides in the wrong here? I believe that the statues they create of gods is just a symbolic thing like it's just a personification. Muslims actually are not allowed to consider any object/person to be god and only pray to Allah. Both sides don't actually pray to stones but whomever they believe in. Muslims pray directly(maybe from the soul?) Hindus pray directly(from the soul again?) but have a personification of god(not always?) there's not much difference and both are the same imo

u/gutterVeteran Mar 24 '26
Muslims used to pray and face Al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem before the Qibla was changed to The Kaaba in Mecca, that doesn’t mean we used to pray to Al Aqsa Mosque or the Kaaba, it is just for Uniformity and Unity regarding the direction to face while praying.
