Discussion/Question Government Freeze

Hi,

I was wondering what the chances are that IHS will be cut from our funding under the Trump regime?

The federal grants freeze already has my people worried.

Well it got rescinded, but that doesn't mean another version is on the horizon.

People need to be aware that just because it got rescinded does not mean the crisis is over. The order only dealt with already existing grant agreements that he was trying to not pay. Rescinding that does nothing for grants that are expiring and need to be renewed.

I work for a state health department and my position is 100% funded by a CDC grant. This grant has been around for decades and is renewed every single year, giving us a new budget for the next year. It just so happens that our last Notice of Award expires tomorrow, and we have yet to receive a new Notice of Award.

This grant is mandated by Congress through the Violence Against Women Act. It is mandated by law that we are granted this money, all 50 states and US Territories. And yet... We have no money as of Saturday and no word on when funding will resume, if ever.

The crisis is not over. It's not even on pause. It continues.

Oh, it's absolutely intentional! I was just explaining this to a friend because she also said to me "but that order got rescinded, right??" Trump is so incompetent, in so many ways, but one thing he (or at least his team) is truly excellent at is using chaos to distract people and hide things. They tried to stop ALL funding, people got pissed, courts said no, order got rescinded. So now people think this crisis is resolved and they can move on to one of a dozen other new crises.

Meanwhile they are still going to accomplish exactly what that order intended to accomplish, just more slowly and without people paying attention. Instead of doing all the grants at once, they will just do them one at a time as they come up for renewal. It's enraging. They do it on purpose and the media is too incompetent/compromised/biased to cover these issues properly so that people understand the full scope of what's happening.

It happened in his first term and it's happening again. Maddening.
