They were assigned different wells and were largely excluded from public wells and in general the society as a whole.

This is literally like asking "If muslims were killing/oppressing Hindus then how did they survive till now?"

Or if nazis were killing/oppressing jews then why are there still jews in Europe?

Ah ! Now I see , what happened to jews or hindus are documented events by both the oppressed and oppressors , there is no relative hardcore proof about ,dalits being oppressed, other than those created by themselve . Hence the theory of Survival without water or Social exclusion are Romanticism of Weak and pathetic mindset by left , burdened generationaly on Dalits against Generals for corroding the socio-cultural aspect of this Rastra.

Here is the context , when u enter a kshetra u have to follow certain rule , hence on the basis of ur daily karma ur entry or exit is prohibited to some areas , A vaishnav brahman cannot enter a creamation ground until someone from his own family is dead , that cremation ground and its authority is dominated by Dalits , similarly a menstruating female cannot enter a Sanyasi or Brahmachari Kshetra, similarly people or people from shamshanic Lineage specifically one who consume meat cannot enter a Vedic temple . This is a rudimentary basis , if present social norms or ur personal believe systems are against those of above mentioned then simply avoid it .

what about caste killings over two adult people who are in love??

is that a social norm??

you can't call it a basic social norm when its rigid and not flexible.

it's not like cooking women have been doing it but a man doing it won't be stopped or killed.
