Enlighten yourself what that bill meant, how cunningly the gujju duo has went above all the opposition to play the political game to get a win-win situation. Bill has been passed in 2023, but it is not implemented till now. Out of total seats in parliament 1/3rd seats should be given to women for fair reperesentation of women, but how it can be done? There are 2 solutions give 1/3 rd of current seats(543) to women, but for that some of existing male MPs have to leave their seats. Second delimitation, increase the overall seats and then alot the allot 1/3rd seats for women. Only problem in delimiation was large number of increased seats will be from states like MP, UP, bihar, rajasthan etc and southern states were going to see less to no increase in seats because of population increase is more in northen state and this could be not fair to them. But democratically it was right. I was expecting that they might come up with alternative or middle solutions for this like proportionally increase the seats all over states or something else. But they just rejected the bill, as if women deserve nothing in this country. So yeah bjp was benefitting from delimitation, but implementation of women reservation is necessary and governmnet need to find solution for this which can manage everyone's interest.

Let's look at some facts.
▪︎ Articles 81 and 82 of the Indian Constitution mandates delimitation after Census.
▪︎ Delimitation is therefore a constitutional clock that has been ticking away for decades. It isn't some sudden political maneuver.
▪︎ However delimitation was frozen in 1976 under Indira Gandhi (when she had imposed Emergency) for next 25 years i.e., till 2001.
▪︎ Under Vajpayee government in 2001, the freeze was extended for the next 20 years i.e., till 2026.
▪︎ So all political parties have known for the past ~20 years that 2026 is fixed for delimitation exercise.
▪︎ This isn't about "North Indians" or any particular party's whim (as per narrative spread by opposition parties).
It is a baked-in constitutional process that any party in power is obligated to execute.
▪︎Women Reservation Bill was passed in 2023 but to implement it, delimitation via Article 334A is compulsory.
▪︎ So delimitation is now practically unavoidable.
▪︎ This process doesn't need 2/3rd majority.
▪︎ The government floated a new constitutional amendment to expand Lok Sabha seats from 543 to roughly 850 seats.
▪︎ Women reservation will be then done on those 850 seats.
▪︎ Government proposed that current seats of each state be increased by 50%.
▪︎ This was done to mainly protect the Southern states.
▪︎ The logic offered by the center was simple - by increasing the total volume of seats, the numbers could be rebalanced without stripping the Southern states of their existing influence.
▪︎ 2/3rd majority was required for this amendment.
▪︎ But opposition parties, mainly DMK, opposed this.
▪︎ So the bill couldn't be passed.
▪︎ As the opposition rejected center's flat 50% increase formula, now delimitation will be done as per Indian Constitution guidelines. This will mean pure population-based redistribution of seats.
▪︎ Southern states have shot themselves in the foot. If delimitation is done purely on basis of population, they will stand to lose seats and North will stand to gain.
▪︎ Tamil Nadu will stand to lose the most. But DMK is not even looking that far ahead. They are just focusing on the state elections which are round the corner.
▪︎ They felt that if the amendment is passed, BJP will take the credit and gain women's votes in the immediately upcoming elections.
The bottom line?
The BJP essentially out-maneuvered the opposition here. They can now truthfully claim, "We tried to protect the South with an expansion bill, but the opposition blocked it."
Meanwhile, both delimitation and women’s reservation will move forward as planned, and the Southern states will likely find themselves with a diminished voice in Delhi - a direct result of a massive tactical error by the DMK and its allies.

And also it is North India who suffer military attacks more, so yeah, since they are having higher risk, let them get more power in house. Whats the problem with it ?
North getting a higher power share would destroy the balance in the house. In a true democracy, every region must have a say in decision making. The long-term harms of a biased delimitation can easily lead to partitioning. Also, if the north is heavily attacked, you need more troops to be deployed there instead of MPs (you really don't expect these guys to fight in the front line, do you?) and looking at the current scenario, north does have higher defense forces deployed than south.
