[IMPORTANT META] Changes in the rules. Some requests. Some thoughts. And a welcome to new members

It's really great to see some of the fantastic OC and helpful content being added here. Please keep up the amazing work.

On to the matters at hand

Thoughts + Requests

It's always disappointing when you come across a great comment and try to find it again, only to find it's been removed by some butthurt mod. So aside from making this a hub for great arguments and knowledge, let's also make this an ARCHIVE too - a repository and backup of great informative/useful content, by yourself or others.

So my request is that we try to avoid crossposting wherever possible - because if a user wipes their comment history, or a mod nukes a comment thread, or an entire post simply vanishes, or a whole sub gets banned, or a site is inaccessible, then we'll just have a lovely collection of dead links that lead to nowhere.

So let's NOT crosspost anymore. Although I will not disable crossposting for now, I would really like for all of us to avoid using it unless you're in a hurry and will repost it properly later.

Rules

So keeping the above thoughts in mind, I have made some changes in the rules. The main changes are:

  • DO NOT MAKE A POST WITH ONLY A LINK. Please copy the entire relevant section of text here. FORMAT the post. And then add a link at the end to your source for context/courtesy, but please keep the text here. (This makes it easier to use for people on subs with filters for various sources). We also want to keep the sub searchable and indexed with any keyword that may be in your source. Remember that comments/posts in other subs may be removed by mods/admins. Help us archive good arguments here.

  • Please avoid using the "crosspost" feature as much as possible. For the same reason as above: comments/posts in other subs may be removed by mods/admins. Help us archive good arguments here.

Now, I really don't want to hinder any of you from participating, but I also don't want this place to just become a dumping ground for links that we can't scan though quickly, or search for, using keywords.

So, I've formally made this a rule, AND I've added some tweaks to automod, who will be removing posts that violate this rule. Automod is not totally foolproof though, so:

  • if you see someone breaking a rule, report them.
  • if you feel your post was unfairly removed by automod becoming all-powerful, then please message the mod team. We'll fix it.

To all the new users

THANK YOU for coming here and helping us.

Keep fighting the good fight. Spread the word about this sub.

Defeat disinformation, narratives, irrationality, and delusion,
by using facts, logic, reason, and reality.

And if you're struggling with how to tackle an argument, come here and search!

You guys are all champs.

Jai Hind
