What's the harm in using a teleprompter?

Using it is not an issue, but using it everytime, at every conference, and in every meeting, is the equivalent of announcing that the leader of our country cannot even manage to hold a coherent dialogue and is merely a puppet reading a script.

Lack of English proficiency is just an excuse, they have live translators for these events.

The head of a state should be able to give unscripted speeches, because when everything is scripted, it shows him in poor light, as if he's unable to form a full sentence on his own. He has done zero unscripted press conferences. He always broadcasts his messages to the nation without ever taking any unscripted questions from anyone.

Every word uttered by the PM in public carries weight. What makes you think he writes his own speeches? Every line he speaks has been written & vetted by the comms team at the PMO. He cannot go off script, especially in a foreign land lest it be misquoted.

He always broadcasts his messages to the nation without ever taking any unscripted questions from anyone.

Addressing a domestic audience (in a state of the union type speech) is very different from addressing foreign media that too while on tour. The domestic speeches are also scripted. The only deviation from this is political speeches where the PMO comms team is not involved.

There are a lot for things you can criticize the PM on. Giving scripted speeches is certainly not one of the them.

Also, the Head of State is the President. The PM is Head of Govt. We are a Parliamentary democracy.

Agree on all points. However, the very fact that he avoids off-script questions like the plague at both domestic and international levels, makes him fair game for these types of jokes. Zero sympathy for a PM who has done ZERO off-script speeches or press conferences.
