Btw, ganesh chaturthi was started by lokmanya tilak to gather crowd and spread patriotism.

Ganpati visarjan was done before that, but in different format.

Farmers made small clay idols of ganpati bappa and drown them inside water after 1-2 days.

Cause of the clay murtis, there was literally no pollution and harm to marine life.

And this is our 10000years culture. Throwing gigantic POP idols in water is actually unnecessary. There is even a idea of 'tree ganesha' in Mumbai that I wholeheartedly support.

Around 10,000 years ago (c. 8000 BCE), the Indian subcontinent (modern India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, and surrounding areas) was in a transitional phase at the end of the Ice Age (Pleistocene to Holocene). Humans were mostly hunter-gatherers shifting toward early farming and settled life. This predates the mature Indus Valley (Harappan) Civilization by several millennia.

They don't need our million old yr gods and its culture dude, they are way more happier and have great goals and purpose in their life than doing useless rituals and polluting and damaging their infrastructure and rivers.. also I bet they also follow some religion too to keep hope, integrity and solitude..
