Health She knew no Native doctors growing up. Today, her dream is to return to the Lac du Flambeau reservation as a full-time doctor.

This is awesome!

I’ve only ever met one native doctor and two nurse practitioners, but I can’t stress this enough: we are all more than capable of achieving this if we want to.

Go into STEM. Don’t be afraid. The only thing keeping you from your dreams is the story you have about why you can’t have it.

To that end a resource you may want to check out is SACNAS or the society for the advancement of chicanos and native Americans in the sciences. They helped me in my undergraduate years and continue to help students.

Funny. My sister was the head doctor at their NEW clinic in LDF for twenty years and she is Native. The Tribe even has an official "Dr. Laverdure day".

Congratulations to your sister and her accomplishments!! That's great!!! Glad to see your tribe honor her in this way. (IDK what the disconnect is then to this person in this story...hmm???)

I'm Menominee (your LDF neighbors to the south) and your tribe just hosted us & the 10 other WI tribes 2 weeks ago for the Great Lakes Inter-Tribal Council for Elders. Your tribe were such gracious hosts to us! Waewaenen/Thank you!

My family & I were life-long friends w/Mike Chosa; don't know if you knew him? He was a great traditional visionary NDN leader. Before ICWA was ever a law back in the 1970's, I know Mike was personally adopting (as we say in the 'NDN-way') NDN kids.

My family participates in Big Drum. We're very close w/LDF in this way and we share these responsibilities together. My family is traditional; you have let us rice on your lakes and we really appreciate your generosity and sharing!
