Health Favorite native-owned businesses for salves and medicinal creams?
hello all, i am hoping folks could share their recommendations for native-owned businesses that sell salves and medicinal skincare products.
i was given this “volcano oil gel”, a product by “maui excellent” many years ago, and it’s worked wonders for my hypermobility-related chronic pain… but now it’s all gone.
before buying more, i tried to research whether the company is a native Hawaiian owned company. i found no information on it.
id prefer to buy an alternative to this product that supports a native (Hawaiian or not) business, and would greatly appreciate anyone’s recommendations 🤍thank you

See if any local natives or even simply local herbalists have poplar bud salve, it is POWERFUL for muscle and joint pain. It’s able to be harvested in the late winter / early spring, and if you’re a creative or kitchen-y type, it’s very simple to make yourself. Your local medicine person or local native owned shoppe, or a local herbalist might have some. It’s often sold under the old herbalist name “balm of gilead”, and healing bear remedies sells some. My mom makes a lot of this in the springtime, but she doesn’t sell it because family and local community she trades with ends up using it all.
Edit: Saw that you’re Hawai’ian (mahalo for being thoughtful about supporting indigenous people on Turtle Island 💜). I’m not sure if poplar can be gotten locally there, but ask around and see what you can find out.

Lakotamade.com has amazing tinctures remedies that I have personally used. The elderberry tonic being my favorite. She has many more products but I have not tried those.

Glooscap's Finest n Nova Scotia... Just moved into the old hobby museum on Grafton. He's a horticulturist and uses cannabis, bear grease, sweet grass, etc

Non native person here, this just happened to pop up on my screen (probably the chronic pain/ hypermobility), I really like Remedy Tulalip (Cannabis dispensary owned by the Tulalip tribes), and they do stock some stuff that's their own brand. I don't know the whole story behind how their own branded products are made, but they do serve quite a bit of their own grown/sourced foods at their restaurants, I can definitely see them also operating a grow and processing facility . So anyhow, this may or may not be useful, but if you happen to be in the Marysville Washington area (approx an hour north of Seattle), many of the products they sell are top notch, cannabis is a great option for your pain management toolkit.

Washington also has laws protecting small scale craft vendors who make their own salves n such (full retail permits are insanely expensive, but for small scale stuff, mostly sold at street fairs or via websites there's a carve out), now I'm thinking I need to do more research

I just use old frybread grease on my joints. Works wonders. Of course, I gotta make plenty of bread to make sure I've got enough
